My first heartbreak in a nutshell. Well done!

Ahhh I love this! Break ups suck, but all of these things definitely make it a LITTLE better – particularly the empathetic listeners :)

When your heartbreak is in remission, go on a long trip and experience new food and culture.
Love this.

So apt. My relationship just ended this weekend too. January is the hardest month.

Love this.
I’m suffering heartbreak of a different kind – a miscarriage. But this still hits the right notes
I am so sorry. I am very familiar with the pain of that loss. I hope you can take all the time and space you need for your heart to process and your body to recover.
Love it! I also recommend for recently single folks to ditch their ex. So many people stay friendson Facebook or still follow them on social media. Ditch, ditch, ditch. It’s not doing you any favors and is causing more heartache by watching them live their lives! Just worry about you, pay no attention to the rest.

Agreed. The best thing i did was block him on twitter.
I love Mari Andrew. This definitely applies to heartbreak of all kinds, as the internet and alcohol have not been my friends in the aftermath of the election, but food and friends have bolstered me.
That couldn’t have come to a better time… my boyfriend for 5.5 years just ended our relationship – totally unexpected for me.
Caroline’s seven-step guide to heartbreak was already extremely helpful in the last days but this is a great summary!
Although I would allow internet for Netflix… at least as immediate painkiller (not permanent drug) ;-)
Oh Larissa I feel your pain and I’m so sorry you’re going through this hard time! Take comfort knowing that many before have been there and have survived and have, in fact, come out even stronger. The pain is real and I am validating it through and through, but it does get easier with time and sooner than you think, you’ll be on the road to recovery and finding yourself again! Sending you lots of love and hugs :)
Thinking of you, Larissa, wherever you are and wishing you well. If you are reading this, it is because you are a thoughtful, wonderful woman and you will be okay soon. The sisterhood (and brotherhood?!) of Cup of Jo is with you in spirit. xo
You are the best! Really, thanks so much for this unbelievable community! One would never guess how much a comment of a total stranger can mean/help… :)
A great list as we all head towards January 20.
So true! The internet is fine when browsing Pinterest or inspirational blogs *ahem* *wink* but… stay away from social media, esp. your ex’s profile!
You will totally survive Chuck E Cheese, it is my 6 year old son’s favorite birthday memory :)
You will totally survive Chuck E Cheese. To this day it is my lego fanatic 6 year old son’s favorite birthday memory. :)
Perfect timing and a great reminder!
geeze the timing of this is perfect. I’ve got all the heartbreak. Romantic, family and my beloved country.
I’d also add buying one thing that makes you feel pretty… (new make-up, hair product, pretty bra…) or new sheets. Just something fresh and new.
I’m right there with you Kendra… Too much heartbreak this year.
Hahaha, I’d add: “At least one song that makes you sob and sing along in a cathartic manner, a la Bridget Jones’ Diary”
*with bottle of Vodka in hand* ; )
headphones, bathroom mirror, watching myself cry. Totally has happened before. Or good cry in the shower
As much as I love the internet, I 100% agree with avoiding it in the case of any sort of heartbreak.

Thanks for this! I was in tears last night because I am broken hearted for our country. This is a good reminder to take good care of myself during this upsetting time.
Genevieve, I cried in my car all the way to work the day after President Obama’s final speech. It’s such a hard time however I have hope that we will be resilient as a country and that this too shall pass. My heart goes out to Hillary especially next week.
So good!
