Have a Great Weekend.

Have a Great Weekend

What are you up to this weekend? The boys are on spring break, so we are lucky enough to be in Austin visiting friends for a few days. It’s so gorgeous here, and so far we’ve had tacos for every meal. Hope you have a good one, and here are a few fun links from around the web…

This song is on repeat at our house right now.

A news anchor reacts delightfully after forgetting she’s on air.

Should airports have circular runways? This was weirdly fascinating.

Seven things I wish I’d known before my divorce.”

I finally nabbed a copy of this funny book, and it makes my heart sing. I’d highly recommend it.

The most underrated place in each U.S. state. (Do you agree?)

A silky top that’s perfect for work and otherwise.

That’s it, Jeffery and Ina are officially adorable.

The trailer for Catastrophe’s Season 3.

If I were a ballerina.

Plus, two great reader comments:

Says Mel on traveling with kids: “My best tip is to travel with kids. The more they do it, they better they get at it.”

Says G. on first dates: “One of my favorite features is the Guardian’s Blind Date section. The newspaper sets up two strangers and sends them on a paid blind date, then publishes their responses to a quiz – it’s fun and fascinating, and the couples are super brave.”

Have a good one. xoxo

  1. Well Hello You !
I lost you back a while ago, when I wasn’t looking your blog seemed to have gone into hiding.
Now I have lots of lovely catching up to do.

GOLDEN SLUMBERS! Yes! That song (and the entire Sing soundtrack) have also been on repeat in our home lately! I could listen to Jennifer Hudson sing the phone book. So powerful and lovely!

    • Cora says...

We too have been listening to the soundtrack on repeat. My daughters then became fascinated with the Stevie Wonder, Elton John, and Beatles original songs. My 8 year old has been singing Golden Slumbers a lot lately and it always makes me smile. Oh, and I think I’ll be adding Set it All Free to my running mix, I can’t get it out of my head!

  3. My husband thinks Ina’s Cooking for Jeffery actually is titled Cooking for Jon. I do think one of the best gifts you can give someone is to cook for them, so on a night when I’d be fine eating cereal, I’ll make an effort and make something for the two of us. Seeing other’s eating and enjoying the food you made is so rewarding!

I’ve been to two of the underrated destinations (St. Augustine in FL and Cedar Point in OH). While they are both great, and I’d recommend that people visit them, they are not underrated or well-kept local secrets by any stretch. I think the article was more click bait than anything.

  5. ES says...

I read the Guardian Blind Dates column also! It’s funny.

  6. Oooh! SO happy about Catastrophe Season 3. LOVE that show ;)

  7. Maggie says...

Florida’s most underrated place is my hometown, St. Augustine! It is definitely underrated and so very beautiful. Love to see my little town get some spotlight.

  8. I just wanted to say how much I’m loving the inclusion of the reader comments each week in this Friday post. It’s been a great editorial addition :-) I really think Cupofjo has some of the most thoughtful readers on the Internet!

  9. That Blind Date section in the Guardian is brilliant. Thanks for the recommendation!

  10. Leah says...

I agree with the underrated place in Virginia. I grew up near there. In fact, my grandfather was a night watchman at the old ferry dock before it became a state park, years and years ago. When I was a little girl, we used to take him dinner down there at night and it was so spooky. I’ve always thought the concrete ships were kind of spooky, too.

  11. Kate says...

Do yourself a favor and also pick up “Textbook Amy Krouse Rosenthal.” I just finished it and it is a book like no other!! I was so happy to see the link to this book – I’ve been trying to find it. Thank you!

  12. justine says...

Inspired me to put on Abbey Road, thanks! Hope you guys have a great time away this weekend.

  13. Anna says...

Possibly the best thing about the Guardian Blind Date column is its weekly take-down by The Guyliner, whose blog is all kinds of low-key genius. Anyone who’s now hooked on the column should check it out: https://impeccabletablemanners.theguyliner.com/

  14. Bethany Dicken says...

All of the eye rolls to the person that decided Bozeman is underrated. If you’ve spent time in MT you know that it’s one of the trendiest (and bigger) towns in our rural state. Maybe try Butte for underrated.. it gets a bad rap all the time but has a super fascinating history (it was bigger than NY during the copper boom), good whiskey and an intact speakeasy.

    • Sasha says...

I whole heartedly agree, Butte would be #1 on my underrated MT list. Helena, Missoula, Livingston too. But maybe not even a town…the Missouri Breaks, or Makoshika park, or the Absarokas if you really want an amazing MT experience.

  15. Meghan says...

Catastrophe is the funniest (and very underrated!) show on TV- cannot wait for season 3!!

  16. Ina Landry says...

Okay, this kinda freaked me out…my name is Ina and yep, my husband’s name is Jeff, but we are not this couple. What are the chances?!!!

  17. Em says...

Funny enough, I have plans to visit my state’s “most underrated place” this weekend! (Bellingham, Washington). We’re going for a hike there to enjoy the lovely sunny weather we’re supposed to get this weekend which is a rarity and precious commodity here in Seattle).

    • C says...

Wonderful! Go to the farmers market on saturday and check out the food there..Cafe Vavilov is tops! The Horseshoe was def an odd place to highlight! Have fun!

  18. rach says...

Ok….Jeffery and Ina’s wedding pictures = cutest thing I’ve seen in a LONG time.

  19. Candice says...

Yes, that song is amazing! Jennifer Hudson always blows me away! I’ve been singing it all week :)

  20. I called it – NY’s Finger Lakes are definitely underrated! Letchworth State Park is a must see. It’s called the Grand Canyon of the East for good reason.

