Which are you? By the wonderful Grace Farris.
P.S. Looking forward and lipstick styles.
Actually, my biggest pandemic hair stress was that I had to get my passport renewed and they need a picture, of course. No hats allowed! So I needed to do SOMETHING because that’s a picture that’s gonna be with me for 10 years… I booked an appointment right after the salons re-opened but then cancelled because there was a surge in the B-117 variant. I ended up cutting my own bangs and it looked so good, at least for that day, that I immediately went out and got my passport picture and sent the application out. Phew!
Totally incognito, with knit hats. I cut my own bangs but I have curly hair so the rest of it – no can do my own haircut….. Also: no camera on the zoom, thank you…
I lucked out got a haircut before salons closed I have a pixie cut and had my side’s buzzed so I’m good thank god
I’m quarantined with a secret lover and he lit his hair on fire during a candle lit bath. So that’s his pandemic hair.
I also accidentally set my hair on fire, several years ago (note to all: refrain from making overly dramatic gestures near a lit Yankee Candle.)
Fortunately in a way, my hair is so not-great that no one noticed.
Haha I love this. I keep thinking I’ll weather the plague looking either Pentecostal or GI Jane, depending on how annoyed I get with hair touching my neck. Right now it’s weird twisty things that possibly look old-fashioned or possibly 90s rave. Best not to think about it.

Well it will be a toss up between Chop it and The Incognito. It just depends upon whether or not I can keep the scissors away from my hair
Chopped it and love how it turned out!!
Add another one to the “I was about to schedule my pixie cut maintenance before quarantine started” mullet. Been using bobby pins to keep my hair out of my face. Seriously considering wearing scrub caps at work, even though I’m not in the OR. Possibly could claim it’s an infection control measure?
Definitely the black swan
I’ve been coloring my hair for almost 30 years due to hereditary premature gray. Last July I shaved off 24 inches of crazy thick curly hair because of chemo. It started coming back WHITE in November! Just before lockdown a stylist snuck up on me with a cape and shears while my daughter did my nails. Now I’m rocking a faux hawk!!! I say, if you want to shave it, go for it! It’s very liberating :)
My youngest girl keeps pestering me to get myself a new haircut, I just might go for it this weekend!
I can just imagine the run on salons when we’re all able to go back!
LOL what happens in the bun stays in the bun. SEEN!
Noe of the above? I’ve been trying out the Curly Girl Method for a bit now. One upside for me in quarantining has been the chance to dry out different products and techniques without worrying about how my hair turns out! It’s mostly been great – I have time to let it air dry, and it just comes out shiny and for the most part, in beautiful curls! Too bad there is no one here to see it :)
I’ve been getting tons of compliments over video chats…and eye rolls about the effort I must be putting in – but it’s the least I’ve ever done to my hair! Hoping I come out of this with a solid, easy routine.
This is what I thought chemistry lab was and I’m loving it not just with my hair but with everything. Especially makeup: I can finally do proper full-day trials with all stuff I’ve been afraid to use!
I am now “The Chop’t” (!). Well, more like “The Cautiously Trim’t Whilst Sweating Profusely.” Turned out all right!
I decided 18 months ago to stop dying my hair and let the gray shine……so happy about this decision now!
I did the same thing, no ,ore wasting money on coloring!
I had a regular appointment right before our city went into Stay Home mode, but my boys were supposed to go at Spring Break. That didn’t work out, so I trimmed my 9-year-old’s bangs at his request, and I think they look pretty good. The memes about this small aspect of pandemic life are so funny!
Another story is my husband’s hair…he badly needed a cut before we started staying at home. May be best to shave it… I’m too afraid to attempt to cut it, but maybe I should try??
SAME! This is an unexpected source of stress in my house. . .! Ha.
Hair clippers are good to have if you think you’ll be doing a lot of it. They have little numbered clip-on guards that keep the hair all the same length. I’m no barber but an easy ‘guy’ haircut is using guard number 6 on the top (which leaves 3/4″ of hair) and then guard number five on the sides, to make them slightly shorter. There are lots of videos out there that show more detail!
I just cut my boyfriend’s hair tonight! The back-up plan was to try again with a shorter cut, if it turned out awful the first time. And if the second cut was also non-salvageable, he’d shave it. It’s the perfect time to try cutting it, if they’re okay with shaving! For me, it felt low-risk since we’d be inside for the foreseeable future and my bf was okay with shaving it anyways! After watching some YouTube tutorials this afternoon, I just went for it. And it turned out really well. :) So I think it’s a perfect time to try!
After putting my son to bed I walked into the bathroom to see my husband giving a go at cutting his own hair. It looks pretty good actually! I was surprised. A little choppy in the back but no one’s going to see that anytime soon. So glad I didn’t have to do it myself!
i just did it a month ago, and it’s life changing! You won’t regret it.
Rapunzel disguised as a Black Swan for work
Black swan all day, every day.
definitely chemistry lab, i tried to dye my “growing out blonde” hair brown. the couple inches of root hair looks ok but my blonde ends turned out blue! i don’t know how that happened, but whatever. my kids have mixed reviews. my youngest thinks it’s so cool she asked me if i would dye hers purple LOL
I let my fiancé give me a buzz cut with his clippers. It actually looks pretty good!
