Is anyone else’s soft early 2000’s top nearing the end of its life and causing them irrational anxiety?
YES YES YES
One of my great joys in life is being comfy AF at home, no matter how ridiculous I look. When I was in college, people used to comment on my weird PJ/Sweatpants/Robe/Fleece-everything outfits that I wore in the dorms. As an adult I am the owner of not one but TWO fleece onesies and wear them on the regular for lounging at home in the winter. Fleece onesie + LLBean slippers + crazy hair + no bra + mismatched socks = my look. My husband is a lucky guy.
LOL! This is 100% spot on!
I’m taking a personal day today and staying home to clean house and I just went through ALL these old t-shirts from the last decade. I only got rid of one because, well, see above!
What about the 20+ year old favourite band/concert tee that is stained with paint and food and is threadbare at the sleeves and neck? I still live in my 23 year old Radiohead t-shirt even though it’s barely even ‘on’ me for all of the giant holes.
This is the realest!
Real talk, I can never figure out where I want to settle on the “I’m at home, comfort is king” “I dress nicely for myself even when no one is around” spectrum. It depends so much on my mood but I’d really like to pick one so that I can keep a smaller wardrobe! Anyone else?
I invested in some cute (and incredibly soft) joggers from Anthropologie and some color coordinated t-shirts and tanks from Aritzia. So now I feel VERY cute when I’m lounging around my apartment, but I’m also just as comfortable as if I was in giant sweats and stained promotional t-shirts. Loungewear is king these days so you can find some really great options on every end of the price spectrum.
I can’t figure this out either. My comfy clothes tend to be big and worn in and ugly, like this huge stained robe I wear every day. It’s so hideous and frumpy that it makes me look sick, even when I’m not. It just screams “flu robe.” And yet… so warm.
My mood fluctuates, too. Sometimes I’m okay with flu robe, and other times I want to float around in a silky little number and feel cute just for myself. I also wish I could pick one and have a smaller wardrobe. Maybe you just need both?
Same same – If my body is sore for whatever reason, comfy clothes it is. Otherwise, I like to dress nicely for myself, especially so that when I’m out and also dressing nicely, I look comfortable (because I am comfortable, this isn’t out of the ordinary for me)
Since I moved in with my husband five years ago and realized I didn’t want him to only see me in pajamas in the morning and workout clothes in the evening, I started a section of my wardrobe I call my House Dresses. They’re basically any simple, comfortable dress that I’ve worn out, outgrown, or otherwise deemed unsuitable for work or social outings. I throw one on after cleaning up from the day and wear it while making dinner, watching TV, etc. in the evening, and I still feel “dressed” but also comfortable, without having to think much about it or create a ton of extra laundry.
My camp sweatshirt from 1998. Thank the good Lord that 4th grade me HAD to have the XL. It was comically large then and is comfortably large now.
Ha! I have that gray t-shirt–except mine is not a V-neck, and it doesn’t have a pocket. But it has the same holes everywhere, is soooo soft and I LOVE IT SO MUCH. I have had it since my early 20s, when it used to go out of the house with me. It’s for inside only now, given its state, but I still reach for it 30 years later. Amazing!
my number one staying in top is the three year old kimono/robe I wear every day but lost the waist tie to it forever ago so it just hangs open, leaving my boobs out and it doesn’t keep me warm or comfy making it completely pointless like a thin cape with sleeves, and yet, I wear it every day
ah aha ha!
I sometimes put my pajama top at the same time of my chid because it is just so comfortable (yes, sometimes it’s not even 7pm).
omg, i have one of these kimonos too, but i have the waist tie, just to lazy to use it! I wear to the hot tub and back and it lies on my bedroom floor next to the bed damp, and every morning I hang it back up and think about how much I love it: so ill treated, yet so uncomplaining.
To my mind the main point of a robe is to flutter dramatically as you walk down the hall, wave your arms, or stand on the balcony (basically what Lana is wearing in the High By The Beach video), so this sounds about right to me.
