Our Favorite Sheets (and a Huge Sale)

Have you tried Brooklinen bedding? Because of their softer-than-soft sheets, I have become one of those people who can’t wait to climb into bed at night. Here’s what makes them so great…

Founded on Kickstarter by a husband-and-wife team, Brooklinen is able to offer their beautiful, high-quality sheets at a fair price because they sell directly to customers online. We have this striped duvet cover, which I love for its elegant feel. (The duvet covers also have big buttons and “long” and “short” side labels, which makes changing them so much easier.)

Brooklinen has classic sheets that feel cool and crisp. Or, if you’d prefer, you can try buttery-smooth cotton sheets, airy linen sheets and even heathered cashmere sheets. They are all so comfortable.

They also have super plush, absorbent towels and 100% Turkish cotton waffle robes.

Best of all: Brooklinen is currently having their biggest sale of the year from now through May 5th. All Brooklinen products are 20% off on their site (some third party items are excluded). The promotion is automatically applied at checkout. See everything here, if you’d like. I have this cutie in my cart!

Thoughts? Have you tried Brooklinen? What are your secrets to a comfy bed?

I love our Brooklinen luxe sheets. They look beautiful and luxurious without being precious. Every time I get into bed, I wonder why I stayed up late watching murder shows instead of just hopping in bed early and snuggling up :)

  2. Deanna says...

I switched to Brooklinen’s classic percale sheets 2+ years ago because I was wearing holes in all of my bottom sheets. It was infuriating. I switched because of their lifetime guarantee, but have yet to need to use it because I haven’t yet run into any issues with my Brooklinens! I’ve been supper happy with the crisp, cool feeling and they’ve worn beautifully. Maybe their luxe or linen ones don’t wear as well? Regardless, I’ve had a great experience and recommended them to others many times!

  3. patty says...

I was happy to receive a set of Brooklinen sheets for Christmas. However, the seam on the fitted sheet ripped all the way open after being laundered twice (?!). Customer service sent me a new one right away, no questions.

  4. Candy says...

I love our Brooklinen sheets! They’re soft and beautiful even after two years of weekly washing. I also love the “side” and “top/bottom” tags for making the bed easier. Thanks for letting us know they’re on sale!
Btw, for stubborn stains from makeup, etc., a problem with every sheet brand I’ve used, I’ve had the most success with a stain remover specific for removing oily stains.

  5. Nikki says...

I have a set of Brooklinen sheets that I splurge on when my husband returned from deployment. He spelt in a sleeping bag for 10 months and I wanted to upgrade the feel of our bed for him.

We love them so much we have used them everyday since. (On wash day we wash in the morning and by evening remake the bed). They get softer with every wash. No rips here. We are big fans and saving up for set two!

  6. AnastasiaPhillips says...

I bought a set of sheets in the fall. Bought more a week later was so impressed. Also bought the duvet and down pillows. I won’t look elsewhere for bedding.

  7. Allison says...

I don’t have Brooklinen sheets (I’m really partial to cheap jersey sheets 😂) but absolutely LOVE the gorgeous linen shower curtain I bought from Brooklinen. It’s navy blue and soft and makes our bathroom feel super luxe. I bought it on a whim and couldn’t believe the quality. I was also really impressed with their customer service.

  8. Audrey says...

It’s interesting to me that so many people have had torn sheets. Maybe too harsh of a wash cycle? I wash mine on a normal cycle w/ warm or hot water and I’ve been using Brooklinen sheets for a couple years (I have 2 sets) – no issues! We love them and I plan to buy another set for my guest room with this sale!

  9. E says...

I’m surprised to see so many negative reviews here! I bought Brooklinen’s classic percale sheets in white about 3 years ago and I adore them. A few people have mentioned that they hold stains. This is true! They do. I was using a face oil back then that had a bit of a golden tint to it. I tried bleaching the pillow cases but the stains were permanent. However, I have *never* had sheets feel as amazing or stay fresh/crisp as long as my Brooklinen sheets do. I ordered new pillow cases, changed to an un-tinted face oil, and have stuck with Brooklinen ever since.

  10. Jean says...

Just want to say I appreciate everyone weighing in with their experiences. It IS really hard to buy sheets sight unseen off the internet… they are such an important purchase… what else do you spend 8 (can dream here!) hours in and touches your whole body… everyone is hawking Brooklinen and Boll and Branch right now and I’ve been getting DEEP into reviews knowing how expensive they are. Guess maybe I’ll stick to Target too, and just know I’ll have to replace every year or so even though that’s wasteful : (

  11. Agnes says...

Just here for the comments, and to see what can come out of the most bland posts. Such layered and interesting angles and debates about.. a lady selling sheets. If this was a magazine or newspaper, people would read the recc, buy or not, and as always (since we are adults), buyer beware. No noise or comment. Now it’s ALLLL out there. Honestly, it’s fascinating :)

  12. Maggie says...

Nisolos are a yes for me – I have three pairs of their boots and they wear wonderfully, look amazing and have no break-in period. Love them.
Brooklinen sheets and blankets, however, are a no for me. They’ve worn poorly, don’t wash well, and tear/rip very easily. That said, I have had good luck with their duvet covers which seem to wash well, are super soft and continue to look beautiful even after a few years. So it may depend on the specific items within each brand – I truly believe Joanna’s experiences have been good even if others have had less great experiences along the way. Thanks, Joanna, for all you and your team do!

