Strawberry Galette by Sarah Jampel

What are you up to this weekend? We are heading to Fire Island! We haven’t been in years, and the boys are so excited to swim in the ocean and walk barefoot to the ice cream shop. Hope you have a good one, and here are a few fun links from around the web…

Omg Issa Rae’s acceptance speech at the Women in Film Gala was perfect. MUST WATCH.

Your new beachcombing activity, other than skipping rocks.

Keanu Reeves keeps his hands to himself! Love this.

Nothing says summer like a salt spray, and this one is the best.

The secret to a joyful life.

How I’m saving for my parents’ retirement.”

20 things we’ve learned from TV made me laugh out loud. “If being chased through town, you can take cover in a passing St. Patrick’s Day parade — at any time of the year.”

Lovely swimsuits for nursing moms.

Funny Trader Joe’s reviews. “Just make your own eggs, people.”

How to triumph like a girl.

Happy Father’s Day to all the wonderful fathers and father figures out there, and big hugs to those who are missing someone this weekend. Also, if you’d like to help more dads be with their kids, please join us in donating to RAICES. They do wonderful, important work.

Plus, two reader comments:

Says Julie on four fun things: “No one makes me laugh harder than David Sedaris. If you haven’t read his latest, Calypso, it’s the perfect book for the beach/commute/de-stressing. One of my favorite quotes: ‘I told myself that one day I would buy a beach house and that it would be everyone’s, as long as they followed my draconian rules and never stopped thanking me for it.'”

Says Ceridwen on what baking recipes do you like: “The recipe I’ve loved is Hetty’s olive oil cake that you posted. My mother was seriously ill, and we were going through a very uncertain, stressful time. I needed to do something that required one simple step after another to rest my mind. Baking that cake, especially rubbing the orange rind into the sugar, was the most beautiful, life-affirming and calming act. I smiled into it, cried a little but felt such pleasure. I took the cake on the drive to my parents’ place, and my brother and I devoured it during the trip. It’s a wonderful cake for sharing, and now making it brings me complete calm and joy.”

Have a good one. xoxo
