I’m 53. My fuck off fund would have had to have been in the bank in 1982 to have saved me from….this. my life. it’s not awful, but it’s not how it should have played out, either. Tell all your daughters to read this. then tell them how to do it. I had no one to tell me, or even show me how it’s done. I was the first storyline. I still am.

Ha, I always think the salads are better at my house :). Maybe the quality of the restaurants I go to? My secrets – a variety of greens, especially herbs, is good if you have it but I’ll also finally chop in a leaf or two or kale or chard. My son loves the chard stems sprinkled on the salad like celery! Pretty and a little sweet. Also, almost always, some kind of fruit and some kind of nut or seed. Most of the year I’ll put in apple and squeeze over some lemon and sprinkle on roasted pumpkin seeds, but there are a thousand other combos. Then the easiest vinaigrette – in a jar, put in some oil, 1/2 to an equal amount vinegar, depending how sour you like your dressings (lately I’ve been using red wine but whatever good stuff you have), a dollop of whole grain Dijon, salt and pepper. Screw on the cap and shake. I don’t know why anyone mixes dressing any other way. Lately we’ve been dressing our salads individually so we can make lots and have it in the fridge ready to go (instead of sad leftovers getting soggy in the bowl) but I agree, big bowl, tossed well and not too much dressing is the best of you know you’ll eat it all. Mmm.

I chuckled at your mention of Nana Camp….My husband and I have had my almost-seven-year-old grandson all week. I had grand plans, but we’ve mostly struggled to survive! We’re definitely looking forward to getting our peace and quiet back, though I think (hope!) we’ll look back on this week with smiles.

‘Catastrophe’ is one of my all-time favourite programmes. The humour is so cringe-worthy and, at times, true to life. Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney are such clever writers; I saw Rob Delaney at a comedy festival last year and it was in the same vein – really hilarious.

I’m so glad you posted this story about the F off fund!!! Telling my daughter tomorrow-even though she is only starting in high school.

Love the fuck off fund link! I think it would be great for your site to post more about financial literacy and financial independence for women. It can be kind of a heavy subject, but surely one that your target audience would be interested in reading about.

I had a fuck-off fund (though I didn’t call it that)! And I have kept $1500 of it in an individual money market account all through my marriage. (In truth, I had more in there when I first got married, but ten years later spent a chunk on some very expensive shoes that were not in the family budget.) I’ve always kept my own checking account, too, but that fund is earmarked precisely for extraordinary, not everyday, life.

Oh my gosh. I just binged Catastrophe and it’s pretty much all I can talk about. I’m dying for the next season to start! I usually hate shows that are “too real,” as I like my entertainment to be an escape, but it’s just so good. It’s so hilarious and moving. The writing is amazing. There’s an episode where Sharon is struggling to find friends and I wanted to be like “I’LL BE YOUR FRIEND!” But then I remembered she’s not real and I was sad.
