Let’s Find This Reader a Wedding Dress!

simple wedding dresses

Ladies, one of our own is searching for a simple wedding dress, but she’s stumped…

Q. “I’m eloping next year, and I cannot find a dress for the life of me. I don’t need a frilly floor-length thing, but I still something fancier than I’d wear to the office. I’m an older bride, so I want my arms covered, and I’d prefer a knee-length or midi hem. Of course, I’m trying to stay economical, but for a dress that’s not a Bridal Gown™, that ought to be manageable. In weddings featured on Cup of Jo, I often see brides wearing joyful dresses at their weddings — but where the heck are you guys finding those?” — Amy

A. Great question!!! We’ve got this, Amy! I scouted around the internet and found some pretty looks, below, in case any of them call your name:

Readers, please add suggestions in the comment section! (This is also really pretty.) And anyone else have a pressing fashion question? xoxoxo

ModCloth! I got mine there for a simple SF city hall elopement. It was knee length and short sleeves and lace. It felt very retro and dressy but not overly done. Price wise very affordable.

I just have to say, I’ve been looking for a dress for my elopement for months, and I found it through this thread! Thank you all!

This is the SWEETEST collaboration! Love seeing all these ideas. It’s a hoot how fast my ads are changing, too!

  4. I’m not sure if this one qualifies because they’re sleeves/vs shoulder coverings, but I’m in love with this little Sarah Seven number. https://www.sarahseven.com/georgie

Tell me if you need a photographer! ;)

Congratulations, Amy! One way to find your dream dress might be to think about what you like in an everyday dress, and then to find an extra-special version of that idea. (For example, I love linen and cotton fit-and-flare dresses for everyday wear, and my party dresses are mostly fit-and-flare dresses made of silk or with pretty embroidery!) My go-to is actually Etsy. I love Ms. Pomeranz and Hearts & Found, and have a few vintage dresses from different sellers, too. My other favorites are Kate Spade and Red Valentino, which I buy secondhand. (I usually save searches on The Real Real if I’m looking for something specific.)

I don’t know why but I continue to save wedding dresses to my Pinterest White board. I wore a lovely ivory dress 22 years ago but these are my favorites if I was getting married to my sweet husband tomorrow.