A sub-category of The Incognito could be advanced bedhead, with couch cushion embellishment.
Hysterical! I can see it!
The bun most days until… I started dreaming of bangs? Seems like a bad idea to attempt myself. But maybe will do a light dusting at the ends to get rid of split ends?
My dad, on the other hand, wants me to give him a haircut. Wish me luck.
Yessss. Chemistry lab, rapunzel, and bun. Never thought of chop’t but that just might be next!
Wait. Wait. I need help cutting my eight year old son’s hair. Also, can we get a cartoon for that?
Not kidding about the help. We’ve been locked down for five weeks, it is fully in his eyes, and I’m going to have to resort to Youtube. This is not going to be a picnic. Help!
here’s a tutorial, if that’s helpful! xoxo

THANK YOU! Oh my gosh, thank you. How did I not catch that post the first time it went by? That is my weekend project.
Still scared, but now I can feel I am in cool company while I give my kid dumb-and-dumber bangs!
I’ve been cutting my own hair for the last year. Mostly because cuts have become so expensive but also because it felt kind of thrilling. And it’s awesome! I trim it up whenever I feel like it. My hair is healthier because I’m cutting it more frequently and not spending $100 a pop on a cut feels great. Plus there’s a roguish quality to it that I can’t put my finger on but feels so good. Kind of like taking ownership of my own body, if that makes sense?
How did you learn how to cut your hair? Interested! Was thinking of trying to trim mine.
If my hair was a little longer, it would definitely be a bun all day, every day. Instead, count me as incognito. Ponytail, hat, done. Ain’t going anywhere except the yard anyway.
Not pictured is the shaggy, grown out bob.
… Along with the shaggy, showing-grey, grown-out long pixie.
haha! black swan all day every day. gotta figure something else out since I’m realizing I look bald in zoom meetings…..
Mine is all falling out from stress, waaaaa!!! Hoping it balances out eventually, but it’s just coming out terribly right now.
Mine would be a “grease lightning” style. Haven’t washed it since who knows when. A low-maintenance person’s dream!
Chop’t. I thought i could take some weight out using with a razor….ended up with a bald spot behind my ear. But, what better time to experiment I guess? The spot has already filled in! Like it never happened ;)
Definitely the Chop’t! I gave myself a trim for the first time in my life… I think it came out ok, except for the part where I tried to give myself a face-framing layer. ;)
Incognito ALL day EVERY day – thank goodness I have so many hats :)
The bun.
exactly. granted i wear “the bun” a LOT even without the social distancing, haha – but “the bun” is definitely the norm while home. currently rocking it right now!
Chop’t
OMG, I am laughing so hard, this illustration is so good! I am the black swan
It’s been like a month of quarantine…. but even I am feeling desperate to have my hair cut all of a sudden. Why are we like this? lol Before all this I’d have my hair trimmed four times a year!
Incognito
Since I have a pixie cut growing into a mullet, buzz cut might be me!!!
I’m experimenting with not washing or using product. So far my naturally curly hair is looking great! Much more bouncy!
I am definitely the Rapunzel haha — I was planning on getting a hair cut right before all this kicked off and then obviously never got around to it. I think now might be the time to invest in learning to cut my own hair but it’s hard to get over all the warnings against doing it…I guess the good news is even if I mess it up horribly no one will see it anyway!
SAME! I even had the appointment! So now I am interviewing for jobs over Zoom with long straight hair fried from my bar shampoo experiments last year. I’m just going back to earning money after eight years of babyhood and, well. Actually, no haircut to boost me is the least weird thing about it all by this point. But that first interview….
I am fortunate enough to still be working. But only a couple of us at a time in the office. I’ve gotten really lazy in the last 2 weeks. Usually wash my hair, and get to work with still wet hair. Then throw on a hat, or put in a clip once dry. I’m sure my hair is loving it. No hair drying must be doing wonders for it.
I will have achieved each of these options by the time this is over. Scissors are coming out this weekend!
Add the skunk stripe….I tried dry shampooing my hair yesterday, and thought it looked pretty good, until my husband walked past my seated self and got a good glimpse of the top of my head….and a very definite white stripe of bakingsoda/cornstarch. A good conversation starter…..
Ain’t nobody seen a messy bun like my messy bun over the last few weeks!
**dies a little inside**
Honestly, it made me get over the social stigma of it all and learn how to trim my own bangs. It’s power.
I’m gonna continue doing it past lockdown and donate the amount I would have spent in a salon on a good socialist cause.
Rapunzel and bun!
This needs hijab hair. It’s a thing.
Mine would be the “I just showered yesterday but my hair already looks like it needs a wash today” *cries*
Chemistry lab. Did my own toner using redken shadeseq and some youtube tutorials. Not really sure why I felt the need, since no one will be seeing my brassy highlights these days anyway, but it was kind of fun!
Exactly! thank goodness I’m not too high maintenance-but the hair…
I think I’m gonna shave my head after 15 years of fantasizing about it!
Do it!
I did this when I was 20 during a study abroad program in the rainforest. This quarantine might be another good time to try it!
If I could competently give myself a one-inch-all-over cut, I would.
