Guessing Game

My doctor said that at our next appointment–tomorrow–we should be able to find out if we’re having a boy or a girl. Alex and I are so excited and have been dying of curiosity. (And there are so many funny old wives’ tales!) So, want to take a little poll to see if we can guess? I’d love to hear your predictions — some people have awesome intuition!

We’ll have the real answer tomorrow, eeps! xoxo

  1. So excited to hear the news and oh my the poll is so close!

Just seems like yesterday when I found out I was having a girl, cannot believe she is 6 now.. and I remember so much that glucose drink and not letting me go tho the bathroom, LOL I was begging!!

  2. my sisters friend has a 100% successful rate in guessing if its a boy or a girl….

she’s only guessed it 6 times so far so it could just be chance!

  3. thank you, katie! and thanks for all these sweet comments — the appt is at 1:30, can’t wait!!!

  4. Speaking of babies, I couldn’t help but forward a link to my friend’s website (http://hapticlab.com/).

She makes Soft-Maps, what she calls “quilted maps of cities and neighborhoods that represent someone’s unique place in the world.” How sweet for a little one to be wrapped in a map of where they’re growing up?

All the best to you and Alex,
    Katie

  5. Congrats!

when i had my little one, we held out till the last moment to find out if it’s a boy or a girl. my husband was really sweet, he said to me:”life doesn’t give you many good surprises, let this be one…” and it was a beautiful girl :)

  6. Oh my goodness… How very exciting… Your so sweet to share all of this with us… But I have no idea, maybe that means your having one of each.. :)

  7. im saying boy too!! cant wait to hear your news!!

  8. I’m going to say boy because everyone I know is making boys these days! But either will be lovely and most welcome, of course.

  9. So excited for you either way, but I’m guessing boy : )

  10. I really really really think that your baby is going to be a little girl! I have been right with my cousins pregnancies (the ones that I have guessed on anyway) and I feel confident with my intution, but I know that whatever it is, you two will be super SUPER happy!
    Good Luck tomorrow!

  11. BTW – I also think you are having a boy, BUT, I had a girl and am now expecting a boy, and my parent’s elderly neighbor tells me, “First a daughter, then a son, then the whole world has begun.” Good luck tomorrow!

  12. I love that the poll is split 50/50. I have a boy feeling!

  13. Glenda says...

HI Joanna, I follow you on Smitten (GLSD) and have been reading your blog for a while. I’m so happy and excited for you as I know you really want a baby, so I’m wishing and praying that a healthy baby is #1. Having a son first and then a daughter guessing a boy first for you too :) Can’t wait till tomorrow to find out! Wishing you and Alex a New Year filled w/ much joy, health and happiness!

  14. what an exciting day! all of us will be on our toes waiting to know what its going to be! will he have alex’s cute scruffy beard, or your beautiful grin :)

  15. Good Luck with it all. Either way you’re going to be over the moon. I’ve just had a little girl and love it so much baby Coco and she is gorgeous. there is something about having a girl as fun to dress up in lots of cute little clothes.

  16. nicole, that is really sweet! and thanks for all these lovely comments — i can’t believe it’s still 50/50!

  17. I’m so excited for you and Alex! Congrats again, a million times over.

  18. so exciting!! congratulations!

  19. I’m going with BOY! but either way I’m so happy for you!

  20. So exciting – can’t wait to hear!

  21. Ha ha it was at 50-50 when I voted. Either way, congrats again!

  22. i vote for simply adorable.
    either way.
that’s what your bundle of joy will be.
    congrats to both of you!
you’re going to be such sweet parents.
i can’t wait to watch the adventure unfold here at your blog.

  23. Tomorrow will be the most exciting day of your pregnancy besides actually having the baby. For my first pregnancy, they couldn’t tell what the baby was until I was 6 or 7 months because she wouldn’t cooperate. The second we could tell right away because he was letting it “all hang out.” So exciting!

To Ashley Taylor: My husband and I found out with our 20-week ultrasound that there was a problem with the baby, and he might have a genetic condition with a 5% survival rate past age one. BUT, our doctors didn’t suggest the amniocentesis, because it is so risky and the chance of miscarriage because of it was 1 in 3. Definitely do your research before considering the amnio, and best of luck!

  24. how exciting!
My husband and I waited till birth in order to be surprised, which was awesome, but I about died of curiosity!

    Let us know the results!!

  25. eep – this is so exciting. I said boy… but I’ve already changed my mind… and clearly the jury is split.

