Do you ever use bookmarks? I end up using scraps of paper and receipts, but this book hook would be a real step up. It would transform your book into a piece of art on your nightstand.

This is a great site full of great content. I love coming to this blog kindle 3g review
I always use lovely postcards that my family and friends have sent tome or that I have bought on holiday. :)
What a simple yet stunning idea!

LOVE THIS. I have so many books it’d be neat to have more than one of those and maybe mount them? AH! So cool.
good point about ruining the binding, i hadn’t thought of that. maybe just for paperbacks, then? xo andrea, i love that your dad made you one!
Ohhhhh! I like that bookstand thingy. Like it a LOT! -lbs
I love the painting! Did you do that? And I love the bookmark, that would totally keep my place for sure!haha
I am a somewhat new follower. I would be honored if you would follow me on my blog. :)
love it!! i like to use the perfume samples from magazines… ;)
so many kindle users! i too still have books. i like the tangible quality, and i admit i’m too lazy to use a bookmark or even TP; i just fold over the page. what are your favorite books? do you ever read “self-help”? i just wrote an entry on “books we’re embarrassed to read” –
http://amyrosenthal.blogspot.com/2011/09/books-were-embarrassed-to-read.html
thanks for being such a huge inspiration joanna!
i love caitlin’s artistry!
i use small notes and gift tags as bookmarks. some are so pretty and i love to be reminded of people who are special to me. also when i’m out of town and have time, i love to browse independent bookstores. most of them have custom complimentary cardstock bookmarks by the register and they are a great momento of places i’ve been. xo!
i love the book hook! i currently use bookmards. i probably have about 50 of them.
This is so cool! I always end up using receipts.
When I’m feeling like a baller I use dollar bills. :)
This is beautiful but looks like it might destroy the book’s spine.
Before my Kindle, I dog-eared my pages. I know a lot of people hate that, but I think it’s a sign of a well-loved book!
That’s amazing! I always seems to put some old post-its to bookmark and it’s really stressful!
Doesn’t that damage a book though ?
I’m in the not-on-the-spine camp. This looks like it would wreck a book.
i saw this same book hook photo online a few months ago and my step-dad (a carpenter) made me one! i use it ALL the time. my boyfriend started stealing it so much he made us another!
<3
Oh man, please don’t ever store a book like this! You would completely destroy the spine.
I love it. Plus it would probably inspire me to read all the classics I keep meaning to read since it’d be on display.
how brilliant! how the heck do people have such great ideas!
Ah, that’s a perfect bookmark! Thanks for sharing this great find with us!
That’s awesome! I’m like you, I just use scraps of paper, receipts, etc.
Neat!
Ooh I love it. I usually just use scraps of paper or a post it note.
Cute, but I like to take my book around with me everywhere so that wouldn’t really work. But maybe for the Bible or something I would just keep always on my nightstand.
I love that!
I never use book marks…just try to remember the page number. But I would use that!

I love this idea! wow, that is so cute, too!
Smoking Crayolas Blogspot
I love that! That seems like such a so much better idea than a random scrap of paper that I usually use for my bookmarks but in essence it gets the job done so no complaints there, but I want one!
I love the idea of this! I am a history professor, and so frequently have several books open and scattered around me at once. I never have book marks, so either I stick post-its on pages I want to come back to or I leave them open upside down, while I cross my fingers that my spot won’t get lost. These would make great holiday presents for all the grad school students in your life…
I really like this idea! It’s kind of chic. Right now I just turn over the page corners… my books often come away from me looking a little loved. :)
Oh man I LOVE this idea! No more dog-eared corners! Perfect. :)
Cool find, however I cannot see myself using one of these. I am a dog-earer.
What a great idea (although with the dozen books or so piled on my night stand, I don’t think I would have room!). I have a great leather bookmark given to me by my best friend that has a window for a photo so I have all of my kids staring back at me while I read! (find these from Budd Leather and Peahead)
Ingenious…and gorgeous to look at! I may have to invest in one…as I always manage to lose my bookmarks!
The design is so simple and yet so brilliant! Love it!