  21. I CANNOT wait for Catastrophe :)

Gotta say, I was pretty disappointed in the underrated pick for my state. I mean, the Indianapolis zoo? Seems a little lazy. Then again, there’s not a whole lot going on in Indiana, even to be underrated, but I would have gone with the Indiana Dunes. Because beaches.

    • Katie says...

Hi from a fellow Hoosier!! I agree. I would have gone with Bloomington or maybe even Nashville, IN? Then again, I’m totally biased as a proud IU grad :)

  22. Bonnie says...

St. Augustine, Florida, also is one of the top tourist destinations in Florida after theme parks … I was expecting some small nook town on the Gulf Coast of the state, not the longest continuously inhabited city in the state that’s mobbed in the summer and a history buff destination at other times.

    • Eileen says...

Yeah, we’ve been in Florida 12 years, I don’t buy it either. I might have bought Sanibel Island. Even though it’s getting a bit more touristy than I like, it’s beautiful and beach which is what most people want from FL.

  23. Cait says...

I loved the ballet article – hilarious. I danced when I was younger and whenever I watch any kind of arts, particularly ballet or musical theatre, I feel such an intense wish to be part of it. It’s like when you finish an epic story and wish it was inside of you or you were the main character or something. I don’t know what I would have actually accomplished, but both of those things make me wish, maybe especially because I wonder if I actually could have made it!

  24. Sasha says...

I’m so curious to hear others weigh in about the best underrated spot in their states. For mine, Montana, it was, frankly ridiculous. They chose my town, which is just silly to be on an underrated list, it’s the most visited town in my state, the only town many people have even been to or heard of and one that is over run with tourists two seasons of the year. So many places would have been better for this list. And the pizza place they list isn’t even any good (there really isn’t any excellent pizza here, so why they chose pizza???).

    • Laura says...

For Ohio… Cedar Point amusement park. Sort of generic, and definitely well known by Ohioans. But like the article says maybe it’s underrated among non-Ohioans. I think I went there as a kid but can’t remember.

    • Annie says...

I completely agree! I lived in Bozeman for 6 years, and it is the opposite of underrated! It’s pretty odd that it would be included on this kind of a list in my opinion.

  25. Denise says...

OMG, that ballerina article! That’s how I feel about surfing! I just know – despite never having tried – that I’d be a kick ass surfer. I watch all the surf films and am insanely confident I could star & do my own surf stunts. Except not Blake Lively and the shark situation. No, safe surfing only. Close to shore. Mostly on the sofa.

    • KylieO says...

      Hahahaha! ?

  26. Mariana says...

I live in Houston but spent quite a bit of time in Austin. If you have a moment, I’d recommend grabbing the cacio and pepe at Patrizi’s – a food stand/truck. Great place to stop by if the weather’s nice and you can let the kids run around. Enjoy!

    • Alma says...

I’ve loved Date Lab for years! There’s even been at least one marriage from it too.

    • Stephanie says...

      I LOVE date lab!

  27. Rose says...

I had to chuckle at the underrated places in each state- the state I grew up in listed St. George, which I can assure you anyone from Utah loves and it’s very hyped. The state I live in now listed the Finger Lakes, which I am moving back to NYC from in two months and can’t wait to leave (it’s seriously like middle of nowhere midwest here, if you come for a wine tour you’ll have to stay in either a $300/night hotel or a creepy b&b on a murdery farm).

  28. I grew up in Auburn, MA right next to Worcester and I totally agree that it’s the most underrated place in MA! The city has had such a revival in the past decade.

  29. Lo says...

That photograph feels so calming to me.

Thanks for great links, and the great week of content!

  30. It’s true that I’ve never been to Voyageurs National Park in my own state of Minnesota, but I have driven the entire Enchanted Highway in North Dakota and it’s awesome. I would also love to go to the Music Museum in S. Dakota someday.

  31. the ballerina nyer post is great

  32. Amy says...

Oh no. I’m going down a rabbit hole with G.’s comment about the Guardian’s Blind Date section. So much fun to read.

    • Julie says...

      Can. Not. Stop.

  33. Emily R says...

Jeffrey and Ina are just the best.

  34. Julie says...

Yes to the underrated list! While scrolling I was hoping Chattanooga would be the Tennessee pick. :) When I moved here 5 years ago I didn’t realize it used to be the most polluted city in the U.S. — now it’s vibrant, artistic, and SO lovely almost year-round.

  35. Samantha says...

Oh my goodness… Ina & Jeffery. I’m actually over here crying. And then my husband tells me I’m his Ina. Now I’m sobbing.

  36. Melanie says...

My favorite clothing brand – Esby. Chic, designed in Austin, made in the USA.

  37. Baltina says...

Tacos all day and sunshine what a great spring break!! Sad to hear the news anchor was fired she was seriously great with the recovery. Also I live in Bellingham it really is the best town, such a cool relaxed vibe. We are Wisconsinites loving the PNW and this sweet little town.

Happy spring break and Easter hope you guys have a blast!! Love these round-ups.

  38. that anchor is so adorable! and i’ve never even heard of our underrated attraction in minnesota, so it must be seriously, seriously underrated.

  39. Brianna says...

Reno got voted the most underrated place in Nevada and I’d definitely agree, although the city is definitely coming into its own.

  40. Amy says...

    Welcome to Austin! Move here!

  41. Lacey says...

That poor news anchor! The article was updated to say she was canned over the gaffe. :(
