Love reading your blog! Wow, I can relate the “would you every sleep in different beds?” video. Wrote about it a few weeks ago & received some interesting feedback. It happened to us on a trip…and I admit I kind of liked it! My 18 year old daughter and I just found that aging couple video to be incredibly moving. Very cool project.

I hope your sister in law lives in Decatur…all my favorite restaurants are there. Best: Kimball House. Not far behind: Cakes & Ale. 246. Great place for craft cocktails: Pinewood. All of these within walking distance..which is normal for NYC, but a big deal for Atl.

The home makeover is gorgeous, but I wish they’d use the same natural light for the “after” shots! Clearly they flooded the rooms with light when they were shooting. That’s the biggest misconception in interior design: paint everything white, and it will look like you live in California year-round. In truth, white paint on the walls of a dark room will still look gloomy and grey. Otherwise, a beautiful and inspiring post.

Marietta Diner! While not the best, it’s the coolest! Check it out.

not sure what neighborhood you’ll be in, but bookhouse pub is a delight. Outdoor seating and very nice cocktails!

This comment feed makes me want to take a vacation to Atlanta. The comments here from all the cup of jo ladies make it sound like the best foodie town!

The grilled octopus at Kimball House in Decatur is one of the best meals I’ve ever eaten. The Pinewood (also in Decatur) makes amazing drinks and a mean chicken and waffles. Enjoy your trip!

OMG – yes! ATL is a GREAT food town! Go to the Buckhead Diner and order some of their house-made potato chips with blue cheese drizzled over them. And for Sunday brunch, sit outside, riverside, at Canoe. The food is AMAZING and the sight is beautiful!

And Noche in the Virginia-Highland area has amazing Southern tapas. Fantastic! Enjoy!

Tacqueria is great like everyone has said!! I’d also recommend Murphy’s in Virginia Highlands! Also, The Pie Shop in Buckhead is simply amazing–y’all could stop by for a slice or pick one up as a hostess gift–it’s right off of Roswell Road but it’s tucked away on the backside of the little strip it’s in so it’s definitely a hidden gem! Have a great trip, I love Atlanta!

Your weekend sounds like fun! I hope you guys have a wonderful time. We are taking a road trip to Southern California which I am super excited about. I get to see my family and go to the beach! The drive down from Nor Cal to So Cal will be an adventure with Luna, but we gots this!

Kaling & Novak’s book—can’t wait! I vote No to sleeping in separate beds. I want a dog now too…
Plastic plants in the bathroom—Yes! And we can’t kill them! Its a win-win. Depression sucks, and I hope everyone can see a light shining through the gray clouds!

A lot of great recommendations. I second Kimball House in Decatur and Krog Market in Inman park. In addition to restaurants, come to the Atlanta Jazz Festival happening this weekend in Piedmont Park! It’s free and on the belt line where a lot of good restaurants are located. My fiancé (who just got into Columbia!) and I will be moving up to NYC this summer and would love to know some of your favorite spots. Enjoy your time in ATL!

OMG!!! You’re coming to Atlanta. I just graduated from Emory last week!!

The High Museum has an outdoor installation going on right now (free) that would be great to have a picnic at. This is also the last weekend to see their surrealist art exhibit. I also second Alina’s recommendation for downtown Decatur; it’s pretty fun to just walk around with a coffee and there are always lots of kids playing.

Here are some recommendations (in no particular order):
– Tabla (nice Indian restaurant in midtown)
– Intermezzo (you can go here late night for drinks and a huge selection of beautiful desserts!)
– Babette’s Cafe (“rustic European”)
– Sear (inside the Marriot)
– Across The Street (crab enchiladas!!!)
– Zyka (very cheap and delicious Indian restaurant in Decatur)

So jealous you’re going to the ATL! We moved there when I was about half way through my first pregnancy and our first baby Alec was born there. Atlanta will always hold a special place in our hearts!

If you’re an Indigo Girls fan, or just want a really southern meal, go to Emily Saliers restaurant Watershed! Also – Bricktops in Buckhead is sort of randomly a really great restaurant. We used to go at least once a week. Kobe sliders, warm artichoke dip and the world’s best veggie burgers!

ATL! Empire State South, The Optimist, and I love love love the Brickstore in Decatur. By far my favorite pub. And you have to get a King of Pops popsicle to save you from the heat! The Grapefruit and Basil pop is my fav.

Of all these recommendations, I like Kim’s the best. I’m an atmosphere snob, and all of those feel modern + cool with good food. If you’re in decatur, No. 246 is my favorite. And the Beltline is Atlanta’s version of the High Line, so that’s fun to walk and Ladybird is right on the beltline which has fantastic drinks + vibe (and decent food). Have fun!

Joanna, I am a very loyal reader from atlanta…would like to echo Star Provisions, on the west side in a great neighborhood, next door to Jeni’s ice cream, which you and the kids will DROOL OVER. I also highly recommend a new place called The Gunshow…it’s chef Kevin Gillespie, who uses all fresh, seasonal ingredients, and it’s a kind of “southern food dim sum”…the chefs even bring the food around on dim sum carts!!!
