My dog is a cuter baby in my home. I have fun and share everything with it like a friend.
This is so cute! I’m definitely guilty of using the Cheerleader and Monologue with my dog at home. I’m constantly talking to my dog like they’re an actual human. That last one also really hits home because I love to watch the Great British Baking Show, which I never realized so many people watched until now.
All of them!!
I always sing to my German Shepherd. She has two songs – Baby Love and (P)uptown Girl. I also use a low, threatening/pleading mutter whenever we’re approaching other dogs or people on our walks. She always does great, but I always feel like I need to remind her of the behavior expected of her.
All of the above.
He is my best friend and such a great listener. ;)
My dogs HEAR me but do they LISTEN? Might as well have a couple more husbands!!!!
Actually I have a wonderful husband but I DO have to say everything twice. The first time I say something is, to him, simply a way to indicate that I WILL be saying something shortly. After 41 years I guess we’ve worked it out.
Everyone in our family talks to our dog like she’s a tiny baby. We use a baby voice and she knows when we are speaking to her when our tone changes. It’s super embarrassing at work when I show photos of her to colleagues and take on that baby voice in public!! :)
?❤❤❤❤❤????
As I speak lots with our cats and have a tendency to greet strange dogs but not their owners when I meet them on my walks: good on you!!!! I would love to have you as my coworker. ?
Exactly what I was thinking- how could you miss the baby voice?! We totally use baby voices with our dog and so.embarrassing but can’t stop!
I was at my parents’ house recently and after my dog came in from outside I heard my mom say, “Are you singing Oliver a little song?”. Until then I hadn’t really thought about the fact that not only do I sometimes sing to my dog but he has a whole theme song I’ve made up for him! I live alone so normally he’s the only one there to witness it.
I just lost my doggie soul mate last Saturday :( His loss has left a huge gaping hole in my heart but I am so grateful for the nine years we spent together. It’s amazing how much your dog becomes integrated into the everyday, mundane tasks of life. Running at the sound of the can opener turning (Wyatt LOVED tuna), greeting the pizza guy at the door, sleeping next to our children every single night. It rounded out our lives in the best way. He was our faithful companion, our security blanket and best friend. And I’m sure going to miss him!
I’m so sorry about your loss of your beloved furry family member. They do leave such a un-fillable gaping hole when they are gone….
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤??
My sincere condolences.
I’m so sorry Chantsy ♥️
I hope you’ll bring another swret friend into your home and heart soon. Wyatt sounds like a super special fellow.
Thank you so much!! Your comments totally made me cry but mean a lot. ❤️❤️
If only dried worms were the only thing they found on walks… years ago, our Labrador swallowed a net bag — the kind that roasts or poultry come in. An expensive trip to the vet followed. She was the kind of dog that would let you put your hand practically down her throat if necessary, but that bag was GONE before I could even shout.
Oh no! Our dog doesn’t eat non-food things but we live in Colorado and he occasionally runs off and casually comes back with oh, a deer leg . My brother and sister in law were visiting with my 3 year old nephew. We were chatting a lot on the hike and I wasn’t paying close attention. I thought the dog had a stick. Until he hopped up into the car and dropped a hoof into my nephew’s car seat! He’s just so proud of his “treasures”. (Just to be clear he is not responsible for the demise of the deer he just finds what is left behind).
same with my dog…..I had to spend minutes trying to pry his jaws apart to keep him from trying to swallow a golfball sized cartilage covered ball joint from a deer? a coyote? hopefully not a human!? That could of choked him on the spot. He would do it again in a heartbeat as, I am sure, would your dog.
umm… where are the ones for people who talk FOR their dogs, not just TO them? is… is it just me?
You’re not alone! My husband and I have very specific voices for our dog and each of our cats. I can’t fathom how other people don’t do this.
no,…every time on our walk-
Me: Gypsy, What do you think could possibly be down that hole?
Also Me: A squirrel, Mom!
