My friend Tracy works in fashion, and I’m always inspired by the way she puts clothes together. How cheery is the combo of a white shirt and yellow bag? It makes me excited for spring. Here are a few more lovely white tops out there: lace, V-neck, cotton and linen.
Do you have a work mantra? Designer Erin Jang talked to Banana Republic about her creative process, and says she keeps in mind this quote by Vico Magistretti: “Look at usual things with unusual eyes.” I keep thinking about it. Isn’t that great advice for life overall?
Alex and I have been watching Mad Men, and the other night we stumbled across this video of Jon Hamm and January Jones dancing to ‘Bye Bye Birdie.’ Can’t stop laughing at his moves (and faces).
P.S. More fun things, including a glacier wedding, and what has inspired you lately?

The egg sandwich caught my attention! The Japanese sure take their sandwiches (and everything else) to the next level, don’t they? I also saw this epic sandwich on this popular Japanese food site. https://www.justonecookbook.com/wanpaku-sandwich/
It’s gotta be the most colorful, ultimate sandwich out there! Have anyone tried it?
Thanks for all the fun things! It’s like discovering great secrets that make your day!
Jon & January look like Dick York and Elizabeth Montgomery on the set of Bewitched ! Jon would make such a wonderful Darrin Stephens.
Take your egg sandwich to the next level and have a CURRIED egg sandwich instead! Sooo yummy. Might make one this afternoon…
I love pretty white peasant-y blouses! That’s the first thing I look for when I’m thrift shopping.
Here’s a pretty one at Target right now, under $25!

