    Dear Jessica Olien,
Why did it take me this long to click through to your Instagram account? You precious gem! Your work is relatable yet insightful and in turns, hilarious and heartbreaking. Thank you for sharing your vulnerability with the interweb and this community in particular. Reading your CoJ post about your fertility “journey” (good God I hate that bloody word) made me teary. And you have changed the way I think about wedding dresses forever because yours was amazing. (Sequins ahoy!)

Open new fan appreciation letter over. K bye!

In the last seven days I have
    1. bought a new giant cozy scarf from an artist friend
    2. finally figured out how to not be afraid of pie crust and have made two batches of hand pies with apple filling AND a quiche
2a. baked a batch of The Cookie by Allison Roman
2b. made the Milk Bar Pie to freeze for Thanksgiving
    3. got out my good space heater from the basement to put by my reading chair, and finally
    4. insisted on Very Close Sitting while watching the late night shows.
So, yes, yes to all of this, you have just described my week to a T!

      love that, kate!

I live on Kauai, and “winter” officially starts for me when my coconut oil solidifies, haha!

    • Sharon says...

Hahaha, I can relate! In Florida I’m also bummed to realize the coconut oil is liquid when April hits…

I love all things Winter and cozy, though that likely has to do with the fact that we never get below freezing. Here’s to savoring each and every short, dark, cloudy and cozy day.

  7. Andrea says...

Only 13 more weeks of Daylight Savings time!

    • Sarz says...

YES!! Now that’s my kind of countdown! xD

    • Joanna Goddard says...

haha i keep telling myself, we only have to make it to December 21st and then it will start getting lighter every day!

  8. Jessica says...

    And I love it all!

OMG! The multiple sources of heat is a THING. My husband just gifted me a heated blanket for my birthday and it has changed the game of our nightly Netflix binge.

  10. michelle says...

That lady in the chair is me. I’m always cold. I can’t find a happy medium though. The thermostat at work is 72. At home when I go upstairs to the master bedroom since heat rises the 74 on our thermostat feels like 80. I can’t win!

  11. Jess says...

Literally as I read this, I am sitting in my toddler son’s room because it’s the warmest room in the house. I have his blanket over my legs and his space heater pointed at me on high while I try to get work done and he’s at daycare! I laughed out loud. East coast transplant to Idaho…still getting used to the freezing winters…and falls!

  12. Heather says...

“Heightened need for affection” reminds me of my mom. Growing up, she said she could tell when the house was too cold because the kids would all come to her for hugs.

Last year, someone on this blog (in a post? a comment?) referred to winter as a season for self-care, and reading that transformed my relationship with the cold, dark Boston winter after 12 years here. I was actually slightly sad (!) when the warm weather arrived because I no longer had the same intentionality around taking baths, lighting candles in the evening, etc. Thank you for that!

  13. Denise says...

So true but when I first read the title I thought it said Signs of Crazy season. LOL!

    • KL says...

      I mean, potato potahto, right?!

  14. maywyn says...

    Absolutely love this!
    I’m adding soup recipes.
