Meet the Team

Joanna Goddard

Founder and Editor

In 2007, Joanna began Cup of Jo as a weekend hobby, but then developed it into the award-winning daily website it is today — with a deeply engaged readership, impactful essays, and a diverse team of writers. Joanna also runs the weekly newsletter Big Salad about style and relationships. With more than 200,000 subscribers, Big Salad is the #1 bestselling fashion/beauty newsletter across Substack. Her writing has appeared in many magazines, including Glamour and New York. She lives with her two chatty boys in Brooklyn, and you can find her on Instagram.

Alison Piepmeyer

Director of Revenue and Partnerships

Alison has spent 20 years in marketing, working with influencers, hiring them on behalf of brands, and running her own social media agency, so she’s seen the internet from just about every angle. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband and two kids, loves a good audiobook, and will always say yes to hosting friends for bagels. Reach out to alison@cupofjo.com or find her on Instagram.

If you’d like to partner with Cup of Jo or Big Salad, please email alison@cupofjo.com. We love working with brands to create successful partnerships of all sizes.

Jannelle Sanchez

Senior Editor

Jannelle has always loved talking to people and hearing their stories. After graduating with a journalism degree, she wrote on the marketing teams of various tech companies. But she always found time to write for her personal blog, which featured heartfelt essays, travel recommendations, and life realizations. In November 2021, she began working for Cup of Jo and quickly become an invaluable part of the team. Jannelle lives in the Bay Area with her husband and three children. Say hello at jannelle@cupofjo.com or follow her on Instagram.

Kaitlyn Teer

Senior Newsletter Editor

Kaitlyn is the newsletter editor for Cup of Jo’s weekly Substack, Big Salad. She is the author of Little Apocalypses, an essay collection on motherhood, climate change, and hope. She lives with her husband and two kids in western Washington, where she enjoys hanging out at the beach and taking family bike rides. Get in touch at kaitlyn@cupofjo.com or find her on Instagram.

Casey Elsass

He is the author of the bestseller What Can I Bring?: Recipes to Help You Live Your Guest Life and has co-authored more than 30 cookbooks. His writing has appeared in The New York Times, New York Magazine, Bon Appétit, and The Wall Street Journal, and his recipes have been featured by NPR, Epicurious, and Food52, among other sites. In his free time, Casey enjoys attending the opera and RSVP-ing yes to every party invite. You can find him on Instagram.

Christine Pride

Race Matters Columnist

Christine wears many hats when it comes to writing and books. She’s had a 15-year career in book publishing — working as an editor at Doubleday, Hyperion and Simon and Schuster, where she published bestselling books such as From Scratch, Surviving the White Gaze and These Ghosts Are Family. In addition to championing other writers, she’s a novelist, too. She loves any chance to talk about race, friendship, books, and television, preferably while eating French fries. You can reach her at racematters@cupofjo.com or follow her on Instagram.
