Hmmm, this hairstyle might be pretty for a wedding. What do you think? I love the braid, but is it too messy?
P.S. The dress.

Pretty effective data, thanks so much for your article.

That is so pretty! If you think it’s a bit messy, you can always clean it up a bit, but the style is gorgeous. I would do that for my wedding!

speaking of wedding things, have you seen this shop? some lovely clips, combs, veils, etc.! thought of you.
not messy at all. it’s very alluring actually.
this looks hard to do but I want to try it.
you can’t plan for your wedding too early!
My mum always told me, and it seems to have stuck, that brides always wear their hair up and don’t look like themselves anymore…she begged me to wear my hair long and down like I do every day, to make me look like ‘me’ on my wedding day. No real logic, but a thought…although this relaxed style is like a nice compromise between natural and dressed up!
I love this! I have a similar picture pulled aside for my wedding hair do.
Nah, too messy. You could do better with a clean-up version of this. You might regret the messy one in photos.
this is perfect !
but why “les cheveux de la mariée “?
Oh no, it’s definitely the perfect amount of mess! Thanks for sharing, I’m going to try it with my hair :)
It’s very cute but I think it’s a smidge too messy for wedding hair. That’s just me though! : ) You can totally rock it if you want to.
These are Heidi braids and worth a google images search using that term. This version seems a touch too “slept in” to me, but there are some pics with a little neater version. Anne Hathaway has a pic with her hair like this and it’s pretty nice. -Jennifer
This is lovely. It’s boho chic and classic and trendy all at once. Very Kirsten Dunst.
Great find.
i love the hairstyle. note that if you go too neat with the hairstyle, you might risk looking like a swedish milkmaid. it’s perfect in the pic.
Love the dress. I also did not spend a lot on a dress and never regretted it for a minute. The bottom gets trashed, people step on it, etc.
I like the idea of the braid and not-fussy hair, but not quite that messy.
Love it!!! Maybe a little serum on the wispys will help make it more real life appropriate.
I think it’s just a touch too messy. I think a more “kept” version of the hairstyle would be nice. I definitely like the braids!
Very pretty, but I think this one:
http://www.iheartyoublog.com/2009/01/still-obsessed.html on I Heart You is a little less mess, a little more elegant; especially for a wedding.
Regardless, on your wedding day, you’ll be the most beautiful woman in the room, even if you did nothing to your hair at all.
I think it looks a little too POST-wedding for me… I love the messy look, but this goes just a little too far.
are you planning to wear any headpieces? love the braid.
I love this look, and i would do this for a wedding. I really like the messiness of the looks too. Super pretty !
ps. thanks a lot for your kind words :)
Love the braid, but think the rest is too messy. Some wispy-ness is okay but this goes beyond that and well into the world of messy.
You’ll be looking at your wedding pictures for the rest of your life… could you stand looking at that hair for that long? Just a thought.
So pretty! Definitely.
So beautiful. Adore the plaits. Actually, I just love plaits in general
i think it’s more whimsy, than messy. (very cute.)
Not too messy at all! I think a slightly messy hairdo helps you look less like a bridal-bot and more personal.
I think it’s adorable. But then again, I love me some messy hair. :)
At least this way, you won’t have to worry about it getting messed up and looking funny halfway through. It’s supposed to look messed up!
Oh my gosh. I love this… and, no, I don’t think they are too messy. I love that look… some of my favorite photo’s of Jackie O and Sophia Loren are the one’s where their “hair-do’s” were perfectly askew.
that hair with that dress would be amazing. i hate the too-done slick up-do for weddings and this is a perfect alternative!
Go for the braid! The dress’s so elegant and clean, a little bit of mess and texture woudl be a nice contrast.
I like the braid idea, but the model’s hair is far too messy for a wedding… here is a link to the most beautiful wedding hair (and P.S., one of the most beautiful weddings!) of 2008: http://www.scotthayneblog.com/?p=2791 (and no, it’s not my own!)
Love it, but it is just a tad too messy. I think you could pull it off a little cleaner- looks less intentional, more natural. But love the idea, of course!
I LOVE it!
I think it is beautiful! It has a purposefully messy look to it as opposed to I literally just woke up messy look. I think it would look gorgeous with that dress especially for a more laid back wedding.
Jo!!! Here is a great blog for dressing french!!!
I absolutely love it, Joanna. And with your dress it will be so so so lovely and elegant.
I wouldn’t do a messy style for my wedding but I think it’s up to what you feel comfortable with. MY sister recently got married and she had her har in messy curls pinned up everywhere but it fit her- she’s just to artsy and creative for a neat, slick hairstyle.
I like the messy, sexy look! looks very romantic – and those photos of you and your fiancee were just fabulous!
my vote for the dress is either the first one (beautiful) or the last one w/pockets…
I think that the whispy bits are rather cute, but maybe keep them to a minimum to avoid the ‘messy’ look ;)
It’s absolutely beautyful.
As someone said it’s de ‘it’ type of hair do!
So you might be a little bit careful about the messyness.
And about the dresses the best one and chic for me is the Lucinda gown.
The pictures Max Wagner took you and your fianceé are amazing. I hope you use them somewhere ‘coz it shows the love you share.
Hugs and good luck!
Dont do it Joanna, you will look back in 10 years and say “what was I thinking?” No to the Viking Princess Braid.
Just say no. nononononono.
aaaaaaahhhhh, braids!
I love this style. But I’m partial since I had part of my hair braided for my own wedding.
i think that jcrew dress has the prettiest neckline, and a semi-mussed braided up-do would be lovely with it.
i think this is so pretty, and not super messy, either:

