What are you up to this weekend? We’re planning to play a rousing game of Ono 99 with friends, and I’m also reading the novel Pool House in bed at night and really enjoying it. Hope you have a good one, and here are a few links from around the web…
Gemma reveals her five holy-grail summer beauty products. (Big Salad, thank you so much for your support)
How beautiful is Ireland?
How to stay married. “Get two smaller pizzas instead of trying to agree on a big one,” ‘Where should we eat tonight?’ is another fucking landmine so come prepared,” “A mini-fight a day keeps the maxi-fights away.” Samantha Irby absolutely crushes this list of relationship advice.
A 2000-year-old Roman amphitheater hosts a World Cup watch party!
This collection is making me nostalgic for Michigan summers. I want to throw this dress over a swimsuit.
Cannot wait to see the new Sense & Sensibility. Daisy Edgar Jones is perfect casting, although I’m not sure anyone can top Emma Thompson in the 1995 version.
The single most reliable predictor of whether your life will be extraordinary or ordinary.
I want these shorts in every color. (Athleta is up to 60% off through July 6th.)
20 of the internet’s unhinged travel hacks. “Pack a standard power strip in your carry-on. Airport gates never have enough outlets, so if you find a full one, just ask the person if you can unplug them, plug in your power strip, and give them their outlet back along with five new ones. You will become the terminal hero.”
I just got this stunning new platter as a gift, and I’m already imagining piled high with mozzarella, tomatoes, basil, and crusty bread.
Also, the dream picnic spread.
What a hopeful week in New York, between the primary wins and now the rent-freeze approval!
Plus, two reader comments:
Says M.Kim on what childhood lessons can you never give up: “We moved to a very rural town when I was 10. My mom was always amazed by the miles and miles of corn fields and commented on it all the time — so much so that her three preteen kids started ignoring her. So, my dad instituted a rule: You MUST agree with mom when she comments on the corn. He would cue us like an orchestra conductor: ‘That’s a lot of corn, Mom!’ For all our rebellions over the teenage years, we never balked at this rule. Now, 20 years later, as I drive around the same roads as an adult, my husband, who was not present for any of this but folded into it because of my own silliness, will glance at me as we see the cornfields, and we’ll exclaim to each other, ‘That’s a lot of corn!'”
Says Kerry on what childhood lessons can you never give up: “My mom taught us to always notice the sky. Appreciate the colors, see the shapes of the clouds, watch a plane fly through, let the sun hit your face. Not only is it a lesson to slow down, but it opens up your chest and shoulders. It’s a lovely thing, even when it’s raining.”