Thank you so much for sharing in this exciting time with your (equally excited) readers.

  26. Cute story: My friend Heather and her husband Dave wanted to know the sex of their baby — their first child — but didn’t want to find out in the doctor’s office. So, instead of blurting it out then and there, Heather asked the nurse to write down the sex of the baby on a piece of paper. Later that evening, over dinner, Heather got out the piece of paper, and she read it to Dave. It said, “boy.” They were both overjoyed! (Dave had secretly been hoping for a boy.)

Best of luck with your appointment!

    xo.

  27. sk says...

I am so excited for you! Partly because I have terrible baby fever and can’t wait to read all your posts about baby stuff. Congrats!

    P.S. You’re having a boy!

  28. So exciting! Congrats to you and Alex!

  29. i said boy! either way – you guys will be in heaven. i can’t wait to hear!!

  30. Aw, I am SO happy for you two. Just took the poll and it is at 50/50! I guess that’s the truth :)
I hope everything goes smoothly tomorrow.

  31. Oh wow, that poll is pretty close so far! I say boy! You two must be so excited!

  32. boy, but i couldn’t tell you why!!

  33. That’s amazing – it’s pretty much exactly 50/50 right now in thee votes!! I’m so excited to hear!

  34. I feel like it’s going to be a boy=) (I don’t know why!)

  35. ab says...

I guessed a girl cause I have two and I LOVE girls! Boys are awesome, too, of course, and I often wonder what it would be like to have a boy in the family!

We didn’t find out the first time, but we did the second time around, and it was so much fun planning for Anastasia throughout the pregnancy…

    Good luck!

  36. you are totally going to love this pregnancy. i love it. i’m not sure which gender it will be. i am awful at guessing. i hope it goes well!

  37. I guessed boy. And I’m usually about 50% right on my guesses;) Next comes the best part…do we get to hear your choices for baby names?! Good luck tomorrow!! xx

  38. Jenny P says...

I’m so excited for you. We just found out last week that we’re going to have a little boy. Secretly, I’m pulling for you having a boy as well!

  39. That’s so exciting! I voted boy, but either way that’s gonna be one lucky baby to have such amazing and cool parents!

  40. Good luck! I think it’s a boy….I say that for everyone though. One day I’ll be right!

  41. maggie says...

    i think boy!

  42. Oh my goodness my dear! Kiwi and I come home from Paris to find out that you are having a baby!

That is beyond exciting. You and Alex are going to be the most wonderful parents.

Congrats again! Can’t wait to hear if it’s a boy or girl!

  43. Congratulations Joanna and Alex! This is terrific news! Good luck tomorrow! I’m pregnant too, but we decided not to find out whether it’s a boy or a girl. Only three more months of mysterious joy for us to go. :)

  44. Exciting! I’m sensing a boy too, but it’s close in the polls. Too fun!

  45. must be so exciting!! can’t wait to hear the news! i think it will be a boy. i don;t know why really i just went with my gut.

  46. how fun!!! can’t wait to find out! ahhh i am living vicariously through you :)

  47. Haha, 50/50! Love it!
I’m crossing my fingers for a girl — but that’s because I have a daughter & want the rest of the world too as well!
Either way, your babe is going to have the most fantastic style ;)

  48. I love that it’s at 50/50 when I voted. Thems the odds I guess.

  49. this is so exciting!

  50. so funny that the poll is 50/50! peonies, we always wanted to find out, i’m not sure why! :)

  51. ashley, congratulations! getting an amnio actually does come with real risks, so i wouldn’t do it unless there was a true medical need. but i know what you mean about it being hard to wait!! :)

  52. I really think a sweet little boy! How exciting

  53. I sense a boy!

(Amazing how close the vote is, though. Ah, well, I guess it’s just 50/50 isn’t it?)

  54. That’s so exciting! Why did you decide to find out the sex? I’m just curious, I know some people are adamant about waiting and being surprised and some wouldn’t even think of not finding out!

  55. Wow this is so exciting! I just voted (girl) and it came up as 333 votes for a boy and 329 votes for a girl… isn’t that amazing that it’s turned out 50% either way! xxxx

  56. Congratulations on whatever your little child is! :) I’m 6 weeks preggo and was reading today about the amnio test you can have done at 16 weeks that counts chromosones and lets you in on your baby’s secret 4 weeks early. Did you guys consider doing that? I know it’s incredibly invasive (and looks PAINFUL) so I haven’t decided yet if I want to do it. Good luck!

