Four Great Things

Michelle Obama broke the Internet this morning when she went on Carpool Karaoke with James Corden. They dance to Beyoncé and Missy Elliott, and she talks about grilled cheese, her husband and education for girls.

Have you been to any of the 50 most beautiful places in America? Makes me want to take a road trip. (That’s Virginia, above.)

California students will now get to learn about LGBT history in school, after a unanimous vote by the California State Board of Education. “It allows all students to think critically and expansively about how that past relates to the present and future roles that they can play in an inclusive and respectful society,” said Don Romesburg, framework director for the Committee on LGBT History. Thumbs up all around.

Last but not least, Hobes has a new shoe color: dust. How cute are those?

Samantha, we have friends and family members (including my daughter) that are LGBT. So to see them represented within a school’s curriculum in a time where there are still hurdles to overcome in the US, is affirming to the LGBT community. (Actually, students should be learning more about underrepresented groups in US history- positive and negative across the board….but I digress). I’m not sure where the 4% of the population statistic came from but talking to my daughter and her friends, there are so many in her crowd and I suspect others in the world who don’t feel comfortable letting others know what their status is, so I think we would be surprised that the number is much higher than that. Anyways, my two cents…I think it’s a long time coming and I hope the rest of our country follows suit.

So proud of my home state~ way to go CA! on the flip side, growing up there, I never got the chance to visit Big Sur. So seeing it on the slide show is inspiring me to make my way back there very soon. And can Michelle Obama just be my best friend? She’s the most relatable First Lady ever…

Unfortunately, the closer you get to the coast, the higher your cost of living! My husband and I live in San Francisco, and LOVE the city but are seriously considering moving somewhere out of state so we can buy a house and live more comfortably. Not possible here, even with our six-figure income. It’s definitely a catch-22. Best of luck to you and your fam! :)

How is the arch support/footbed padding in Hobes? They’re adorable but they look like they might not be supportive for lots of walking. Please tell me I’m mistaken!

i think they’re so comfy because they’re like being barefoot, but they definitely don’t have much arch support. if you were walking long distances, you might want to get something more supportive. hope that helps!

what are the hobes soles like? Are they good for walking 10 kilometres? are they made of leather or wood (something besides rubber)? Couldn’t find a photo on their site.
