Maxi skirts are everywhere this spring. I’m in love with this green striped number. What do you think about this trend, my lovelies? Would you wear a maxi skirt? Thumbs up or thumbs down?

I think Maxi Skirts are great!
TWO thumbs up :)
My thumbs are both up right now! I love that it’s free international shipping too. That rocks!
If only I was taller… or I live in Tokyo.
Unfortunately, maxi skirts haven’t become a trend in Manila since I was born. Maybe because of the weather. But I would love to wear them someday without people giving me strange looks. ;)
Cute!
nope
i think u have to be near anorexic to be able to wear them and not look stupid
You can wear them well if you have loooong legs. If you have regular legs, you may pull it off if you wear heels. When you have short legs (like me!), maxi-skirts are an absolute no-no!
thumbs up! i wore a floral 70s style one today. ive been wearing them a lot and love that they cover my legs! i really love the one in your post!
Ugh. Just…ugh. I’ve been a long-time lurker but I had to come out to post on this. Every time I see this trend I am reminded of Bob Jones University (Google it). The girls are required to wear long skirts like this (among other…things), and so in our city these things are synonymous with a special kind of crazy. I know that’s kind of a local weirdness that may not translate to the blogosphere, but Jon Stewart made fun of BJU on The Daily Show several times, so maybe others will get it, too!
PS love your blog and sorry for the rant!
Comfy – yes, flattering – no. It’s hard to pull off horizontal stripes around the thighs, add to that the bubble shape. Hmmm . . . I’d think about it in black :)
Go for it if you’ve got the height! Actually does it really matter what other people think?
I’m not crazy about this particular maxi skirt, but I love the more flow-y kind. So comfy, yet pretty and feminine too! And I don’t have to worry about flashing anyone when I’m running around with my little boy!
There was a time where I had the “thunder thighs” idea and thought I could never pull this off, but a simple, solid gray jersey maxi skirt converted me. So comfortable and it really does work. The trick is to find one with just the “right amount” of fabric. Not too much so to make you look like a bubble, and not too little where it would cling in bad places. Love them!
I am totally diggin’ the maxi skirts! What a better way to be trendy and yet comfortable at the same time? It’s awesome that you don’t have to be wearing something that’s uncomfortable in order to be beautiful :)
I say yes! ABSOLUTELY.
These might change people’s mind!

Thanks for sharing!
This is totally one of those so ugly it’s fashionable itemst. I have a love/hate relationship with that kinda stuff.
I’m really unsettled that so many people dislike maxi skirts. I was overjoyed to see them popping up in designer’s spring collections, as they are my favourite kind of skirt. They’re comfortable, flattering, and there’s no risk of it flying up in the wind and showing off your undies! I wear them alllll the time, I wish more people would. I want to keep this trend going.
a DEFINITE DO. so cute and so comfy.
helen :}
the daily nook!
definitely a thumbs up, although good styling is key!
Got a black maxi on today. Love! :) Super cozy + covers my pale legs.
I love the idea of these skirts, but for hippy ladies, such as myself, I wonder how well they will fit and flow? I guess this calls for a shopping trip to try some on!
thumbs up if youre mc hammer or the prince of persia.
else, thumbs down.
I love maxi skirts! They’re surprisingly breezy, so you can wear them even in the middle of summer. Definite do!
Love maxi skirts! I have always worn them, ever since high school (I’m only 26 anyway, but you get what i mean…) and I’m 5’3″. I just don’t understand people who say short girls shouldn’t wear them. Who cares? Wear them if you like! It’s like long, stylish pajamas…so comfy.
rinda, they would look SO cute with a pregnant belly!!! i was trying one on yesterday and thinking that exact thing :)
UP! I am currently in search of the perfect one for a spring wedding coming up. It’s the perfect piece for transitioning into summer, because here in MN it’s still COLD for another month. So what’s a girl to do when she wants to look pretty but it’s too cold for short skits and dresses yet? I love the maxi trend and hope it stays for a while.
Maxi skirts all the way! I’m eight months pregnant and can’t wait to wear a maxi skirt this summer!
haha, good point, nicole!!
Ehhhhh… I mean, you can’t exactly ride your bike in one
Because I went to this site while hungry I focused on the “pantry” area and was particularly excited about the caramel sauce, chalkboard jam and basically everything else!
Beautiful website!
Lena
Was contemplating purchasing this exact piece, but I think it’s a definite yes for spring! xxx
I’m wearing one right now! LOL!
Thumbs up, especially if your legs are not “perfect”.
A big thumbs up for maxi skirts, I have about four on my wishlist at the moment! I think they’re a really good staple for day/evening wear for the summer. You can really dress them up or down!
I love the idea but don’t think it would work for me as I’m too short!!
Are you going to post a picture of you wearing your new maxi?
Maxi skirts, yes! This particular one, no! The stripes are really unflattering, the fabric is far too heavy and the shape is wrong. Personally I’d look for one in silk or a light jersey that drapes your figure rather than encases it. x
Thumbs down! on the Maxi skirts unless your 5’10 and above and really thin they don’t really look that good on. Now the maxi dresses that are sleeveless with the sort of low cut front and tie around the neck are a better look for other body types.
I love super long skirt. I’m 5’8″ and wear heels with them so I have no worry about looking stumpy. What I like best is in today’s world you can wear a mini one day and a maxi the next and it’s all okay. When I was growing up back in the ancient 70s, there was only one skirt length per season so everyone was in the same thing, whether it looked good on you or not!
Hmmm, I´ve never been able to pull off the maxi skirt, but I so admire the people that can do that :) So, go for it girl if you love it :)
xx Ivana
Honestly, I think it depends on the print and design! I think solid dark prints, and non bulky maxi skirts are a do! This one is cute on the model, but definitely a don’t on me!
I love them, but I am tall…
Personally, I’ve yet to see a maxi skirt look good on anyone, models or otherwise. I find that the tea length is much more flattering.
Thumbs Up!
I love the new one from H&M’s Concious Collection
and so far, I think Jessie from the Concrete Catwalk has worn it best:

Sooo thumbs up!!
I just spent the last month traveling around Asia and as an extremely fair girl with brown hair and blue eyes from Canada I got a lot of people starring, because lets face it I kinda stood out! (People would even whip out cameras and phones as I walked by to snap a shot, take a video, and occasionally ask me to pose!)
So I ended up wearing jeans as much as possible to hide my skin as a way to blend in. Not that it really fooled anyone but it made me feel a bit more comfortable with all the starring. I wish I had had a maxi skirt with me because it would have been so much more comfortable in the heat than the jeans I had with me. I now feel like a maxi skirt or dress is a must have in any wardrobe and will defiantly be picking on up this summer!!
Absolutely! Although I’m more of a maxi dress type o’ gal :)
Maxi skirts are so comfy! I recently bought to maxi dresses. Can’t wait to “estrenar” one of my dresses this weekend. Yay for maxi dresses!
For some reason, I’ve never been a fan of Maxi’s. I agree that they are not very flattering. Some people can pull them off, but unfortunately I am not one of them.
Love! As a short girl, the best advice that I have received on pulling off the “maxi” look is to make sure that the length hits at the ankle to prevent a stunted silhouette. I tried it out, and I believe that it works, don’t try to talk me out of it!!
ps. i ignored good sense and got a maxi skirt this afternoon at zara, eeps!
haha, sarah, i laughed out loud at your comment! love all this awesome and hilarious feedback.
thubs up, way up! Though I agree with Astrid – if you actually are tall, the skirts are always an inch or two shorter than you want them to be. =)
They have a certain novelty that’s appealing. I bought one last Fall and enjoy styling it in various ways.
Unfortunately for me it’s a don’t, I’m 5’5, I would look short and stumpy :(
To all the lucky girls who can pull it off, enjoy!!
xo
I’d say yes and no. I think it totally depends on the type of figure you have. I’m pretty short, so I don’t think I could pull it off. It probably would look great on taller women though!
if you have curves i don’t think this dress is for you.
for myself, thumbs WAY down. for someone tall and thin, thumbs up!!
<3
I never used to think they looked good until recently now I have several in different colours and patterns. They look so romantic and girlie. Thumbs up!
for me? thumbs down. some people can pull them off but i’m just way too short, at 4’10” i just shrink down to about two ft. i want to love the, i do. but we’re so wrong together.
I dont know. They certainly look good on all these petite and twig-like models and fashionistas.
I think you have to have a very small frame to pull it off (or be very flat chested). Any other body type just makes it look like a horror show.
i love them but i do find them extremely hard to wear! tuck in or leave out? heals or flats? and the length always feels to awkward — like it always feels too short! i wish!
i NEED one asap!! its hard to find a maxi skirt that isnt too tight
check out my new post! i think youll like it

thumbs WAY up!! i love this trend. i think skirts are way cooler in the summer time than shorts. like that green stripey one. i’ve done a number of posts about maxi skirts on my blog too.
xo
I think Maxi Skirts are great! You don’t have to worry about showing any “unmentionables” in them!
I like it and I think if it fits it can work on any shape! As long as it doesn’t cling and is flowy it’s beautiful!
TWO thumbs up :)
they are a doooo!!
i’m a HUGE fan!
i just posted on my blog three ways to wear a maxi i just purchased at target for $9! check it out!
Hmm- this model can pull it off, but it’s a don’t for me. I think it’s only a trend for the very thin or those who can figure out the tucked shirt combo; although I love a good maxi dress!
this season i like the very fitted striped dresses from edith miller and others. being very slim or very fit is definitely necessary to pull this off. during one of the previous revivals, i embraced some very special maxi skirts. this was probably 12+ years ago. i still have a burberry one that was gorgeous (when they were an old, stodgy, heritage brand) and a mayle one a few years later. i just can’t go there again myself!
double thumbs up!
Thumbs down. If you can pull it off they’re really pretty, but I don’t think they look good on me.
i think they can be cute as long as they’re not too tight or clingy. otherwise, they’re just unflattering. also, i think it depends on how tall you are.
I LOVE maxi skirts, but skirt in that photo makes the woman look like a Glowworm. Or like the hookah smoking caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland. Or like an adult Anne Geddes photo. Not good. Not good at all.
Way up, with the right skirt for your bod. So pretty!