  57. I voted girl, but then i remembered that duck you posted about and thought boy…

  58. awwww, im excited! and of course people of good intution, you got a 50/50 chance of getting it right! =)

  59. How exciting!!! Hopefully you’ll be able to pick up some pink or blue things soon :)
    xoxo
    Lauren

  60. I’m feeling a girl but my gender determination skills have been off as of late. In any case, “healthy” should be the only desired outcome and everything else is just icing on the cake!

  61. How funny that it is almost 50/50. so much for intuition, statistics win ;)

I’m really excited for you guys, and can’t wait to hear the news (what is kind of weird becease I never met you but who cares)

  62. We find out next week about our second :) Congrats! In order to guess we need to see another picture Mama!

  63. I voted boy. I’m so excited for you!

  64. I’m so excited! I can’t wait to hear!

  65. you must be BURSTING with excitement (i know i am for you)! i can’t wait to hear the great news. xo

  66. Good for you guys! I always think it makes no sense to “wait to be surprised.” People still do that! I know I’ll want all the time I can get to buy clothes and furniture for the appropriate gender! Good luck :)

  67. I cannot wait for that appointment! Have so much fun finding out –

  68. I definitely am feeling a girl for you and Alex….good luck! xxoo

  69. A huge congrats to you both!!

  70. How exciting! Some people I know like to wait to find out. I couldn’t do that. I’d like to know who I was talking to in there:)
    -Jennifer

  71. Oh, we cannot wait to hear the news!!!

  72. Just don’t forget that whatever they say it’s not 100% accurate – and can be less accurate if they tell you it’s a girl!

A good friend of mine was told last spring she was having a girl! There was a lot of pink purchased, and many MANY adorbale dresses. The baby was born, wrapped quickly in a blanket and set on her chest for 15 or so minutes. When it came time to cut the cord they unwrapped their beautiful Thea Josephina and low and behold, there were boy parts down there! Turns out it was really Torin Joseph…

  73. that’s so exciting! hooray!

xo katherine aka. urban flea :)

  74. totally a boy, you guys. xo

  75. Boy! :)

  76. I’m so excited for you, Joanna! I voted for girl…can’t wait to find out!

  77. Ah, I love this poll!! How fun! I can’t wait to hear…I guessed boy, but either way….amazing! I’m especially excited to hear what names you will pick out!! {If you decide to share them, of course!}

  78. I’m guessing a boy!! :D
    And congratulations, Joanna and Alex!

  79. m says...

i’m so excited for you!i think it’s gonna be a girl.

  80. Ah! The poll is dead even. Too funny. Well let it be noted I voted boy. I had vivid dreams with my first two kids about their gender and both times I was right. No dream with the third. Have fun finding out!! Exciting time for you.

  81. so very fun! can’t wait to hear what you guys find out:) when i had my son, i just knew it was a boy, so…wondering if you have any intuitions yourself? well, i say boy for you, that’s my thought from cape cod!

  82. You know you miss 1 blog day you miss so much. So sorry I missed that post. Huge over the moon congratulations. I’m so happy for you and Alex. Boy or Girl? I have no clue. I’ll say girl. I have a 50% shot.

  83. we aren’t hoping more for a boy or a girl, we are just excited to know which one! :)

  84. Congrats on the baby! So exciting! I vote a healthy baby :-) Good Luck tomorrow.

  85. eeeek! SO exciting!!!! i can’t wait for you to find out. other than a healthy baby, did you have a preference on what your first child would be? either way, he/she will be beautiful I’m sure!!!

  86. Such an EXCITING day, Joanna and Alex!!! I can’t wait to hear the results!

    love,
    jenny

  87. SO exciting. I voted boy. :) Can’t wait to hear what names you have or will pick out! :)

  88. How exciting! It’s probably like a birthday, the day before school and Christmas all wrapped up into one giant excitement ball!

  89. oh my gosh!!! i’m so excited for you, joanna. i have terrible intuition about these things, so i’m not even going to wager a guess.

i can’t wait until we find out the sex(es). at our appointment this week we find out how many we’re having (we had three embryos transferred). based on how sick i am, it feels like there are about a hundred in there, but i’m hoping for twins!!!

  90. Weather it’s a boy or a girl, I think makes no difference. The gift is in the baby itself. I agree with Emily, either way you’ll be a proud mother of a beautiful child! Congrats!

  91. Awesome! Will be so great for you to know – then you can start shopping and decorating :)

  92. Either way, I’m sure he/she will be a beauty!
