Talking of kettles, our favourite (we are on our 3rd) is the Capresso H20 plus glass kettle. Fast boil for instant coffee, tea and cooking.

  2. Graes says...

ps. Nespresso has their pods made in aluminum. They give you a recycling bag that can contain 200 used pods and can either be dropped off at their store or any UPS and they are sent to a recycling plant.

  3. Graes says...

I just bought the Nespresso Expert when I went in and intended to get the Essenza mini. Now, even my husband and oldest son use it. Great buy.

  4. Gilli says...

The Nespresso machine and frother are a great deal! I paid $99 just for my frother so that is an amazing price!! I love to use my Nespresso machine when I just want a cup of decaf in the afternoon or to make cappuccino for company!

  5. Louisa says...

    J. Crew is 40% off and “an additional 10% off” — so that’s actually 46% off – not 50%. :)

    • Joanna Goddard says...

      good point, louisa!

    • edie says...

I was never great at math :) Can you explain this? I’m so curious how it doesn’t add up to 50%.

    • Louisa says...

      I love talking math!

Imagine they had said: “50% off — and an additional 50% off your total!” that wouldn’t mean it was 100% off (ie, free) – that would mean a sweater that was $100 would be half off ($50) and then half off of that ($25), for a total discount of 75%.

For this case (40% and 10%), a sweater that was $100 would be 40% off — $60, and then “an additional 10% off,” means take off $6. So $60 – $6 = $54. Which is 46% off the original cost. :)

I thought I’d mention that an artist, Britt Fabello, who had a photo on cupofjo a while back (here: https://cupofjo.com/2017/05/have-a-fun-weekend-links/) has some wonderful art up on her etsy page (also, if you follow her instagram stories there’s a promo code for 20% off, good for a couple more hours). Her art is really lovely and very affordable. My husband just treated me to an early Christmas present of a few of her acrylic pieces :)

    • Thanks Kat! <3

I have those Sam Edelman booties in Putty and they are SO comfortable. Like, beyond comfortable, and the color is spot on. However, I will say that after a season and a half, they are looking pretty rough. The brown on the heel and toe started wearing quickly, and I wasn’t able to wear them with dressier outfits because of it. The suede doesn’t look too hot either, but that is suede I guess. If you want boots that look well worn and super casual after a season, then you’d probably be happy with them. I still love them for casual outfits, but they look like WELL LOVED shoes. xo

    • Jen says...

I have had them for about the same amount of time, and mine have held up really, really well. I am wearing them today in fact! Go ahead and nab ’em. You’ll be glad!

  8. So, I did some research and found an article written here on underwear, and by the coupled inspiration of that article with another I found on Bleubird Blog about underwear (she buys new pairs every year), I decided to try the microfiber collection at Madewell with both the Black Friday sale and today’s Cyber Monday sale. It was such a good deal, so I’m hoping I’ll be happy with everything. I also bought the microfiber bras in both black and pastel to keep it all matching, because I am that kind of person. I previously used Third Love’s seamless bra, and it’s very comfortable but the size they suggested was a little too big and they’re not as affordable as Madewell was this past weekend. Maybe in a couple of years I’ll try Third Love again.

  9. Jenny Newcomb says...

Now some may scoff at Old Navy, but everything is 50% off there today. I get stuff for my kids from there all the time- their clothes are pretty much trashed by the time they grow out of them so why spend so much money on them when Old Navy has super cute stuff for cheap?

  10. Yaaaaas to all the Shopbop sales. Literally buying everything Acne right now on there haha Awesome round up girl!

    xx, mel

  11. Tara Kreider says...

I gotta know if the sweater in the first photo is for sale somewhere…?

  12. MA says...

I have those boots in black and LOVE them. So comfortable. I call them my “elevator” shoes because I can wear them with anything and look more polished (i.e., they “elevate” my style).

  13. I scored some Petty boots at a thrift shop last year and wear them constantly. So comfortable and they make everything look more polished.

  14. chelsa williams says...

the boots are fantastic! i own them in 3 colors – putty, black, camel. they are versitale and comfortable. the putty is such a clever neutral!

  15. thebedstuyowl says...

Also have this exact pair of booties (wearing them right now) and several colleagues of mine also have them. They are perfect.

    • Emme says...

Agree! Get a Bialetti Moka pot like a true Italian. It costs a fraction of cost of the Nespresso maker and the coffee is much better. And most importantly, it doesn’t generate wasteful plastic cups.

    • Cynthia says...

You can actually buy a reusable filter that goes in a Keurig so you can use ground coffee. My daughter used to work in a place that had a Keurig in the break room, and she didn’t want to spend money on K-cups. Bed, Bath, and Beyond carries them.

    • Anouk says...

Totally agree! And Nestlé is especially evil… I love my French press, so quick and so tasty!

    • Agree with the part about the waste. Thank you for thinking about how much waste is generated before making a purchase!

    • Sarah says...

Second vote for Bialetti. So quick and easy. Our trick is having an electric tea kettle (like everyone has in the UK) so the water heats up quickly and safely and when you use the Bialetti with hot water, it makes the coffee lickety split. Electric Tea kettle is actually my #1 must have kitchen gadget at this point.

    • Alice says...

In response to Sarah- I’m an Englishwoman, and I only found out this year that a lot of Americans don’t have kettles (which what we call electric tea kettles… as a side note, why add the extra words?! It’s not an electric clothes iron, for instance!). It BAFFLES me so much. I literally couldn’t function as an adult without one. How do you boil water for cooking otherwise!? I’m confused and amused by the whole thing, and I’m glad you see their virtues now! :)

    • Sarah says...

Alice, I wonder if you will see this comment, but wanted to respond that for whatever reason, having a basic non-electric whistling tea kettle that heats on the stove top is the general standard in the US—which is why I called it an electric kettle! I spent some happy time living in London some years back which is where I learned that every household there seems to come standard with an electric kettle and it struck me initially as an unnecessary extra gadget on the counter. But now I now truly think it’s the only gadget I never want to live without again!

  16. R says...

Does Alex not read your website? I’ve always wondered when you mention surprising him with things! (I think if my S had a blog, I’d be too curious to not read it…)

Also, I’ve had a few pairs of those boots, and they are fabulous and go with just about everything.

    • Joanna Goddard says...

he reads it for sure, but knows not to click on links like that! :)

and YES i’ve loved those boots so much every since my friend kendra would always wear them: https://cupofjo.com/2014/10/four-fall-outfits-2/

  17. Steph says...

I own those Sam Edelman boots and I LOVE them. I wear them to work and going out. They are comfortable and the perfect height. Get them!

  18. Karly says...

Definitely go with the Nespresso! I’ve had a few over the years, but I find that specific model the sturdiest.

    • Joanna Goddard says...

      thanks for the insight, karly!

    • Alisa says...

I just bought a Nespresso (but one from the Virtuo line) and it might be the best thing I’ve purchased in a while… and you can send back the used capsules (for free) to be recycled.

  19. Amanda says...

The Sam Edelman boots are great but I find they run a bit narrow in the toe. Have worn my pair from 2 years ago many many times but always have to think about a very thin sock in them!

  20. Allison Leedie says...

Everything at the Gap is 50% off. Their workout gear is my jam.

    • Joanna Goddard says...

      thank you, allison!