This really is a nice idea! I mostly try to remember which page I was on, which works mostly, although I sometimes end up reading the same paragraph twice.
brilliant!! i am forever dog earing my books which don’t keep them looking nice! i love this
i dont use a book mark. i just ‘dog ear’ the page. i have two kids, so when i do get a chance to read i am constantly having to put the book down…. every page has a dog ear crease in the corner! ;)
x
Love that! I always use bookmarks and really like making DIY ones by snipping the corners off of old card envelopes. If you’re feeling fancy, you can use scalloped craft scissors or add a pretty stamp. You end up with a cute little bookmark that fits onto the top corner of your page.
I think this would be really cute but only if your book was as pretty as the one in the picture. With a ratty, dog-eared paperback, I doubt this would look as nice. Also, I’m curious, couldn’t this damage the book spine?
oh! my 8 yo would absolutely love and cherish that book stand/hook!
holiday gift!
-joya
I always use the subscription cards from magazines OR, if I’m feeling super crazy, I’ll grab an old picture of my family to look at :) but never bookmarks…this thing, I WOULD use, however…
My husband uses toilet paper.. mostly cause he’s reading in the bathroom.
My husband folds the page over….it drives me nuts!!!!
actually love this! i must invest in one.
I cut the paper perfume samples out of magazines and use those as bookmarks!
-bronwyn
It’s beautiful. I usually use sticky post-it notes but somehow I always lose them by the time I’m ready to close my book:) hahah
Have a great day, Joanna
I like that a lot!
i use the bookmarks that i get from renting my textbooks for school. they’re just paper that says “cash for books” haha
kate
oh man – this is really neat! i love books and i love smart design.
The librarian in me is screaming “NOOOOO, NOT THE SPINE!!!”. But the girl in me is saying “Pretty!”. For the paperbacks in one’s life, this would be okay, however I would think twice before doing this to your beloved hardcovers and any library book you may check out.
this is so great. i’d love to get one of these.
I love this idea, what an innovative and creative take on a mundane requirement. It will be going on my Christmas list – pronto!
Very cool. Only problem for me i that I work on so many books at once, I would have to have a room full of book hooks!
I generally lose bookmarks and consequently end up using receipts and old bus tickets as substitutes.
While I love the idea of chic and aesthetically pleasing book mark, I don’t think I would use it. My books are my treasures, and a big part of me cringes at the damage being done to the spine. It’s like the physical reaction I have when I see readers folding the front pages of the book all the way to the back. I want to scream out, ‘Don’t hurt the book!’ Don’t worry; I never have. (Yet.)
I am admittedly very precise when it comes to my own collection and any poor person who seeks to borrow a piece is subjected to a long list of rules. The rules usually put them off borrowing the book at all. On the plus side, I usually buy people books to bend or not bent as they see fit. I think it’s a good compromise. :)
This is cool, but I feel like it would be quite damaging to the spines of books if it was used consistently.
WOW! I really like that!! Thanks for sharing it.
This wouldn’t work at all if you were on ,say, page 6 of a hefty paperback. It would just slide off!
I love this! I use to-do lists (it’s easier than actually doing them) or I fold down the pages, which just hurts my little nerdy heart. My poor books!
i love using and re-using ticket stubs. my favorite is when i open up an old, unfinished book and find a metro stub or business card from a city or foreign country i went to years ago.
I read on my Kindle – if I do read a paper book I fold the page or use one of the magazine subscription cards that tumble out of Real Simple or Martha Stewart.
I’m always using scraps too, but this is a genius idea for the nightstand or coffee table!
I do use bookmarks – just because there’s so many cute ones. I really like the magnet ones that you use to just clip to your page. The book hook is pretty handy too though. =)

I always think i’ll remember the page number I’m on in the morning, but never do!
i sometimes fold the page of the book, but i hate doing that..these book marks are so cute!
Awesome idea, wish I’d had that before I had my kindle!
This is great! Do you know that one?

also a nice idea.
Greetings from sunny London
Although this would be beautiful on a nightstand, I shudder to think what that narrow point is doing to the book’s delicate spine.
So Pretty!
Not a reader but my husband is… this is a rather nice looking bookstand/marker!
