Apples are one of the most versatile fruits — their tartness complements everything from spiced pies to salty cheese. So, today, we round out our month of apples with a savory flatbread from Sarah of A Saucy Kitchen. With only five ingredients and a speedy bake time, this recipe makes fall meals a breeze. Here’s how to whip it up…
Apple and Goat Cheese Flatbread
By Sarah Nevins of A Saucy Kitchen
This flatbread combines seasonal ingredients with minimal effort. The sweetness of the apple pairs wonderfully with the creaminess of the cheese and the crunchiness of the pecans. Bake on a pizza stone for an even crispier base and serve warm or at room temperature. Enjoy this as a light lunch, or serve as an appetizer at your next party.
Recipe: Apple and Goat Cheese Flatbread
Serves 1-2
You’ll need:
1 8-inch flat bread or pizza crust
One handful of arugula
1/2 an apple, cut into thin slices
1 oz goat cheese, crumbled
Crumbled pecans
Olive oil for drizzling
Heat your oven to 400F. Place the flatbread on the middle of a baking tray and top with the arugula, apple slices, cheese and pecans and bake for 10 minutes.
Top with additional arugula and a drizzle of olive oil. Serve immediately.
Thank you so much, Sarah!
P.S. More recipes, including arugula salad with halloumi and white pizza with eggs.

I’ve made this twice since you posted it. It’s such a hit with guests because it parts from the usual sauce-heavy pizzas.
This looks fantastic and so simple! I adore goat cheese and actually have so many apples left over from apple picking with he kids, I’m sure this would be a crowd pleaser at our home! I feel like shredded chicken would be a great addition on top as well! Anyone else have a husband who thinks no meal is a real meal without some form of meat?? Lol.
This looks sooooo delicious! Such a nice, comforting recipe for the cooler, fall weather! Can’t wait to give this one a try!

Really a great combination for a flatbread, I have to try it soon! Thanks!
Such a great combination. I love fruit and cheese together especially in the fall. One of my favorite salads has pears and blue cheese: http://www.mangotomato.com/2010/10/what-ive-been-busy-cooking-elsewhere.html.
That looks delicious!

I made this tonight and it was so yummy! I also drizzled honey and added prosciutto and walnuts (instead of pecans…it’s what I had on hand). For flatbread, we made this Pamela’s recipe to make it gluten free (http://bit.ly/2eHXV8n). It was great. My husband said “so…can we make this every night?” :)
I’ve been mildly obsessed with drizzling spicy honey on pizza even though I’m not a huge honey fan. Somehow it offsets the saltiness of the cheese and goes so well with other ingredients.
This looks so good, I love the idea of using apple

Oops- apples! Pears would be amazing too!
Goat cheese… like feta?
Feta would probably work but I think the author intends for chevre, a softer, milder, and less salty goat cheese. It’s usually sold in a log shape.
Isn’t feta made from sheep’s milk?
This is genius.
Oh heck yes! This looks fabulous!
Fantastic food… Very inviting and my appetite already wet for it, lol.. Apples are my favorite and I basically eat it in different forms and varieties.

This looks so good. I love flatbread, despite the fact that it makes me feel like such a cliche girl- reminds me of this comedy sketch!
