I’ve been feeling a little uninspired ever since we got back from Paris. (It can be hard to get back into the swing of things, don’t you think?) So, I’d love to know: What inspires you? xo
P.S. Inspirational reads.

inspired by small acts of kindness like generosity without an expected return;autumn air and scenery; laughter of children in a movie theater; Eleanor Roosevelt (she rocks or rocked rather) and many other things that end up as colors on my canvass
I get inspired alot from my Childhood. Growing up together with my siblings, my mum. They are on my mind daily and I have a lot of happy memories. Its nice to think about them.
I also get inspired things I see on my way to work, what I read in the newspapers and from my friends.
Mauritius, I went there recently and its beautiful, quiet and clean. First time I’ve been away from New York and not wanted to return…
I like to get a cup of coffee and go to a big retail bookstore and wonder around the fiction section. Sometimes it’s the title that catches me (don’t flip it over, just enjoy what you think it’s about), but usually it’s the cover art. Good covers are really fun, but bad covers are better because I want to design a new cover for it. Thinking about why the cover failed and what would make it look better gives my head a goal, something to work for while it’s warming up.
estates sales, flea markets, old books, magazines, wonderful bloggers like you, my family. it’s funny how inspiration comes & goes, isn’t it? i have days where i’m totally uninspired and others it’s overflowing. enjoy your weekend!
along the same lines as blog reading: i love when i can sit for a while by myself and look through magazines, clipping, cutting, and pasting beautiful things and ideas into my inspiration journal. it’s like my own personal collection of beautiful and inspirational things i can come back to over and over again.
I know how you feel…I think it’s the good weather one day, bad weather the next that contributes to it…but it happens to me sometimes too. Last week I went to the Met though and I felt this crazy surge of creativity. I live in NY and don’t get to the museums nearly enough. why? I made a pact to go to one or to a gallery or concert or show at least once every two months. I think I can swing it but who knows…sometimes all you need to do is walk down a street in Manhattan and notice the details and suddenly you can feel inspired. Esp in your beautiful neighborhood! :)

Ohmygoodness, I haven’t been in the blogesphere in a few months. YOU inspire me! Photography, color, magazines and nature inspires me.

I find music most inspiring.
Check out Ian Bostridge singing Schubert’s “Du bist die Ruh”
or, to get your blood pumping
Dawn Upshaw’s “Tancas serradas a muru” off of her Ayre CD
Enjoy! Hope it helps: )

Walk around a book store- travel down every isle of the topics that interest you. I promise, you will have a head FULL of ideas by the etime you leave.
Art, beauty, nature, books, movies, friends, blogs sometimes rest.
unexpected surprises around corners that just decided to make an appearance in your life today.
So many things…
Notably,
bouncing ideas back and forth with my fiance.
walking/biking/riding a bus through the city, making notes of things that interest me.
taking photographs…framing things in a different way than I originally saw them.
sifting through beautiful blogs like yours!
seeing a need and trying to fill it.
taking time outside to just breathe.
I hope you find your inspiration! =)

What inspires me? A Cup of Jo every morning!
So many things inspire me! The best ones are a surprise!
I love connecting with people, because I frequently find amazing people with great stories.
I love art in all its glorious forms!
I love nature because you can learn so much…even from a tiny ant!
I try to keep a curious and open mind…to learn everything I possibly can…which keeps me inspired all the time!
I feel inspired just talking about it! Yeah…I’m a little geeky!
Have a lovely day!
Love, colour, outdoors and the internet!
My son, my book (Maguerite Duras, paul auster, Jacques prevert, …) , cooking cakes, watching the weather changing in the sky, art exhibition, Fabrics, my darling, and actually a “Friend at first sight” who a raï singer…

Taking my bicycle out for a spin. It helps clear my head and it’s great way to see the same old places in a new way.
I would agree with the TED talks, too that someone mentioned above. I would also agree that ART of all kinds is inspiring. My friend’s brother is doing amazing art all around the world. He just had a showing at the Pompidou. http://www.jr-art.net The trains in Kenya are my favorite.

I LOVE YOUR BLOG!!
I now this may seem weird, but read Emerson or Whitman… Every time I read them, I get an entirely new outlook on things. Reading Self Reliance inspires me every time.
And if that doesn’t work… investigate the art of bread. One of my favorite things in the world is eating a delicious baguette (though this may just remind you that you’re not in Paris any more).
Good luck!

