Wine Pearls

I have never used wine pearls before, but I’m a big fan of the corksicle. It’s basically a cork, with a plastic icicle attached to it. You toss it in the freezer, open your bottle of wine and plop it in. It Keeps the entire bottle cool while it sits out on the table – super handy!

I’ll have to give these a try, I love the corksicle and these seem like a great alternative for just a glass!

My fiancé uses whiskey stones so I use those to cool down white wine. Same concept. He bought them after I gave him a hard time for watering down his whiskey with ice cubes ;)

I work at a bottle shop/ tasting room and the industry secret for quickly chilling a bottle is to fill a bucket with ice, some water, and salt. Whites, Rosés, and Sparklings are ready to enjoy in 5 minutes!

If you dampen a paper towel and wrap it around the bottle, you only need to stick it in the freezer for 10-15 minutes and it’ll be cold! I do that when I come home from the grocery store and want some of the beer or wine I just bought but can’t wait for it to cool down, and don’t want to use ice cubes. Works like a charm!

Love the wine pearls! Until now, I’ve only heard of whiskey stones, which I’ve kept in my freezer for years now, and they have the same effect! I love the rustic look they have (http://www.amazon.com/Teroforma-1220-Whisky-Stones/dp/B002GZX2DE), but since the wine pearls are so elegant looking, I might have to pick up a few and put them to use on wine and cheese night!

Do you ever eat them frozen? My kids love them! They think they’re a fun frozen treat, like tiny green popsicles. I loved them as a kid, and weirdly, every kid I’ve given them to has gobbled them up!

And now we use something similar to the sophisticated set you referenced except that we still call them “footballs”.
Common question in our house ….”is the wine chilled properly or do you need a football?”

Here’s another good idea – instead of tossing leftover bubbly (champagne, cava, sparkling wine), freeze it in ice cube trays for cooling down but not watering down your not quite cold enough white wine. Same for leftover white wine (if that ever happens to you, it happens seldom here). I also use any leftovers for cooking but still, adding another idea to the mix!

That is exactly my freezer 10 minutes before dinner every night! Why don’t we just keep wine in the fridge to begin with?

They look heavy, like they might break the glass if they fall against the side when you drink! But I happen to be a huge fan of adding an ice cube to my wine, provided it’s white or rosé and not something especially fine. Most new-world wines are too big and concentrated for my taste, and are often improved by adding a spoonful of water, so an ice cube gets the job done in a more refreshing sort of way. And it’s common to add ice to wine in the south of France when it’s hot out, which makes it officially okay, right? ;)

Amen. I have heard of people freezing grapes, but haven’t actually tried it. I’m a fan of whiskey rocks, which is the same idea, but I’ve never used wine pearls.

Wrap your bottle of wine with a wet paper towel, and stick it in the freezer. Ice cold in 10 minutes! Probably not best when you have company since you’ll be left with frozen paper towel stuck to the bottle, but it really works!