  13. Erin G says...

I purchased a set of Brooklinen sheets per either your sponsored post or Design Mom’s a couple of years ago. The sheets are now in the garage and used to cover our plants when it freezes. We found the feel of the sheets to be slippery and noisy — like every time I moved my legs, the sound felt like nails on a chalkboard or cardboard. But dang, I’m impressed with Brooklinen’s marketing machine. They got me! Glad to know I’m not the only one who was disappointed (felt duped) in this purchase.

  14. A says...

Their lounge wear is soooooo nice. I don’t have any cotton t-shirts or night dresses nearly as soft as these. I started with one and now have… several ;)

  15. Rhonda says...

I had 2 pillowcases fray immediately and they replaced them. I do have torn sheets now, but decided to not reach out since I feel I spent so much money and learned a lesson. They are nice sheets but if they tear and fray I don’t think they are worth the price. Just my thoughts …

  16. Sarah says...

To those saying their sheets tear easily–they come with a lifetime guarantee so if if you contact Brooklinen’s customer service they’ll send you a new sheet! My fitted sheet tore (after three-ish years of sleeping on them almost every night because they’re my favorite), I contacted customer service and they had me send some pictures and sent me a new sheet.

    • Whitney says...

THIS IS AMAZING. I had no idea and purchased another set since I love them so much.

  17. CS says...

I just checked out this brand a bit. It has fantastic reviews and the website was such a pleasure to browse. I think I might have to treat myself at some point… maybe for the summer holidays. These look like they would be an investment in a wonderful sleep! Thanks for sharing.

  18. Elle says...

I have not loved my Brooklinen sheets, sadly. They don’t wash too well and hold on to stains, whereas my other cheaper sheets do better and are even soften in this regard. I can’t recommend them, especially for the price and even on sale. Very sorry because I was so excited to try them :(.

  19. Paula says...

I have had 3 pairs of duvets which we use every day at home for our kids’ rooms and our room. We wash and put them back in bed. They are great – really great. Super soft, we feel like we can breathe in them and I don’t want to buy anything else now.

  20. Lori says...

I’m always curious as to how often people actually wash their sheets? Growing up, we changed them every week but I haven’t been on that schedule for years. Am I gross?

I remember Oprah years ago saying she changed her sheets every 2 days but then I think she got some flack for that. I

    • kat says...

Not gross! I wondered the same thing – if the folks facing tear issues washed a lot more frequently, or in warm water, etc. I’m proud if we get to a legit twice a month at our house. I do so much kid laundry that the thought of also taking apart the bed is no fun. COVID has upended shower schedules, but I’m def an evening shower person and figured if I sleep clean most nights, that helps, right?

    • Alexis says...

Every other week! I’m the only one who does this so it is a huge chore especially with all the other laundry I have to do.
If it were up to my partner, never/when I threaten no nookie. So you are NOT gross.

    • Hannah says...

No way, you’re not gross! It’s your bed and your sheets so I say wash as often as you feel it’s necessary.

  21. Jessica says...

I tried brooklinen sheets at an Airbnb, and I’m really sad to say they were not at all soft. Very linen-y and cool – but scratchier than cotton. I just was not at all impressed.
I’ve had a similar experience with a Coyuchi blanket – so lovely, not at all soft enough for my preference. When I finally saw the product in a store, I found that *other* blankets had the softness I was looking for, but not the one I bought. But there’s no way to tell with online retailers!
I wish there was a way to get swatches or something for a minimal cost, because I just can’t buy sheets online without knowing.

  22. Heidi says...

I unfortunately have had the same experience of sheets ripping within a few years. I was actually just looking at them this week and thinking of where I should buy my sheets less. I’m disappointed that for the price they didn’t hold up well.

  23. Marisa says...

I started buying Brooklinen towels based on your recommendation, and this year, started splurging on their sheets. I have been so happy with all my purchases – have washed all many times with great results. I have to give an extra shoutout to their customer service. When I bought a king sheet set, I tried to swap with regular pillowcases. They said they couldn’t do that because they come prebundled, so they sent me a regular set for free! Glad to return their generosity with a good review.

  24. jw says...

