The shade! By the wonderful Brooke Barker.
P.S. Weekend dog shapes and 14 adorable quarantine pets.
She is sociable since she owns nice dogs. She just looks the other way and keeps strolling with freckout vicious dogs.
Oh, I totally vibe with this! Watching my pup get lost in her sniffing marathons is like seeing her dive into the ultimate doggy library—every scent is a new chapter, and I’m here for it! It’s her own little adventure, and it makes me grin from ear to ear.
I’ve got a spunky little Dachshund here in the States, and she’s got her own thing going on when it comes to other dogs. She’s not rude, just kinda doing her own solo gig. At the dog park, she’s all about that “thanks, but no thanks” energy, and I used to feel the need to give a play-by-play to the other owners. But now? I’m like, whatever, she’s just being her cool, independent self. At home, she’s a total lovebug, all cuddles and fun. So, if she’s got a bit of a “too cool for school” rep at the park, that’s just how she rolls—and I’m totally down with it! 😎
Brooke is so funny…her newsletter is a hoot!
I’ve heard of taking your dog on a “sniiffari” – ha!
If I could only be as cool as my husky… With friendly dogs, she’s friendly. With freakout aggressive dogs, she just looks the other way and keeps walking. And with smol children, she gets close, then sits down and lets them come to her. She’s a peach!
As an owner of an “aggressive freakout dog” just know we are doing our best. Even though they aren’t quite peaches when out and about.
Love Brooke’s newsletter so much!!!
Brooke’s newsletter is a bright light in this world! It never fails to make me smile and delight in the way she looks at the world. Love her work.
Cute
Love that. And I love the sniff urge. I read somewhere about how sniffing was like reading books for dogs. They need variety and lots of it. So it makes me happy when my dog is taking extra sniffs; I always say to myself that she’s reading books, and that warms my heart.
I have what’s called here, in Germany, a Zwergpoodle. My particular poodle wants nothing to do with any other dogs. She never barks or growls at them, she just turns away or insists on moving along. She side-eyes dogs, and I know that other dog owners think she‘s weird. I spent a lot of her puppyhood always trying to explain her cold shoulder behaviour. Haha, I’ve grown. When she‘s with her humans, she’s the most playful, warm, funny, salt of the earth, kind, loving pooch, and if she‘s got a snobby rep at the dog park, it is what it is.
My aunt refers to dogs smelling the neighborhood as “reading the news.” Since hearing that I am sure to take the morning walk extra slowly.
And I’ve heard “checking their pee-mail” too!