Love a lacy top!
I want to share a fun thing with you. Inspired part Cup of Jo and part Manrepeller, this week my 10 year old daughter has been choosing my entire outfit every day, for 5 days. The criteria…must be work and weather appropriate and she has to get it ready the night before. Also no bikinis but that, luckily, falls under the work appropriate criteria! It’s been so much fun and bought a sense of playfulness to my whole day. Others at my workplace have been excited about it too and comment on her choices of colours or combinations of fabrics. She loves hearing about all the things people say. I was surprisingly nervous before we started and get butterflies before each outfit reveal! But I’ve rolled with it and it has made me think about how I nit pick too much when I dress, it’s been so freeing to just go with it! After the last outing it, I was a bit concerned about the work appropriate criteria because I had an important meeting (top was really cropped and double denim – she switched the crop top for a rainbow sparkly tee and blazer) but she said, “well…if anyone comments, just tell them your daughter dressed you.” Now she wants to do it every Valentines week. I’m in!
this is so, so cute!!!! i love it. now i want to see pics :)
“Others at my workplace have been excited about it too and comment on her choices of colours or combinations of fabrics… I get butterflies before each outfit reveal!” THE CUTEST!
This is so great! I would love to see pics… I am sure they are adorable. I can’t help but wonder how my own kids would dress me… so I totally get the butterflies!
Joanna!!! Please let Toby & Anton dress you for a week!!
I would love to share the pics! On Instagram @ceridwen_box :) My 6 year old is dressing me next week. I’m getting a feeling I’ll be wearing a lot of party dresses!
I would love to share the pics with you. The girls had fun taking them too. We posted them on Instagram @ceridwen_box which was also part of the fun and getting such happy comments was ace. My 6 year old is dressing me next week…I’m getting ready for flowers and party dresses! Yes, you should totally get the boys to dress you. It gives such a nice insight into how they see you!
I’d love to share the pics! We posted them on Instagram @ceridwen_box . That was really a fun part of it too. Such happy comments that I didn’t expect. My 6 year old is dressing me next week. I’m thinking flowers and party frocks! Yeep!
Post more plant based meals please!
Can you do a roundup of nice spring tops that would work well for breastfeeding mamas?
such a good idea! we’ll scout around xoxo
Two of my major girl crushes! The style! The color! Their happy faces!
My favorite breakfast (and to be honest lunch) atm is a cold mid-hard boiled egg, sliced on buttered toast, sprinkled with salt, pepper & good olive oil.
YUM, that sounds so good. i love love love eggs and actually had cheddar scrambled eggs last night.
To Whom It May Concern:
Consider this a formal request for a Week of Outfits featuring Tracy Georgiou.
Warm regards,
All of us
hahahha i’ll ask her!
ditto.
And where is her white top from? The ones linked are not very alike…
I recently spent 2 months in Japan and ate those perfect little convenience store, or konbini sandwiches every single day. (not kidding) They have so many different fillings and options and they’re just works of art. They DON’T fall apart till the last bite! A miracle of engineering.. I can’t wait to go back and have the option of a dozen sandwiches for every meal in Japan. My favorite is fried pork with pickled veggies yummmm
PS I make youtube videos about Japan, and the quirky, crazy, magical things from that country, if you’d like to check it out: https://www.youtube.com/secondbreakfast
DEfinitely planning an entire Japan’s Convenience store sandwiches documentary in my head! <3 <3
I love your videos!
I just read a Japanese thriller where the main characters are 4 women who work the overnight shift in one of the factories that makes those convenience store meals, and it was a really interesting perspective! It’s probably the only example I can think of where I was reading about any kind of food packing and thought “I’d totally eat that…”
Kate- what book is that? It sounds interesting!
I just finished “Convenience Store Woman,” a short, quirky novel in which the protagonist spends her entire adult life (happily) working in a Japanese convenience store, despite pleas from her family and friends to get a Real Job. The New Yorker headline summarizes it well: “Sayaka Murata’s Eerie ‘Convenience Store Woman’ Is a Love Story Between a Misfit and a Store.” I was captivated by her descriptions of the food they stocked.
Can confirm that the packaged egg salad sandwiches from the 7-11 in Shibuya were fantastic.
I feel like a pregnant lady with a craving when it comes to hard boiled eggs lately! I think in a previous post I waxed poetic about my tiny little egg-peeling spoon from Amazon. This sandwich looks like pure heaven to me.
Tell me about this spoon, please!
I’ve tried Konbi’s sandwich and it lives up to the hype!
I seem to recall an Anthony Bourdain show episode on these egg salad sandwiches. He literally fell apart when one could not be found while filming in Japan. I guess it was one of his favorite foods ever, and that is saying a lot!
I recently saw Hairy Bikers Asian Adventures on Netflix. Think two goofy british guys who are as passionate about food as Bourdain but have way more fun. In one episode they showcased okonomiyaki: japanese egg cabbage pizza with assorted toppings….and now it is my new obsession. Luckily I was able to get some at our local japanese restaurant. Its a great egg based comfort food. I plan on making it at home as soon as I can find some mountain yam. here is a brief video on how to make. This is just one version. It can be made entirely vegetarian too.

Any idea where Erin’s sweater is from in that picture? I love it!
i’ll ask her!

here’s another one i just saw that’s similar: http://bit.ly/2Szv2CU
Haha, Jon Hamm. He has so much range. I love him on SNL, 30 Rock, Kimmy Schmidt… his comedy chops are amazing…. and on Mad Men he just breaks your heart. He’s a treasure.
omg he is HILARIOUS as a comedic actor — his stint on 30 rock was magic.
sigh.. jon hamm is just so perfect.
No he’s not. Ask the poor frat guys he took part in hazing as a college student.
He set someone on FIRE.
I had no idea how much I needed dome Jon Hamm, today, but somehow you did. Tha ks!
hahaha i was laughing so much!
Where is the cute lace top from in the photo of Tracy though?! Please share if possible!
it’s from the frankie shop, but it’s sold out, sadly!
https://thefrankieshop.com/collections/tops
This top, omg, so light and fluffy and yet so put together! I’ve been searching the internet for something similar – any ideas?
I’m obsessed with that lace top and jeans combo – so pretty! This is the closest top I’ve come across so far in my search for something similar. https://www.yesstyle.com/en/barrimore-elbow-sleeve-eyelet-lace-top/info.html/pid.1071388116##productAnchor
bonnie, that one is SO similar, great find!
Thanks Joanna! I have to admit that your response just made my day. I’m such a big fan/admirer of you and your blog. :)
