A Week of Outfits: Sharon Mrozinski

Week of Outfits: Sharon Mrozinski

Sharon Mrozinski and her husband Paul run an antique store, Marston House, in Maine. Her wardrobe includes linen tops and vintage shoes, mixed with Abercrombie jeans a teenage friend encouraged her to buy. “I said, ‘I’m too old!’ and she said, ‘You can wear them, don’t be silly!'” Here, Sharon shares her five go-to looks and a funny breakfast ritual…

Week of Outfits: Sharon Mrozinski

Shirt: men’s vintage, similar. Pants: Abercrombie. Leotard: Capezio. Sandals: Cydwoq. Pearl earrings:, similar.

“My style icon is Katharine Hepburn. I love her especially in men’s clothing, which I wear often. This white shirt is a vintage 1900s men’s dress shirt from France. I also have men’s equestrian riding pants that I wear in the winter. They have that wide thigh; I just love them. Overall, I like loose, flowing pieces that feel easy.”

Jacket and pants: Samuel Snider. Shirt: 45R. Sandals: vintage Armani, similar.

“The jacket and pants are by Samuel Snider, a young designer who makes clothing from antique linen sheets! He bought tons of bedding from our store and made the most wonderful collection; I was absolutely astounded. I like to roll up men’s pants. What he’s working toward is more of that — getting rid of gender — which I think is great.”

Week of Outfits: Sharon Mrozinski

Dress: Album di Famiglia, similar and similar. Scarf: similar. Tights: similar. Bag: Marston House, similar.

“We found these giant market bags in France at a tiny village hardware store. You could get paint and bulbs and cleaning products… and these bags. Now we sell them at our store and they sell out. We take ours food shopping, use it as a laundry basket, pack it for the beach, and leave one in a guest room for guests. And these shoes work well because I have bunions! I love soaking my feet — I’ll use epsom salts and put in coconut oil or olive oil, whatever I have, and throw in some essential oils like lavender, and bring the water to where it’s hot and comfortable, and I’ll just sit for a half hour, maybe while we’re having breakfast.”

Week of Outfits: Sharon Mrozinski

Dress: 45R. Pants: Abercrombie. Sandals: vintage, similar.

“Our style has grown more similar as we have been together. Paul and I will get dressed separately in the morning, and then realize our clothes are exactly the same! I got into shopping when I started working at an ice cream parlor as a teenager. Then I’d go out and buy things. My parents were very humble, so I’d cut off the price tag before my mom would see it, or I would cross off what I’d actually paid for it in red and put a ridiculously low price.”

Week of Outfits: Sharon Mrozinski

Shirt: Kiko, similar. Pants: vintage, similar. Hat: similar. Watch: vintage Hermès men’s.

“I like to button shirts all the way to the top, but leave the bottom open. Maine summers are hot, so I want to capture the sea breezes. Over my last 74 years, people have asked, do you have any florals? And I say, you know, I guess I don’t. Usually I wear monochromes: white, natural, grey, navy, black. My closet is so easy, I can close my eyes and grab. I love clothes that I can put on and not think about until I go to bed. They go straight from grocery shopping to working to yoga to a bike ride to dinner.”

“We love living here. Maine and especially Vinalhaven feel so familiar to our childhood memories. Kids walk along the water’s edge or get down in the water and try to catch crabs. Maine never disappoints, you just keep digging deeper and deeper. Maine, like nature itself, is eternally deep.”

Thank you so much, Sharon!

And a few photos of Maine because we can’t help it:

  1. Late to the thread but OMG I am so glad this was posted. I LOVE this woman’s wardrobe and words! I want to be her when I am her age!

    • Peggy says...

I am her age and I am going to start “being her”!!

  2. Maria says...

Thank you so much Jo for posting this! So lovely & inspiring to see an older woman look so beautiful and stylish. Such women exist all around us, but they are featured so rarely in the media! Way to go. Thank you again.

  3. Jill says...

I’d love to go to Maine!

What a wonderful lifestyle she seems to have. And her wardrobe entirely complements that. True style!

And all Americans have great teeth. Which helps!

  4. Nancy says...

Makes me happy to see someone over 60 featured. Sharon is an inspiration!

  5. L says...

Jo & team – I LOVE when you feature women over 40 like Sharon. As a 31 y/o, it feels like we don’t have enough non-celebrity women to look to for inspiration in style, or even for how we can age. Surrounded by all these images of 20’s models in every ‘ad’ we see, you could get the sense that we ‘vanish’. How lovely she is (and it has nothing to do with age!)… thank you again xo

  6. Alix says...

Oh I love her style! Am really in a nowhere place with my style at the moment – a mix of getting older, moving to a new climate, no longer in an office every day. She has inspired me – thank you!

  7. Dianne says...

Close to Sharon’s age I was about to return a pair of skinny jeans I purchased last week (thinking I was too old to wear them) after reading this I am keeping them.

  8. Jill says...

It’s really all about that beautiful smile. What a perfect accessory!

  9. Laura says...

What a beautiful woman. She looks so content in her skin. Lovely.

  10. Kate Logan says...

This woman!!! My favourite ‘Week of Outfits’ yet. As an offshoot of this post (specifically re: her cashmere leggings), I don’t suppose you’d consider doing a post on leggings? They’re such a staple (at least for me) but I feel like I could be wearing better ones:) Thank you, as always, for the really stellar content! xo

    • Carol says...

I’d love a post on leggings too. I used to buy the most comfortable pair from Top Shop but they don’t seem to stock them anymore. I’m really slow to buy a different pair now as the Top Shop pair were the most comfortable brand and never sagged at the knees. I’m trying to make my last pair last as long as I can 😄😄

  11. I just tried on my daughter’s Abercrombie jeans. She’s right! They’re great!

  12. SN says...

    Style. Icon.

  13. KSM says...

My Sandal Soul sister !! If I could afford, I would buy each and every sandal she is wearing. I know this is going to be one post I am going to come back to for years and decades, just for inspiration and not for things and clothes and shoes but just generally for life and living.
I read this post after Carolines’s post about role models and I have to say that I am not sure I can have a single role model or ever had one, but these are the kind of people I like to see or read about, not to follow or emulate their lives but to see how different people embrace who they are and live a satisfied life. And that you can lead a satisfied, happy, complete life as long as you ground yourself and your soul.

    Love this one! Beautiful photos
There is nothing like good vintage linen next to your skin. The weight creates a feeling of comfort-safety as well as a sort of companionship. Sounds weird, but sturdy linen, like sheets are, is a favorite fabric, a real at Self wrap around.

  16. Jacqueline says...

I live in the Portland area. I assume her shop is on Vinalhaven? Will have to check it out if we take a day trip. In the meantime, we should have a mini reunion here in Vacationland. Portland is fantastic and Bon Appetit just named it the top city of 2018!

  17. I love the Week of Outfits feature, but this is my all-time favourite! Lovely to see an older woman who’s super-stylish and living a creative life. Can we have more, please ? 😊
