12 Quilts for Babies and Kids

12 Quilts for Babies and Kids

What’s sweeter than a sleeping child? Basically nothing, except maybe one with a cozy quilt tucked under her chin. Here are 12 quilts that would look lovely on a bed, spread out on the floor for playing or even hung up on the wall. (They would also make nice baby gifts.)

Thoughts? Which do you like? Any other recommendations?

P.S. Sweet crib sheets, and great wallpaper for children’s rooms.

  1. I love blankets so much! There’s something about a cozy pretty blanket that makes you feel taken care of even when you’re an adult

Another really cool idea – Learn how to make your own heirloom quilt. There’s a wonderful place in Portland Oregon where you can gather, take a small intimate class, socialize, learn new skills, have a fun night out and go home with a beautiful quilt. I’ve taken many classes from Modern Domestic and it’s a truly wonderful experience. I’ve made so many new friends doing it, it’s a really neat community.

Their Friday night sewcials are really neat too!

Such a lovely selection! I have been keeping my eye on Sessions & Co. too, who are launching soon and are making BEAUTIFUL quilts and other products for children in collaboration with illustrators. Their insta is gorgeous… https://www.instagram.com/sessions_and_co/

Perfect timing! I am on the hunt for a twin sized quilt for my baby’s nursery (I love quilts vs duvets). I’d like it to be mountain, tree, or woodland animal themed (and don’t love the Hanna Andersson one). Any recs?

I use a Hanna Andersson quilt on my bed and love it, machine washable and it just gets softer.

Have you tried Etsy? They have some great options!!

the only thing cuter than a sleeping baby is a sleeping baby with a sleeping puppy

  8. I have to mention my mom Tonna aka NorskQuilter’s work… (www.instagram.com/norskquilter) She’s quilts and teaches a method called “One Block Wonder Quilts” that look like the most beautiful kaleidoscopes. All her work on IG are up for sale and she takes special requests like colorways and sizes!

  9. As a quilter, I truly appreciate you linking to handmade quilts. Those are great price points for a handmade quilt as well. Learned something new with the ShopDignify as well.

A handmade quilt is the best shower gift. Get to know a quilter and find something great for the next baby in your life.

  10. I love these! We’re FINALLY finishing a renovation on our new apartment in Nice, France and I’ve been looking at different quilts for the girls beds. I love how minimalist and feminine the pink blush quilt is. It reminds me of one I was looking at in Zara Home for kids, but that is much nicer!

No way! Perfect timing! I just started my first Christmas quilt a few weeks ago!
My Mom has been quilting for as long as I know and I’ve used her old fabrics; some are at least 30 years old and she even bought one of the fabrics in Africa, which I love!
My next plan is a quilt with Michael Miller’s Star Magic Glow in the dark fabric. It’s a wonderful fabric for kids.
Thanks for this post! XO from the Netherlands.

omg that constellation one! that is too beautiful. handmade and the best part is my daughter was born in October and it depicts the October night sky! I’m in love!

  14. Beautiful selection, thank you so much for including our Regatta sailboat quilt! x

lucindawalker.com – modern quilter, artist. She made my daughters quilt, based on her impressions of my grandmother’s Virginia home.

These are all lovely. So much white, though! Am I the only mama whose babies spit up and pooped copiously on all light-colored things?! Keepin’ it real. 😉 I say, if you want this quilt to be an heirloom, get one with lots of busy prints in it so you won’t see any stains!

I made quilts for babies #1 and #2. The girls are still waiting for their mama-made ones…maybe they’ll get them by the time they turn 10!

  17. My mom is a quilter (https://maplemoontextiles.com) and she made my daughter (her first grandchild) an incredible quilt with fabric she dyed herself with natural dyes (onion skins, avocado pits, fern, etc.) It is such a special keepsake! I love the muted, soft look of natural dyes. Another quilter I love is Maura Ambrose– she also uses all natural dyes in her work and her quilts are beautiful: https://www.folkfibers.com/collections/all

All so lovely. I’ve actually been searching for a quilt or coverlet for my own king bed and am constantly jealous of the baby/kids ones! Always softer and many more organic options. If anyone can recommend an organic/sustainable/ethical coverlet/quilt for adults would love to hear!!!

These are SO beautiful and sweet for toddlers! When my baby was little we used sleep sacks though!

I fell in love with a quilt that my sister-in-law made for our niece one Christmas.
Soooo… I signed up for a class while I was pregnant and I just finished my fourth quilt while working full time. My daughter is almost one and it’s great seeing her snuggled up in one. They are not as hard as you think to make (there are even precuts of fabric!) and it’s so fun picking patterns and fabric colors!

      that is so beautiful, lauren!

We now give these mini Kantha blankets from to new babies we love. So many different, beautiful colours! They are super soft and warm. Also, they are hand-made by women in Bangladesh – women employed by an organization that provides safe work for a good wage, as well as education, healthcare and daycare. Worth supporting esthetically AND ethically.

Kantha fabric is so soft and beautiful! I have a kantha ring-sling by KanthaBae and I LOVE it. My daughter still rides in it at 20 months! It doubles as a beautiful accessory because the colors are so bright and pretty, and make whatever boring outfit I’m wearing instantly better.

  22. AprilTwoEighty quilts are beautiful gifts for parents-to-be, newlyweds, and as housewarming gifts (www.apriltwoeightyquilts.com). Any of these would be great hanging on the back of a rocking or nursing chair or as picnic blankets!

  23. Ooh I love this! I can never have enough quilts in my life! For me or the kids. Thanks so much for featuring our Radish baby quilt! xoxo

  24. Emma says...

Beautiful quilts, but that little bunny in the top photo beats them all!

  25. Kassie says...

I’m not a baby, nor do I know many babies, but I want these quilts for myself! So cute!

  26. Such lovely pieces. Really enjoying the baby content.
