1. My wife and I had a really good laugh at this post! Especially the part about having a good cry in the bathroom! Haha. Love this blog, keep up the great work guys

  2. Lena says...

“decide on what to eat for lunch – 4 hours” so true and I really wonder why and it starts to annoy me … someone needs to explain that to me, please …

  3. Annie K. says...

Have I missed an update about Grace and her family?

She really nails it every week. Thank you!

    • Joanna Goddard says...

they’re reunited and have moved to Austin! xo

  4. Sequoia says...

IDK why but this inspired me to pull myself out of the episode rut I’ve been in lately. I love COJ!!!

  5. Andrea says...

I do argue that going through my pandemic checklist every time I leave the house is responsible for my overall lack of getting sh*t done…

Wipes? Gloves? Mask? Keys? Money? blergh!

  6. Sadie says...

When I rub my eyes I still stop for a second and then continue when I realized I haven’t worn mascara in 6 months.

  7. GoldenMoon says...

    Nailed it. 100%.
Just had my good 25 min cry.

  8. Claire says...

Yes, this is true and real!
What IS the weird time thing that is happening? it’s all a mush, and seems both fast and slow at the same time.

  9. Audrey says...

omg lunch lol. My husband and I are both eating all meals at home everyday during COVID and it’s truly the bane of my existence. Him asking me “what’s for lunch today?” about 1 hour after we finished cleaning up for breakfast sends me into a tailspin.

    • Andrea says...

The only appropriate response is, “I don’t know, what are you making?”

    • Lisa says...

My husband and I were lamenting this today. We moved to the Midwest from Manhattan 3.5 years ago, but when we lived in NYC we ordered delivery 5 or 6 nights a week! Before the pandemic we would order delivery or pick up a quick bite once or twice a week. Now we are cooking all meals (no delivery at all!) And we both miss not having to cook all the time. Ugh. “What’s for dinner?” “I don’t know, pasta?” “Again?” Repeat.

  10. Kate says...

I bought a rotisserie chicken on Monday and set it on the counter and would just pick off pieces and snack here and there as I tried to get other things done. At one point my husband walked through the kitchen and saw it (still in the bag) and asked “is this dinner?” and I said “yup!” God bless the rotisserie chicken.

  11. Jane I. says...

Every single week I am like “Grace, get out of my head!” This is hilarious! :D

  12. Em says...

“No” — my thoughts exactly! hahahaha.

  13. Kara says...

All so good and true. Esp the “No” haha!

  14. Agnès says...

During the lockdown (in France), after a month, I just couldn’t stand the 4 meals a day and we changed dinner for “apero-dinatoire”, which is a special drink and a little something to eat. No one uses plates, it’s only bits and pieces, and it makes every thing easier. (No need to drink alcohol, I don’t, and my 6 y-old doesn’t either; put ice in a glass and it’s a party).

    • Claire says...

This is an excellent idea! bit and pieces and a drink! I am going to write down “apero-dinatoire” on a note and put it on the refrigerator so everyone knows this is now the meal compass. In our house we are lately drifting over to dinner being mostly sandwiches.

    • Erin says...

“Put ice in a glass and it’s a party” — big yes to this!

Related, I’ve purchased more flavored fizzy water during the pandemic than ever before in my life. When my kids are bored, whiny, sick of the whole darn thing, I can say HOW ABUT FIZZY WATER? and they perk up. It’s a tiny thing to look forward to.

    • CN says...

Erin – I use the same fizzy drink trick but on myself, haha! It’s my special thing that I drink once the kids go down :)

    • Amanda says...

Agnes, I love this idea! I just decided to stop drinking for a while and I like the idea of still having a celebration — ice in a glass! — without the drink. Apero “en famille” is such a lovely French tradition.

    • LP says...

Erin & CN – yes yes yes on the fizzy water! Ever since shelter-in-place started, my partner and I started bulk ordering cases of Spindrift. My favorite flavors are their Strawberry, Orange-Mango, and Cucumber. We pour them out into fancy glasses and add a large ice cube (the kind you would use for whisky or a cocktail), and it’s been a nice little afternoon pick-me-up to break up the monotony of the day.

    • Agnès says...

it is fascinating to experience our need for rituals… I’ll have a french aperodinatoire tonight thinking of you all.

  15. Lauren says...

Can relate to this one, hard. Related: When my husband and I want to watch something together on the couch at night, I can almost feel the tumbleweeds rolling through my head as I scrabble to think of something we’d planned to see. So I created a humble Word file, and every time someone mentions something that sounds good to me I do a quick and dirty cut and paste to that folder, which is a LOT more helpful than sitting around staring at the ceiling and hoping I remember the name of the show about the thing that I heard about somewhere in the last two weeks.

    • Sara says...

Yes! I do this too, but on the Notes app on my phone.

Also great for book recommendations I read in CoJ comments 😀

  16. Robin says...

Oh my goodness, I can relate to the lunch one. Meals have become an emotional battle for me lately. There are so many in a day, every day!

  17. jeannie says...

This made me laugh. Especially the one about lunch!