Inspiration changes day to day- today it is classical music even though I have rarely listened to it this last year.
cool wind along with soft instrumental music makes my day :)
French movies
nature, music (bob dylan), poetry, reading (currently the unbearable lightness of being), exploring! great movies and family.
oh, and painting! coloring! art!
hope you scoop out of that slump .. sending happy thoughts to you from the road, doll :-)

A walk around the city. You see people doing various things or somthing unique in the environment which can spark ideas.
Food! Try something you’ve never tried before, quick!
my family and friends, the thought of the final result, life itself, a happy mood, a lyric of a song..
anything.
Beautiful blogs like yours and sometimes some random overheard conversations. They can be very hilarious to begin with, but then you’ll start thinking, “Hey he’s right!”
I tend to be bored and depressed and eat a lot when I get home from vacation. SO I have to run (even though I’m a terrible runner) in order to feel motivated enough to eat well and get anything accomplished.
And as always, blogs motivate me! :)

light and love.
Beautiful weather, the ocean, love, the color pink, art, tulips, old recipes…
Downloading a new podcast, taking a long walk to a thrift store, and browsing my way through clothes, vintage pyrex, picture frames…and finding something pretty to take home!
the ocean, bright colors, blogs I can escape in, a great cup of coffee, farmer’s markets, fresh laundry, evening candles, sunsets with my lover(hubby), Oatmeal with fresh blueberries-almonds-brown sugar, fresh mint for mojitos, sunrise with little hands waking me, a road trip with great tunes, forehead kisses and laughter.
practicing yoga with good music playing in the background and also a call to a girlfriend who ‘gets’ me; both these things help me push through.
…not giving in when the rain doesn’t stop. the grey mist of memories. pablo neruda. the way things can change. soft light. growth. unconditional love. the color purple. local independent businesses. gut-wrenchingly hard work. a perfect margarita on a blazing hot summer’s day with inimitable friendships. laughter to tears.
i needed that. thank you-
betsy
a really amazing estate with a large lawn – specifically the crane estate outside of boston. it’s so drop dead gorgeous!
The complexity, simplicity, and overall unity of nature…=)
I like to clean. If I’m having a hard time coming up with fresh ideas, I stop, start cleaning, and keep doing that until I get new ideas. Generally with awesome music, too!
the beach, surfing, reading, hiking, good theatre, friends, and my brother.
keepsakes, quotes, photographs, being outside, the beach, my family :)
I’ve just gotten back from an amazing month overseas and found it hard to re-engage with life here, but one thing that has proved a pleasant surprise is that I went to some AMAZING cities, and it’s made me realise that the one I live in ain’t so bad after all.
I’ve reconnected, albeit slowly, by making time to do all the things I love about my town, such as have amazing coffee every day, walking around the city and taking pictures of the lights, cuddling up in my bed reading, staring out of the window sitting in my favourite armchair, etc.
So, I’d suggest making a list of things you love about NYC and doing one of those things every day – it won’t take long to love your life again! xo
Joanna,
Wow! First, I hope you thoroughly enjoyed your Paris trip. Coming down off that one is tough…
It’s tough for me after spending a few hours by the ocean!! :D
I’ve recently gotten into the French, Marie Claire Idees!
It’s filled with LOADS of ideas plus just wonderfully, colorful photographs. I usually search far and wide to get my hands on an issue; they are just marvelous.
It was an inspiration for my most recent blog entry… crocheting colorful posies.
I wish you the very best!
My husband and my daughter. There is nothing like both of their smiles.
for starters, joanna, your blog. you’ve got a nice pulse on the fanciful, pretty things floating around the interwebs. the talents of my friends. travel. kansas breathing space. zero breathing space in NYC. the fact that history does not always have to repeat itself. pretty gals in pretty clothes. etc., etc., etc…
the lovely little girl in the pink tutu inspires me. i was once that little girl. ballet lessons here i come!!
hmm. i like keeping a scrap book and have a little muji note pad next to my screen to jot down random ideas. and i have my camera with me at all times – it makes me see things differently and often triggers ideas.
also random snippest of conversation i overhear on the street or on the train ;)
Love this entry. I’m inspired by:
music,
my friends,
my husband,
talking to emerging designers about their work because they have so much PASSION,
art,
other blogs!
xoxo
I guess what inspires me the most is the sky, the clouds, the sea…

here’s an instant cure for inspiration-loss: Image Spark. http://www.imgspark.com
The creators made the site specifically to organize their inspiration, and were kind enough to open it up to the less-than-inspired public.
I feel like a billboard, but I am soooo addicted.
Looking around a bit more carefully when I’m out. I just discovered there are buttercups and bluebells on my walk to the train station each morning – along the train tracks.
life it self…
in the smallest things…
every day!
i hear ya sister! i’ve been the same the past couple of days…changing weather maybe? my inspiration is just walking around…either in the city or the mall. inspiration doesn’t have to come from glamorous places or people! just from the little things…and it really happens when you least expect it. patience! xo
Grey and white interiors with beautiful hardwood floors and pops of yellow. My friends. The sun (it’s been hiding for the last month and decided to make an appearance today). All the blogs I read.
But I hear you. I’m having a really hard time getting my act together when it comes to being inspired at work (as a designer). It’s just about killing me.
i’ve been reading “the sharper your knife the less you cry” by kathleen flinn… it’s amazing! it is about an american who goes to paris to enroll in the Le Cordon Bleu culinary school in paris!
it’s inspired me to cook more and to go for your dreams…quotes also inspire me:)
“If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast.”
Ernest Hemingway
I am inspired by my ocean visits, only 2.5 blocks away :), and the twinkling eyes and smiles and hugs from my niece and nephew, ages 4 and 8.
