Have you guys heard that Mindy Kaling will star in a new sitcom this fall? “The Mindy Project” is all about a quirky OB/GYN who’s trying to figure out her messy dating life. As Salon points out, the premise sounds pretty typical, but Kaling is so awesome and funny (and Emmy-nominated) that the show sounds promising. Here’s the trailer. Will you be watching the show?

I’m also going to opt out on this. I think it’s funny that Mindy Kaling so adeptly pointed out the cliche female characters portrayed in movies and shows, but she can’t step outside of them. A doctor that ditsy is a doctor I would never go to.
Sorry, it might end up being a funny show, but it just comes across as an unsophisticated copy of Australian tv show Offspring…. which is about a quirky OB/GYN navigating her messy love life. I’m surprised Kaling can’t come up with an original idea.
I’m pretty sure her mom is an OB/GYN so it’s kind of fun that she is playing one. I assume she is writing the show as well? I bet she gets a lot of material from her mom!
I always give the new shows a whirl and see if I like them…thanks for letting me know of a new one to try! :)

Oh dear, just another cliche, overdone romantic comedy/desperate girl/doctor show. Guess I’m in the minority for thinking it but seriously. Things like this make me glad we don’t have tv in our house.
This just doesn’t look good. There were some funny jokes but something was just very ‘off’ in this trailer…I don’t know if it’s Mindy as lead character, or the direction maybe?
I think this looks hilarious! I’ve been pleasantly surprised by New Girl, which has actually only gotten better IMO since it first aired and I think this one is going to be a great addition.
awesome! it seems right up my alley! I hope that other office cast members make guest appearances too, I’d love to see BJ Novak or John Krasinski as her potential love interests. :)

I just saw the trailer for this on hulu yesterday!! I’m really curious about it!! I think it will be a tad ridiculous but her acting is just so natural (in an over the top way- if that makes sense).
So glad I’ll still get to see her on a weekly basis after The Office ends next year. I loved her book too. This show seems similar to Hart of Dixie (anyone else watch that?) but its Mindy so it looks really funny and quirky. I can’t wait!
I will at least try it since I love her. I just finished her book. She is hilarious. I actually was going to just buy it on my iPad but I was at the bookstore meeting a friend and randomly picked it up and after five pages I was laughing so much that I had to buy it. Does this mean she’s leaving the office? I need Kelly Kapoor in my life too.

Totally unrelated to this post, but LOVED your picture and short article in the recent Whole Living magazine–beautiful! I’ve been following your blog for awhile and what a fun surprise to find you and your family at the end of the magazine :)
I love Mindy and will watch anything she does. Also, you recommended New Girl, which I love (and I subsequently told all my girlfriends and they all love. So you have a pretty good TV recommendation tract record.
I’ll be honest…I didn’t like her voice at all at first but she is so funny & hilarious & true to herself making her totally AWESOME!! I have to check out her show! I want to read her book too!! =)
Emily, totally what I was thinking! New Girl + the Office! It does seem like the other shows out there, but I’m sure it’ll be funny… although I don’t know if I can get my boyfriend to watch with me. haha
Her mother is an OB/GYN, so that makes sense. Actually, I read online that her mother passed away in late January–is this true?? If so, I feel so bad for Mindy. She seems really close to both of her parents in her book (which I too loved).
