By the wonderful Grace Farris.
P.S. Books as self-care and classic mom advice.
I wonder if someone can explain why the Auden quote was included here? It is a beautiful poem, but the other notes seem centered around self-care, while this one made me think about the pain of unrequited love. While I strive to be person that puts love out into the world no matter what is returned to me, this can be difficult and exhausting at times. Maybe this quote is more about unconditional love, like a mother for a child?
Currently feeling the sting and disappointment of unrequited love, so may be why I interpreted it this way! This “note to self” just reminded me of the person who I miss.
Yes, to the dishwasher, it just makes everything feel so much tidier. Especially, now in the year of ‘Rona.
My ex husband sent me a series of audio clips of that Auden poem when we moved out. Brutal. Read the whole thing, it’s the sickest burn I’ve ever received
Mine did it with Neil Young quotes: “doesn’t mean that much to me to mean that much to you”. At least your sick burn was a bit more sophisticated…(sad laugh in solidarity).
Alison, ours is a grim but hilarious sisterhood! Neil Young! Man, we married some absolute jabronis! But now we’re free! Weird confirmation that we made the right choices, ultimately. He also sent me All Things Must Pass on my subsequent birthday. High five, up top, sis!
Named my daughter Auden so there’s always a constant reminder of her namesake’s beautiful words in our home. Love.
wow, that top right quote hit me hard…am I ever trying to be the most loving?
I love this!
Love that sweet poem by W.H. Auden. It reminds me of something my mother always said when we were kids. Whenever we got angry and obnoxiously shouted, “I don’t even love you anymore!” She would just calmly say, “That’s okay, I love you enough for both of us”
That is so sweet.
That is so sweet! My son has just started experimenting with “I hate you” so this is a good line to keep in my back pocket.
Thanks. If I can bake sourdough bread in 2020, surely I can tackle my first ever turkey in a bag?
That is my very favourite poem. It is kept in the margins of all my journals and calendars and notebooks.
Running the dishwasher every single night (and promptly emptying it every morning) is the key to preventing our household from descending into chaos.
yes!
Yes! And I delegated the task to my husband so I don’t have to do it every single morning now.
Also, I love that Grace relocated to Austin, where I live, because now I relate to her posts even more. Yes, I do have chapped lips from the weather. :)
TIME FOR THE SMELLY CHEESE. Thanks for the reminder. I need to pick up some wine this afternoon.
hahaha it’s ALWAYS time for smelly cheese :)
Lovely. Will have to check out the W.H.Auden quote… words that make the world a better place.
