This is so wise! So so wise! Thank you for reminding me of self-love
Marit
I’m like many others here. This might be the best illustration yet. And I’m keeping a copy to remind myself to talk differently to myself!
This is my favorite yet Mari! Thank you so much.
Whoa boy did I need these pep talks today! Thanks for the reminder to be gentle and kind and caring to myself, these will be going on my mirror so I can see them on the regular.
I so needed to read this today! It’s my birthday, and I got back from a business trip late last night and I’m still exhausted but I felt like I needed to do something epic today because you only turn 30 once…..but this reminded me that it’s ok to give my body what it needs, and right now that’s lots of sleep and h2o! Thanks!
Happy birthday Anna! ♥️
Happy late birthday!
LOVE this one so much. I really look forward to Mari’s illustrations. They always cheer me up, she has such a way of keeping it real and lifting us up. I would also love to see her sell her work as illustrations and cards. I know we would all love them!
Touching a special spot in my heart.
I recently took The School of Life questionnaire “How to Find a Job You Love.” One of the key findings to learn to mute the unhelpful, negative inner voices in my head, so this post is very timely. I’ve printed out three copies of the image and glued them inside my three notebooks (one for work, one for personal tasks/lists, and my journal – I know, it’s weird). This is the kind of self-care I can really get behind.
Amy, re: 3 notebooks, sounds like you’ve got your sh*t together to me!
I love this SO MUCH.
Truly wonderful, Mari!! xo
sweet.
Yesterday my osteopathic doc told me to say to myself: What do you need, sweetheart? It was so fun to say that all day to me. And then today I saw this! : )
I love that!! What a wonderful way to nurture ourselves:)
I often repeat Jo’s phrase “take gentle care of yourself” to friends who are having a tough time / day, and now I’ll definitely remember your doctor’s question. So sweet! xo
i love that, misha! and molly, so happy to hear :)
This just made me tear up! So sweet. Why are we so hard on ourselves?
Wow, I love all of Mari’s illustrations, but this is one of her absolute best!!
Does Mari have a website where she sells these? I love her illustrations, but I think this is my favorite. xo
she doesn’t yet but she has a book coming out this month!

I love this and thank you for the weekly Mari Andrews illustrations and your thoughtful posts that are like little presents <3
I rarely comment on these posts, but I think this is my favorite one ever! I just love it, and need to practice it more. Would be an amazing print.
Favorite one: as if you were talking to a child. Some things are just scary and those feelings are valid. But you are going to be better for facing them. Thanks for this sweet reminder
I love Mari! Just pre ordered her book. How can I get one of her free prints now that I’ve ordered the book? I think there was a Cup of Jo special?
Just fill out this form: http://bymariandrew.com/book/
This is also my favorite illustration you’ve shared of Mari’s. I’m going to try to remember to do this.
Joanna, in your beauty uniform years ago you wrote about treating yourself as a friend: “It’s pretty remarkable to realize how much we nitpick ourselves when the rest of the world just sees a nice smiling person and leaves it at that.”
Now when I get anxious, I remind myself over and over that I am just a “nice smiling person” – thank you (and Mari!) for that and this illustration!
Beautiful. I feel this one in my heart! It almost makes me cry.
I love this! Off topic, but for some reason this post reminded me of an older post where you said sometimes you and Alex are like “we’re parenting geniuses!” when things are going right with Toby and Anton. Anyways, I told my husband about that post and now whenever our tyrant 14 month old is being awesome we’re always like “we’re parenting geniuses.” It makes us laugh every time even though secretly we both know the tide can always turn in a second!
hahaha that makes me laugh so much, emma!
Haha this whole week I’ve been talking to myself like Reese Witherspoon talks to her Hollywood Boulevard Star (if you haven’t seen the video or follow her on Instagram, you’re missing out!). “Now you’re looking good, girl! Now don’t you let nobody walk all over you…you’re a queen!”
just what i needed to hear! this would be a great print to have framed above your desk! i look forward to mari’s illustrations every week—her skillshare class was the catalyst for me to finally start painting and to stop being scared of trying. ❤️
This reminds me of the other night when my fiance and I were watching the Warriors basketball game and he was “coaching” the players from our sofa by saying “Ok, now just make the basket! Just put the ball, in the hoop.” and “Ok, now just stop the ball. Don’t let them put the ball in the hoop!” – all in the tone of voice one would use to speak to a 6 yr old’s basketball team. It was so funny!
My husband talks to our cat like she’s a 6 year old. I always catch him saying things like “is that the best choice you can be making right now?” or “there are consequences to our actions” when she’s being naughty and jumping onto the table.
No, c’mon I mean, this is the best EVER.
But WHY on Earth is so hard to get and do it??
Could Mari just post this EVERY week? For the slow to catch on among us……
Love this so much! These are really good reminders.
briana
love this!
OMG, this is the best. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes!
This is amazing. We must remember to be kind to ourselves. I’d also like to add that as much as it’s important to give yourself the same love, support, and encouragement as you would to a bff/lover/parent/pet/etc., self-love is also knowing when you are not being treated kindly and speaking up for yourself in situations where you are not being given the mutual respect or love that you put out there.
Thank you so much for saying this: it really resonated with me.
I love this. I should have this hanging on my wall at work to I remind myself on the daily!
Going in for a job interview in 10mins, this is exactly what I needed!
GOOD LUCK!!!!! we’re rooting for you!
Hope it went well, Lea!!
I got the job!!! Loved seeing your support, thank you!
Good for you Lea!!! Yaaaaaaay!
I hope you love it and you are well appreciated.
congratulations, lea!!!!!!!!
This is probably one of my favorite illustrations you have featured thus far! What a good reminder to love yourself and speak to yourself like you would to others you respect.
