Hahaha. My partner and I always argued how to open it up the “right” way and I am seeing I was wrong all along. He always would tell me that monkeys know best…
I’m so gonna try this tonight! When I was a kid and had trouble with opening a banana at school, the 1st grade teacher would always come around to help – she’d draw a zipper on the banana in pen and the force of the pen drawing on the peel would weaken it in that spot so when you tried to peel it, it would always split right on the zipper! I LOVED it!

I can totally relate with the challenge of getting a banana open from the stem, but now…my eyes are opened. Thank you for posting this video! :-D
a friend showed me this a few years ago and i couldn’t believe how much easier it is to open it this way! the stem makes the perfect handle too.
I just want to say that I tried this yesterday and found it to be no more effective than my old method of peeling from the stem. Just saying… =P
that’s pretty great, though i’m more a fan of the illogical-yet-totally-works ‘banana flick,’ where you hold the banana from the stem but upside down, curved toward you, and whip it forward so the weight of the banana splits the skin from the stem. ta-da!(?)

Hahaha… my boyfriend tried to make me peel my banana like a monkey the other day, and I was like, I’m not a monkey! I’ll stick to peeling it my way! :D