Absolutely. I have voices for all the family dogs (mine and my mom’s). And I still sometimes do the voice for my most beloved dog who died 12 years ago. It’s just such a fun voice to do and he always had so much to say!
We have a very specific voice for our dog, and we sometimes wonder if he is offended that we make him sound kind of pathetic and whiny…he is such a great dog (85 pound Black Labrador) but has the biggest sad-sack eyes so we can’t help but make his voice sound like his expression!
I have found my people!
I do this so much that now my mum talks for my dog too :)
Nope, it’s not just you!
Everyone in my building has conversations with Ziggy and wait for his (my) response. I don’t know why I do it, but even the dog waits to see what I’m gonna say for him…weird! 🙄
My boy is the best boy so I never have to desperately plea. I do, however, cheer him on in both loud exclaims and low, doting whispers. He is the very best boy.
I regularly do the Whisper to my dog when we are out hiking. She used to be way over the top when meeting dogs and people and now I’m just so pleased when she’s polite!!!!
Cheerleader! But, my daughter and I have also created voices for all of our pets and have conversations with each other or just narrate the pets’ days in their voices. We often joke that we don’t know what we’d do with our free time or what we’d talk about if we didn’t have our animals.
hahaha that is so cute!!
OMG!!! Tiffani Green – ME TOO!!! Mu husband and I do this all the time and we laugh and laugh!! hahaha!! We’ve often thought of starting a youtube channel for them LOL but then realize it’s more fun it just being for us! hehe!
LOL at The Whisper! My dog HATES the poodle next door, so I’m trying to teach her to be nicer to him. I try to praise her quietly when we approach him and anytime we pass other dogs. I feel sort of ridiculous.
Love this! I am both cheerleader and monologue mom.
I love that the artist’s last name is Barker. (Also: all of them.)
I couldn’t vouch for the dog voices, but some of these are remarkable close to “little kitty voice.” For example, “Who’s the fuzziest wubby in all the west? It’s you! It’s you! You’re the fuzziest wubby in all the west.” Which is a conversation I have with my cat on the daily.
Haha, I couldn’t agree with you more. My version is “who’s the cutest snuggle bunny in the universe? You are!”
Yes, I have a cat but sometimes I call her snuggle bunny. :)
That’s me and the bf with our cats. Except we’re a little less complimentary. “Oooh! This house smells like a barn! Was it you, huh? Was it you?” or “Nobody wants to smell your tail. Because you’re a stinker. Yes you are! A stinker!” I’m sure the cats are all “whatever”. (ha ha ha)
The teacher! “first I will steam the carrots and chard like so, then use an immersion blender to puree. Let cool, mix with cottage cheese and raw hamburger…..and voila! (dog) supper!” My dog loves to watch me cook in the kitchen and I explain to him every step of what I am doing. He is rapt student, especially when crinkly bags are involved. Seriously, I think there should be a dog channel involving small furry animals and cooking shows .
This is funny. Reminds me of advice I heard for talking to babies – be a sports broadcaster! Just explain to them everything that’s going on. Play by play. They too love it.
All so true.
Our dog tackled a skunk in our yard 4 weeks ago and there was a lot of screaming (from me). I was in the yard in my underwear at midnight as I scrubbed her with skunk shampoo. Sorry, neighbors!
PS the dog still smells.
The skunks are SO BAD this season! I’m in the midwest; they’re all over, either running through the shrubs or lying dead in the road. (Cue the song.)
Sorry, neighbors! hahahaha
Last summer I successfully distracted my dog (while off leash too) from seeing a porcupine waddling around the neighborhood. Thank god he didn’t get a hold of that creature and get quilled a million times.
A mix of hydrogen peroxide, dish soap, and water really helps with the smell.
That last one has me feeling some things… because NETFLIX TOOK OUR BRITISH BAKING BINGE RIGHTS AWAY! One episode a week. Painful.
OMG, so painful.