I think this would look adorable on you!!! I would loved to have had this as my wedding style!
Definitely try a test run first, and let us know how it goes!
I think it looks so pretty!! And absolutely perfect with the right dress. Love your site!
i love this style – it looks like it’ll work with slightly wavy textured hair, which i have, and has just the right mix of romantic and french chic that lets the focus be on you, not your hair :)
I agree with a few of the commenters above. Try it! I think it will go great with your dress and the “feel” that you are going for. It kind of looks like the stylist teased out some of the edges for the shoot. Maybe without that, it’ll be a little more polished but still quite relaxed. Just try it and see how it looks on your head! Also, saw the headband in this shot and thought of you. http://www.freepeople.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/products.detail/productID/ed02c58d-5981-4ad6-8ea5-dbc00e9b6539/categoryID/eb344a5e-2eb4-44f2-9bd1-39502a8fe6d1 Can’t find it on their site, so sorry, and I don’t know if it would go with your dress, but still had to share!
I love the braid, but I don’t love the messy look. I think a wedding hairdo should be simple and something that you won’t regret when you look at all of your pictures. But I’m sure if anyone could pull it off, you could!
That hairstyle would look lovely with the dress you chose.
I love anything with braids. I think it is beautiful. If you’re worried about it being too messy I do believe you can make the look a little tighter. Try it both ways before the big day. Either way it would be great. Love the dress too!
this is my wisdom about wedding hair – regardless of what you pick, make sure it is something comfortable to you and that will stay in place as you visit and dance the night away. remember french girls are the most chic when they appear effortless. so yes, I love the carefree style in this one and think it goes great with your dress selection. you want to look dazzling on “your day” and enjoy the precious moments.
i like it, although neatening it up a bit would probably make it more suitable!
x
It’s lovely. Just make to your comfort level.
I like it! I would maybe do it a bit more polished version. But it could be really cute!
I like it – but I wonder if it’s the kind of thing you would look back at in 20 years and think ‘What was I thinking?’- although I’m sure the day is more important than the long-term effect of the wedding photos!
i love the braid updo look…
The braid is just lovely and I love that messy look. It would go wonderfully with a vintage dress or something a little more nontraditional, no?
hmm. i am not so sure. i wonder if it would be hard to pull off on such a formal day…if it could translate well from fashion photo to real life event. i would be afraid of looking back at wedding pics and thinking it looked like your hair was not secured well. but it is pretty and so no non-sense.
i guess having a better idea what mood your going for would help decide ; )
absolutely gorge – sweet and bohoish and feminine – the ropyiness of the hair goes with the ropey neckline on the dress too. i like a bit of height on the back of the hair – adds a bit of 60’sish drama. that’s my tip! love ur blog just discovered it x
Just beautiful, I think it would look gorgeous with the dress.
LOVE. once my websites up..well…you’ll have to take a look.
messy wedding hair would look so so pretty! love the braid also. =)
i think it’s beautiful. it’s playful but elegant and very, very cute.
love it!
I think it is fabulous! It looks glamorous and effortless all at the same time- perfect for a wedding. And, I am not sure I said it before, but your dress is beautiful! A modern classic for sure.
messy
i love this hair. perfect for an outdoor wedding with a flowing grecian gown…you’re so lucky you’re engaged! :)
Perfect!
just like your dress.
they belong together!
P.S. love both your blogs! and congrats on the engagement/wedding!
