hey anon,
we rented an apartment in Potsdamer Platz, so we’ll be exploring the city from there. we’re really open to anything. we might take a day trip — alex is excited about going to Dresden — but we haven’t officially planned one yet.
thank you!

joanna-
where are you staying when you go to berlin? and where else will you be going?
A beautiful place to go to is C/O Berlin Gallery
(co-berlin.com), another place to feel well and find nice things is the Stilwerk Berlin (Kantstraße 17 near by the station Zoologischer Garten). And Berlin has a lot flewmarkets on sundays, always a pleassure Bernauer Straße (Station). Best Sushi in town are made by kuchi.de. What else, Mitte is where everything happens (right in the *middle* of berlin). Take a few walks there (start Oranienburger Straße) and you’ll find nice little shops in nice little streets with young designers, some arties and really good food. CU in Berlin;o)
Joanna- I head out tonight, so stay tuned to http://www.pretavoyager.blogspot.com for more ideas and resources over the next couple weeks. Can’t wait! And thank you to all your wonderful readers who posted comments and gave me more ideas for my trip.
cheers!

Very cool photo to go along with this post. I remember we saw the photographer’s show at the Chelsea gallery. Puts me in the mood for Germany!
Trying that again (choose Berlin and then the English option):
omg i would die of fear.
The most unique dining experience I ever had was in Berlin:

And here is an entertaining conversation on Ellen & Julia Lupton’s blog, Design Your Life, where a post about McDonald’s lead to some great Berlin tips (and where to find good restrooms). too funny: http://www.design-your-life.org/blog.php?id=1007

I’m headed to Berlin in mid October for the first time. Can’t wait! I’m compiling a list of great tips and tid bits I’ve picked up from people (I’ll be posting it on my blog eventually: http://www.pretavoyager.blogspot.com) which I’ll be sure to pass along to you. In the meantime, NYT has a great collection of articles that has me super excited for the Berlin arts scene: http://travel.nytimes.com/travel/guides/europe/germany/berlin/overview.html
i will definitely look into it! thank you so much — joanna
oops. Whitewall mag. Spring 07. A nice little interview with Sabrina van der Ley. Quoting her response to a question about Berlin being the new New York, she says, “Yes! And it’s much cheaper! Berlin is a boomtown for art!…It [the art scene] really started on an underground level. One of these [empty spots and empty building where artists could work] was turned into the Kunst-Werke Berlin (KW), which is now the partner of P.S.1. Then a lot of national and international galleries moved in.”
You must look into this KW reference. It sounds great.
Excellent! There was a great Berlin-art-scene-type article that I was reading the other day – in a back issue of Wallpaper mag. Should I find it for you?
