What Did You Do This Weekend?

I had a wild weekend… Thursday afternoon, I went to pick up my kid from school and the principal called me into his office (second of the year, and already, oh boy) and he tells me that someone noticed a bruise on my kid, my kid said he dad hit him and our family had been reported to CPS. I was floored. My husband is a calm guy, been with him for 23 years, he’s not a hitter, I couldn’t understand what was happening. I talk to my kid on the way home, he says he doesn’t know what I’m talking about. After a VERY tense night, we find out the next morning – it was a mistake, it was a different kid, the person who reported mistakenly told the principal my kid’s name. The emotional rollercoaster of that 16 hours was intense (and my heart breaks for that other kid and their family knowing what they are about to go through). I couldn’t get it out of my head, CPS showing up and turning your life inside out and the potential ramifications, so I did what any sane person would do and wrote an entire TV pilot about it this weekend. I’m a TV writer so really not that crazy, but I’ve never written so fast before. The entire thing was downloaded to me. I already have it out to writer friends for notes.

I have caught some kind of upper respiratory crud, so my weekend was spent drinking loads of water, catching up on my podcasts, and completely throwing off my sleep schedule, yikes.

I got my pre-vacation haircut and flu shot on Friday afternoon. Saturday I cleaned my apartment and lazed around (for the past few years, vaccines have been knocking me down for 24-48 hours – 100% worth it to not get flu/covid/what have you, but oof, still not fun). Sunday I worked a bit redoing my social media strategy, did my nails, and caught up on The Shards. I also watched An Affair to Remember this weekend – that scene where Cary Grant kisses Deborah Kerr on the stairs and you only see their feet = swoon.

Took my boys (5 and 7) to their first concert! Chris Stapleton! (They made it through about 8 songs before they slept on the blanket) – lol. I think they were the youngest attendees.

On Saturday, my boyfriend and I checked out a new breakfast place (hour+ wait, but we just got on the waitlist and walked the 10 min back to his apt to hang out!) and then went on a hike through the woods and then a sunny trail pinging with grasshoppers.

My church is doing this early church history class taught by the coolest female theology professor, so I basked in new knowledge on Sunday, then picked up a knitting project (it’s still so hot, but I’m itching for fall) and watched Alaska camping videos the rest of the afternoon.

im in az. we planted a new tree and today we had a lovely rain and cool temps (75f) hopefully summer is waning. we also saw our Yankees beat the red sox 16-1!

We went to see Noah Kahan and I was surprised that my grief counselor invited 45,000 people to our session- hahahha. How RUDE. But seriously, it was an amazing show, and the weather here shifted to fall vibes, with a cool days and breezy nights. It was a lovely way to transition from summer to fall. Sneaking in one more core memory with my beautiful daughter who starts her senior year in high school next week was perfection!

I’m doing the Chani Nicholas breakthrough course from her app and 10/10 recommend. I was intimidated to get going, but each day is so achievable and rewarding. Much simpler than I had anticipated. I had family visiting this weekend and found myself looking forward to my (brief) moments of private time to listen to the Chani recordings. So restorative and grounding, even though I’m working on a breakthrough!

My two older boys had their first tackle football games of the season, we came home with one loss and one win. My father in law came and watched my son play in the same stadium he used to play in high school, 58 years ago, so that was a cool moment. My son made several great tackles to top it off. It was extremely hot, humid and sunny – my favorite weather, for real! On Sunday I had my extended family over to enjoy the backyard while it is still nice out. I kept it simple, asked everyone to bring an app and we grilled steak and my mom brought cheesy potatoes. Every was stuffed. It was a great way to have lots of food with pretty much no stress and no planning. We had 40+ people and that’s just the family who lives nearby. The night ended with lots of dancing to Bruno Mars because my mom, sister and nieces had all been to his concert the night before. Now I am cleaning up a big mess today, but worth it!

My boys and I made a last camping trip—good, dirty fun and it was so good to come home and shower. I got a Shakti Mat acupressure mat a few weeks ago and I lay on it every night before bed. I was laying on my cold camping air mattress and longing to be home laying on my warm, spiky mat. Thankful for both!

And I sent myself on a walk alone in the woods to clear my head, wrestling myself into gratitude, and the forest blessed me with some very-out-of-season Chicken of the Woods mushrooms. Yum!
