In my late fifties here and I love my iced almond milk matcha habit!
omg, i cannot write a straight sentence, lol. how I wish I could edit my comments!!
It seems insane to me to allow kids caffeine. It’s just sheeple marketing targeted at teens! I think all parents need to educate their kids about targeted marketing and how to exercise wisdom around that. As children, we must protect them. Caffeine is a seriously addictive drug and not for children.
I had no idea the flowy white skirts were back on trend! I have one that I bought secondhand a few years ago and I wore it the other day. My daughter said I looked like a dead mom from a movie. At first, I was mildly offended. Then she reminded me how many movies have flashback scenes of mothers before they died and they always have her and her child(ren) running and laughing the beach, and she is always wearing a flowing dress or skirt.
Flowy white skirts are in? Hmmm… I had no idea. I have an old one in the back of my closet (“vintage” original, bought by me, many moons ago lol). What kind of top pairs well, these days (I don’t want to wear a tank top). Thanks for any suggestions.
You could do it with a fun graphic tee!
Danced with the devil today and decided to wear a white tee shirt and eat a plum. The devil won.
hahahah – good for you giving it an effort!
I’m planning to spend a weekend with my international bff and our kid daughters soon, and the way I RAN to those candy necklace links…. we will SO be making those. Can’t wait.
What links??
I have Cafe Habibti on my list to go to and try the vanilla fig matcha and the sticky date matcha!
My daughter is a teenager so my fear with flowy white skirts is not as much sticky hands but rather trying to look way too young. (Anyone who saw this year’s Noah Kahan concert knows that every other young lady was wearing one!)
No flowy white skirts here, but as a mother of a 4 year old and an elementary special educator I routinely wear white pants (even after Labor Day to my WASP-y mother’s horror) and you know what? It’s fine! They don’t get any dirtier than other pants. So be bold! Be brave! And invest in a good stain remover, lol
I agree, and I’ve got a two-and-a-half-year-old boy who loves to play in the dirt and mud
Do you have stain remover recs???
Currently making a matcha in my kitchen for today’s second cup of tea, so I feel called out.
Should anyone want to make their own “candy stone” necklace this tutorial from HonestlyWTF is great: https://honestlywtf.com/diy/diy-knotted-gemstone-necklace/
Forever impressed by the fearless women in white skirts. The unsung heroes of modern life.
hahahaha
on a whim, I bought a white cover for my Ikea sofa. it just felt fresh and I was on a trajectory of “what if it will work out”. I drank water, tea, even coffee on it for 3 months, and it remained white & fresh as a beautiful spring morning. Yesterday I got for want of a better word, above my confidence station and had spaghetti with tomato sauce … well. it was a fun sophisticated looking 3 months, now could as well be a start of a murder mystery novel.
@anon Ditto. Also impressed by the use of “unflummoxed”. Definitely taking it for a spin this weekend as my quota of “unflappable”s has run out.
lol @Ava. The universe conspired to get you to follow the recent CoJ recommendation for Bissell Little Green and Folex. ;)
Apropos the white couch cover and the tomato sauce, I wore a lovely white tank top on a flight overseas last week. Despite my best efforts during dinner, a big glob of tomato sauce landed right on my belly. By some miracle, I had a Tide pen in my carry-on bag, and it worked wonders on the stain, saving me from a very awkward 7-hour layover wandering around Amsterdam.
I remember being on an international flight a few years back. I was impressed and amazed at the fully white outfit worn by a
Lovely and stylish young English woman sitting next to me in the aisle seat. As a stain collector, I always wear all black on flights.
With the first beverage service, the flight attendant accidentally spilled a full glass of red wine on my seat mate. She was super classy and laughed it off but I’m sure she was miffed.
Sooooo much matcha. I swear one of my teenagers is solely responsible for the shortage, lol.
Also, I’ve been thinking so much lately about a stone necklace I had in the late-’90’s and early-’00’s. Been considering re-creating it. This may have sealed the deal, haha.
Top notch use of “unflummoxed” lol. I also had a beloved long flowy white skirt in the early-’00’s. (I still have it! Doesn’t fit any more!) but I’ve been noticing in PNW a lot of long flowy dark skirts lately.
wait, i’m confused about the last one! why would women be flummoxed by this trend?
because of kids’ sticky hands etc haha :)
Or the unpredictable of a perimenopausal menstrual cycle!
oooh, i’d love a link to see one of these stone candy necklaces
here are a couple!

Is it bad that I’m a little disappointed that it’s not actually made of candy? LOL I thought it would be like one of those pastel candy necklaces you get at a fun fair but instead of the regular smarties type candy, it was made of the candy that looks like stones on the beach.
I love these! My teens are currently making matchas for themselves in the kitchen right now ;)
What age do people let their kids start drinking caffeine? My kid is only 7 so we have a strict no caffeine policy (except when he goes on a camp field trip and gets unlimited fountain drinks🤦🏻♀️). Curious how others handle this.
@Sarah Levy – mine is 15 and I let her start with matcha around 13. She hates it now but I let her get a latte every now and again. She also is allowed a redbull for long track meets (funny enough, she tells herself that she does not have jitters before her event but rather heart flutters from the redbull – whatever works for you kid).
I let my kids (9 and 12) have sweet milky black tea at home as a treat if it isn’t late in the day. And my older kid does enjoy the occasional matcha bubble tea!Their dad has also started letting them order cokes when we’re eating out but I’m personally not a fan of that decision, sigh. Not loving the Diet Coke is good for you messaging which seems to be circulating right now :(. No coffee yet but thinking I’d be ok with it once my older one is in high school.
Robin, you could try the soda bribery trick: if you order water instead of a coke, you get $1 or $2 cash. Just keep a stash of ones. (But I know some people are against bribery, LOL)
Tana – in a similar vein, if our kids agree to bike somewhere (with us or solo) instead of having us drive them to their destination, they get $1-5 for the savings on fuel and vehicle wear & tear :)
