Which are you? I’m a solid 1. By the wonderful Grace Farris.

I’m a 3, thanks to being an avid gardener; let’s leave the hikes out of it ;)
Guys, the scale goes to 10 and the 9s and 10s in my life cannot stop talking about climbing and I’m pretty sure will move into a van sometime soon if they haven’t already.
lol, yes! A 10 on this scale has to live in a van and never shut up about it. A 9 talks about Strava segments like they are part of the physical world.
Omg, I live near the Rockies and I can’t stop laughing about this. The 9s and 10s are openly competing with each other over who has gone longer without showering, and the 10s are in competition with themselves for longest solo backcountry trail run
I’m a 1. Maybe a .5 right now, haha. Like Abby mentioned, I do enjoy looking at nature from my window or even the front porch. (Very much like my cat does!)
I wish I were a 5, but realistically I’m probably a 2. Hmmm, I bet I could graduate to level 3 if I used my power chair more often. I’ll try to use this as a reminder to make deliberate choices and not let the pressure to walk when it’s healthier for me to rest and use a power wheelchair get in the way of being outside.
I’m all of them. Just like most things in life, I am very seasonal. For example I only like to listen to country music in the summer, it feels so right in the summer, windows down, lake days, beach bound, but only in the summer.
When I lived in Hawaii, I was a 4-5 (you had to be, if you wanted to thrive there long term!). Now that I’m in New England, I’m a 1-2, mostly because I’m TERRIFIED of ticks. How do you deal???
Ticks are the actual worst!!! (Life-long New Englander here, though they’ve only really gotten horrible in the last few years). IMO, the key is to wear leggings when you’re hiking with long hiking socks OVER them, and hiking boots. And of course cover yourself in DEET. The more you can stay on dirt trails etc the better, since they tend to be most numerous in long grass.
The good news is that they do need to be latched on for quite a bit to transmit anything (hours) and they don’t burrow in there too quickly, so ALWAYS shower immediately after coming inside from anywhere that might have them, and give yourself a good once-over while in the shower. That way you’ve done a tick check and probably rinsed off any that might be hanging around.
Permethrin! We treat a set of clothes with it every couple of months in tick season! If it’s really hot, we just wear treated knee-socks. It’s been a game changer.
I’m a forest sprite! I have always worked in the woods and feel most like myself when I find twigs in my hair after work.
Yes, same here! My career was a geologist, working for the Bureau of Land Management and the US Forest Service. Good times!!!
I feel like 2-5 are not mutually exclusive… I only use my hiking boots once a year, and have only SUP’d a couple times, but I love camping, love long walks, love exploring and adventuring outside. So I’d say I’m 2-5 except in winter, where I’m solidly cat.
Where I live in Northern California in the summer, I am a #1. When I was living in New Hampshire, I was a 3. Oppressive summer heat has an effect.
I hear you Colleen! I’m in Sacramento, and I’d be a 5 Oct-April, but 1 in the summer. Gimme the peaches, but eaten in my cool house.
A solid 3.5 for me! Princess of the Campfire?
2.5!
I’m a mix of 1 & 2. Definitely enjoy being outdoors in nature (especially Lake Tahoe), but a rustic cabin with no internet is my idea of camping.
Pre-move to Southern California? Solid 3. Post the move to SoCal? Definite 5. Impossible not to be, there’s so much to do outdoors here!
Counterpoint: I live in Southern California and have remained a solid 1! I like reading books on a bench seat by our big window and LOOKING AT outside through the glass. ;)
I used to be a 4, but turning 40 turned me into a 3.
Cannot relate to cats in any shape or form……… until now! :))
Love it!
The pandemic turned me into a Fresh Air Friend from an Indoor Cat!
Hey Joanna and COJ Team,
For some reason every time there is a sponsored post, I’m unable to view it. I wanted to test it on a few posts before I mentioned anything. I know for sure there’s something going on whenever there’s a sponsored post. Can someone please look into it! I feel left out of the party :(
I noticed that too! I’m pretty sure it’s my ad blocker. When I read this blog in incognito mode (no ad blocker), it’s fine. Hope that helps.
Hi S! So sorry for the trouble. If you are comfortable removing your ad blocker that should do the trick!
Ah – that makes sense! Thank you, B and Maureen.
it’s your ad blocker!
Another solid 1 here.
3! The best days are spent outside, but I like access to a real toilet and a bed at night. =)
Yes 100%!
I’m a 2, but like to think I’m a three. I am not.
Ha! Same. Our house is in the woods which gives me a false sense of threeness.
High five! Exactly the same :)
Me too! I told myself that when I moved to Colorado I would become someone who hikes every weekend. I hike maybe five times a year – but whenever I do I make sure to take a lot of photos so I can feel like someone who spends a lot of time outside!
Solid 4.5 here! Only reason I’m not a 5 is that I have an office job!
Same! Maybe we can get some more pieces on Cup of Jo related to the #5 among us…
As the 4.6, my office job is also holding me back from being a 5. Virtual high fiving (pun intended).
aspirational 5, realistic 2 hahaha
Somehow I am simultaneously the indoor cat and the forest sprite. Haha!
Haha yes! Same here. Depending on the day, I’m either a 1, 3, or 5.
Ditto!
I can enjoy my workday walking break as much as my cozy outdoor reading or my off-the-grid backpacking trip!
I laughed hard at this because it absolutely nailed one of my kids who is a 1/2. “Once tried standup paddleboarding” hahaha, omg so true! Too bad she’s stuck with a family of 4/5’s!
“Likes Nature” hahahaha … have totally tried SUP exactly once
I bounce between indoor cat and queen of camping lol! I long for more then the usual walks but then when I’m camping I long to be back home taking leisurely strolls.
Solid 4.6 here but love a good rainstorm excuse to be an indoor cat.
Same! And I love that you went for 4.6, how wonderfully exact!
4 – we are going camping this weekend.
I feel seen by no. 2! I will never stop talking about that one time I went standup paddle boarding
