Have you been watching Emma, the new PBS miniseries? It started last Sunday night, and it’s AMAZING. Emma is so charming and adorable with her gossip and matchmaking, and the show stays really true to the book. And don’t worry if you missed the first episode; you can watch it online here. I absolutely love it!

Yes, Emma, by the way she look, the way she smiles, is just so charming. Is there any chance that it will be shown again, this year? Just wondering.

I am loving this miniseries. I recorded it on my DVR which is my only way to watch since my two little men only let us watch Go Gabba Gabba. Congrats on your pregnancy!
This makes me wish we had not canceled our cable.

oh goodness, this is when I miss American television! :-( Laura in Ludwigsburg, Germany…..
I think PBS is doing Persuasion this season too!
You can only view it if you’re in the US. :( Sniff sniff…I love Emma. My absolute favourite version, however, is Clueless.
Thanks for the suggestion. I watched the first half and LOVED it! (Also, I was delighted when I recognized the girl portraying Emma is the same actress from Atonement.) Can’t wait for the next installment.
OH my goodness! I am so glad you posted this. We haven’t had TV since we moved into our house… I would have had NO idea…
Before Emma was on our screens here in England I’d never bothered watching many period dramas but I was totally addicted to Emma! The whole series is well worth watching. i looooved it. x
Oh, I absolutely love this miniseries!
Thanks for the recommendation! Looks wonderful. How I love Jane Austen.
Also, love your blog :)
I’ve been loving it too! There’s some serious eye candy – from the costumes, to the scenery, to the seriously dishy lads :)
I have to say I’m loving this blog too! I’ve been reading every day – thanks for your work!
Oh, I watched it few months ago on BBC, I absolutely love it. Ramola is wonderful and Johnny Lee Miller is the best Mr Knightly so far!
oh no! no i need to watch all of it.
I didn’t even know about it. I love jane austen! thanks for posting!
It was fabulous! I loved it, can’t wait till this Sunday.
This was on over here recently too and I loved it. I love anything Austen though!
definitely my cup of tea!
My mom told me about it the other day (I don’t have TV). I’m so glad that we can watch it online.
And oh ho ho, Jonny Lee Miller as Mr. Knightley? Love.
I think this is my favorite version of Emma yet :) oh and I just found this, if this helps anyone not in the US :)
Like other disappointed fans I’m outside the US (NZ) and can’t stream from the PBS website. Does anyone know if this is available anywhere else on the web to get around this?
Thank you so much for this post, it would have flew right over my head! Super Yay! I shall tune it!
Take care!
I love Austen so looking forward to this hitting Australian screens…
xx
I’m so happy you told me it’s available online. I’ve been waiting since December for it and totally missed the first episode. I’m watching it tonight!
thank you, thank you, joanna! my husband and i were sad to find out that we had missed the number one. but now we’re all set. woohoo!
So sad I forgot to watch it! Thanks for the link. I’ll get all caught up for this Sunday.
Love me some Austin on PBS. Can’t wait to add it to me DVR list.
Oh drat. They only stream to the U.S…not Canada. :(
ohhh… this is on my list of “to read”. This series will be a dvd treat once I’ve gotten around to the book!
I watched the whole series on youtube a couple of months ago when i was sick in bed, and it has become my favourite austen adaptation. i loooved it.
Emma is one of my favorites- I read it last year for the first time. And I actually did come across this a few days ago, but had no idea it was a new miniseries! Now I’m excited :]
oh wow!! thanks for passing the word on…I will def check it out.
xoxo
anna
I forgot to watch it even though I had PBS send me an email reminder! Actually, I’m in the middle of reading it right now. I’ve gotten through 3/4 of the book…at work!
bwahahaha:)
i saw the previews and it looks really good
Did you see The Young Victoria? So good and same feel as Emma!
Am I the only one who preferred the Kate Beckinsale version of Emma to the Paltrow one?
yay! Thank you for posting this…I missed the first installment and have to catch up before this weekend!
I have such an attachment to PBS movies. I started watching Dr. Zhivago the weekend before my daughter Lucy was born and finished it up the next weekend with her sleeping in my arms. It’s recorded in her baby book as her first movie :)
we’ve been watching too! i really love romola garai, she was stunning in daniel deronda!
~katie
Yes!! I’m a total sucker for anything period and JAne Austen…setting my Tivo…
Joanna, Mr. Knightley is cute, but I wish he were as cute at Col. Brandon in the last PBS Austen series–swoon!
I saw it when it was on in the UK and it’s brilliant! Although I’ve seen the film adaptation with Gwyneth Paltrow so many times that it was weird seeing other people playing the characters.
Oh yes, I will watch that because it appears that Dumbledore is in it.
I did manage to catch this, but fell asleep before the episode ended; thank you for posting the link so I can catch up on the bit I missed! And, Mr. Knightly is seriously hot…he always is in any Emma version!
It’s one of my favorite Jane Austen’s books ever!! I love masterpiece theatre!! So good!! xoxoxoxoxo
I’m watching it too, and love it!!
p.s. Did you see the Little Dorritt miniseries last year? I highly recommend it. I absolutely loved it. I had never heard of the book (by Dickens) so wasn’t going to watch it, but so glad I did!
oooh…I loved this version of Emma! I thought that it was so much better than the Gwyneth version. Ps. I saw Romola on stage in London last night, and she was fabulous!
I loved the Pride and Prejudice series from a few years ago. I’m sure I’ll love this too!
i love pbs and emma!
both together works so well. yay!
Thanks for the heads up! =D
yes! yes! yes!
this year’s masterpiece season looks spectacular!
ohh mr. knightly is so drool worthy!
XO.
Um…if that’s Johnny Lee Miller behind her I am ALL OVER that.
I’ve crushed on him since Hackers. (He was Angelina Jolie’s first husband!)
Austen in any form is comforting, but I actually wasn’t completely crazy about this version of Emma. I liked the Paltrow version so much better. Not to be a stickler but some people said it here – I didn’t like the way Romola Garai played her. And Johnny Lee Miller was way too young to play Mr. Knightley.
I was so excited when I saw this – I DVRed it immediately. Love PBS!
I’ve totally been watching this!!!! I love PBS masterpiece theatre!!!! I netflixed the pbs miniseries of Jane Eyre, and even my husband (who hadn’t read it, loved it!!!)
Yay!!! I didnt even know that this was on PBS right now! I am thrilled beyond expression!