I normally wouldn’t chime in here but I do want to just back up Mama’s comment above – I had to toss a fitted sheet from Brooklinen just yesterday which had developed a couple of little tears – my husband caught his toe in one and it tore all the way open down the middle, which at least was pretty funny! Anyway, have never had this happen with our good ‘ol Target sheets so I second where Mama is coming from :)

    • Leah says...

Oh dear, I noticed small tears on my fitted sheet from Brooklinen and I blamed my cat!

    • Lauren says...

I got sheets from them during the pandemic and the fitted sheet tore recently too!! I’m SO bummed because they were not cheap…. :-(

    • LL says...

So interesting! I bought Brooklinen sheets two years ago based on recommendations from this site, and they’ve been fantastic. I love how they feel (super soft yet crisp?)! It was a definite upgrade from some of my old Target sheets. However, just a couple of months ago I noticed that our pillowcases had tiny, small holes on the side. They are still totally functional, but it is definitely disappointing! :/ I agree this never happened with my cheap-o sheets from Target! To be fair, though, I haven’t reached out to Brooklinen customer service about the issue.

    • Anne says...

Email them! I had a fitted sheet tear from aggressive bed making, and they replaced the sheet, (nearly) no questions asked! (I had to send them a picture of the rip, “for their R&D dept”.)

    • Elle says...

I’m not a fan either, sadly. They hold stains, don’t wash well, and are not as comfortable as my cheap sheets.

  25. Tym says...

I have their classic percale sheets which feel nice.
I feel like I’m the only one who still goes with a “layered” bed – sheets, blanket, bedspread/thin quilt, extra blanket if it’s really cold. I start off cold but have to peel off the layers (and put them back on) during the night as the hormones do their dance through my system. A comforter with duvet cover doesn’t leave enough options. Truly hate hotel bedding since most went to duvets. Anyone else?

    • Amy says...

If my husband didn’t completely dismantle the bed/sheets at night I would do this. After getting ticked off too many times I just went to a duvet, no sheet. I hate it though. Makes straightening up the bed easier though.

    • Genevieve says...

      Me too :D
We are indeed a rare breed. When I was dating, I think men were genuinely taken aback by it haha, I could so see them debriefing friends like “I’m seeing this girl she’s great but has such a weird grandma sheet set up?!”
Including my boyfriend but luckily I totally converted him by the time we moved in together.

    • Angela says...

OMG! Yes to the “grandma sheet setup!!” It drives my husband crazy, but it is my thing, has always been my thing, so… I like a nicely made bed. And I am the one that makes the bed, so really the complaining is just posturing.

    • shannon says...

You are not alone!! I prefer a top sheet, lightweight cotton blanket, heavier blanket (just in the winter), then a duvet. We bought a different size bed and I haven’t repurchased the lightweight blanket, but I miss it! My husband used to think it was nuts but now he enjoys choosing which layer he wants to sleep between.

  26. CG says...

I want to try these…our 20-year old sheets are fraying like crazy…but I don’t like any of their patterns or colors and I don’t want white! How about some tiny prints or gentler stripes?!

  27. Sharon says...

I have been tempted many times, but I am hooked on Boll and Branch!

  28. Hannah says...

I am a *frugal* person, but when Target stopped selling my favorite sheets (Why, Target, why?!), I gave the Brooklinen percale sheets a chance. I like that you can just buy a fitted sheet (we don’t use a top sheet), and I love the sheets. Worth every penny.

  29. I love their linen sheets. So comfy. Seriously a game-changer for me and my bedtime!
    Worth the price.

  30. MAMA says...

Unfortunately, Brooklinen sheets don’t hold up. Yes, they are marketed so well, have a great customer service rep and give all sorts of stickers and stuff with their sheets BUT and it is a BIIG BUT – they don’t hold up after wash even if you wash them on the gentlest cycle and air-dry.
Sorry COJ – after Nisolo (lots of biting and then falling apart) and Brooklinen and some really poor quality but super expensive Madewell fiascos, I cannot believe the hype. I fell hook, line and sinker into all these ad campaigns from your blog and nice writing and the personalization but was disappointed each time. It must be one thing to be provided free of cost items for marketing purposes but spending hard earned money on these items (out of trust based on your recommendations) and then learning a cruel lesson is a very hard pill to swallow.

    • Joanna Goddard says...

Thank you so much for your note! We are always grateful for any feedback, whether positive or negative. To share our sponsor process: We turn down many potential sponsors every month and choose instead to only work with the brands that we love and use ourselves. (That’s why we recommend a handful of select brands over and over for years, instead of featuring different brands every week.) We have Brooklinen sheets, pillows and duvets on the beds in our home, and they’ve lasted beautifully for years. I’m so sorry to hear that your bedding didn’t work out, and I apologize for that disappointing experience. I’m going to email you separately to speak further, but please know that we believe in the brands that we work with and would never want to lead anyone astray. We love our readers and this community and are honored by the trust you place in us and our recommendations. Thank you so much.

