I think simple is definitely the way to go. Plus, people make such a huge deal about engagement rings which is really unnecessary. They don’t have to be gaudy and expensive. I don’t like excessive rings (I used to, in my “Cher days”, but not anymore).
Personally speaking, I think for me it would be pointless to have separate engagement and wedding rings. I like to wear one simple ring and I’d feel funny if I only wore a beautiful engagement ring for a short time and then never again because I was wearing the wedding ring instead. It’d be a waste. I think I’d either skip the engagement ring altogether or get one that is versatile enough to play both parts. Like the one you’ve posted.
I already feel bad enough that I have so many neglected rings. And really nice ones at that. But when I get a new ring (that at the time is the pinnacle of beautiful to me) I wear only that one. And oddly enough, on the left hand. I always have to explain that I’m not engaged, that it’s just more comfortable on the left.
I know a lot of people wear both rings at once, but I don’t think it looks right unless they absolutely match (like a set – and that limits creativity in the search) and I’d think it’d be uncomfortable. But I don’t know, I’ve never tried two rings on one finger before.

yes I love emeralds… but something so small I feel looks good only on sweet delicate hands that I unfortunately don’t have so I went for a wide band. But I do like that there seems to be more options these days. I really can’t stand the silly big rock rings… they just scream look at me, look at me… which is really so tacky. Don’t you think?

this is great. what’s also nice is that you can stack other rings with it down the road – wedding band, anniversary band, having a baby ring, just feel like having a new ring…in a way, it almost acts like a charm bracelet on your finger, with each “charm” marking a new moment in your life.

Plain and simple, I love a big diamond…I just love the sparkle. With that said, I absolutley adore the thin gold band that your friend is rockin’!! It is elegant and subtle. The emerald is gorgeous too!

But the diamonds are small, and not super shiny. I work in the land of girls with giant diamonds, and it’s starting to make me feel like my ring isn’t “good enough”.
Today I went to a jewellery store to look at bands, and just felt so out of place.

my engagement ring is kind of a big honker, very antique inspired. my husband’s parents are jewelers so I’m very fortunate in that aspect. He picked it out entirely on his own, so I love it even more. I picked out my wedding ring, a very delicate w/g band with teeny diamonds all around. I wear it on my right hand…I read somewhere it’s an Italian tradition to do that. I guess it certifies my love for my husband while still being independent. pretty cool!
I already know what my perfect ring is and I know that it only costs a mere $200 or so for it but it’s exactly what I want on my finger. No fancy big diamonds to show off to my friends, just the way I like it for me.