    • Julie says...

      Hi Mama–

I would agree that Brooklinen does not hold up. Our sheets ripped within a year. Bought some decent Costco ones that have held up great.

I don’t mind the sponsor content, but definitely don’t love Brooklinen.

      Happy other people do!

      Thanks,
      Julie

    • Nicole says...

Totally agree! I bought a set a few years ago, which developed random tears in them- super disappointed for the price. They sent me a new pair for free, which developed holes in about two months(!!!). I give up. I have no name sheets from Marshall’s that have lasted 15 years.

I will say their customer service is very good, though they told me they recommend replacing sheets every 2 years. I mean….come on. Don’t blame CoJ at all, but it was a lesson in not falling for good marketing.

    • Ashley says...

Thanks for saying this Mama. I’ve fallen for a lot of cup of jo brands too: Nisolo (the worst shoes I’ve ever bought, and awful customer service), Madewell clothes that fall apart, and a super overpriced Clare V purse. I’m kind of realizing a lot of these internet brands that influencers promote are way too expensive for what you get.

    • Leah says...

We had the same experience! Loved the look of the sheets, loved the feel of the sheets, but our cotton percale duvet cover easily ripped after about 6 months of wear.

We’re hard on our sheets – like use them every day, restless sleepers, wash regularly – so I wasn’t so upset with one rip. But I do wonder, if we’d bought the linen instead, would they have held up a little more?

I would definitely buy the sheets again, and I wouldn’t say the rip has soured me off Brooklinen at all, but in our experience, the sheets are much more delicate than the whatever we got at Marshall’s, if also much more silky and breathable.

    • Lauren says...

Couldn’t agree more! I spent an arm and a leg on Brooklinen sheets this summer and the fitted sheet ripped after a few washes. I was SO disappointed because this was such a splurge for me. Honestly, my Target sheets that I’v had for years have held up better than these Brooklinen sheets.

    • Val says...

My fitted sheet tore after 2 years. So I got a little bit of life out of it but not as much as I had hoped.

I like to see the wirecutter reviews before buying something.

    • Liz says...

Just to comment on Nisolos – I’ve purchased 5 pairs of shoes/boots after learning about the brand on this blog and have had incredible experiences with them! The only items I’ve replaced were the huaraches after 3 years of aggressive use, but was glad to get a fresh pair. The boots are extremely durable and have lasted beautifully through several Boston winters. They are also the perfect pointy/round toe that isn’t too much in either direction.

    • Ashley says...

Oof, Nisolos! I was so excited about them because it’s so hard to find ethical shoe brands and I hemmed and hawed over them for months, but YIKES were those a waste of money. So uncomfortable (even after a break-in period), and NO lasting power, even after I paid a cobbler to put extra soles on them!

    • Louisa says...

Echoing earlier comment about Nisolos! It was a huge splurge for me and I have worn them nonstop and love them.

    • Emily says...

Just want to say that everyone has a different experience with products! Look at the reviews on any website – some people love the product and give a 5 star review and some hate it and give it a 1. That’s a totally normal thing! It stinks when you expect something to meet all of your expectations and it doesn’t, but it’s just that – a recommendation based on their own experience. No one is trying to be cruel or misleading.

    • Amy says...

I can’t speak to Brooklinen, but I have several pairs of the Nisolo Serena (I think is the name?) sandals that I’ve had and worn for years- they are extremely comfortable and they’ve worn well. I did get a pair of flats from them that I did not love but I also did not follow up to return them, so that’s on me. :)

  31. Betsy says...

Love Brooklinen. I am a classic percale kind of girl. I have the white sheet set, and have had them for a year. I’m very happy with them. I have the percale duvet cover in the window pane pattern with 2 window pane pillow cases. Everything has washed beautifully, and looks great. I almost bought the same striped duvet cover, but was afraid of how it would wash. Concerned with fading. Has it retained its color well? I don’t think you have the percale version, so they may not wash the same. Thanks for your input, Joanna.

    • Joanna Goddard says...

We have the striped duvet cover and it has lasted super well. I love how it looks.

    • Melissa says...

I also have the striped duvet. It has lasted several years (lots of washings) and still looks great!

  32. Allie says...

I love Brooklinen too! But they’ve got to be more than two years old at this point, right? I feel like you’ve been talking them up for longer!

  33. T says...

I love Brooklinen sheets and have had a few sets. Haven’t they been around a lot longer that two years? Not that this is so important, but I feel like I bought my first set from them at least four years ago…

    • Joanna Goddard says...

Oh yes you’re right! Fixing now!

  34. Maryn says...

I just have to say—these photos are stunning! Nice work, CoJ!

  35. Tyler says...

I loved their twill sheets but they stopped selling them :(
