i did not vote for Obama. “a friend to all is a friend to none.” He tries to please everyone and his political correctness gets in the way. iam sure there are many disappointed voters out there today. the change we wish to see will have to wait longer.
except that the original poster from which this is derived implied that women who were apart of the movement had to have sex with any many that was able to avoid the draft, regardless as to weather or not they wanted to. the poster is obliviously sexist, which is the worst type.
I know I’m really late on the game on this one… but I just wanted to point out that this poster is a re-interpretation of one Joan Baez did during Vietnam to promote draft resistance. The original slogan was “Girls say yes to boys who say no.”
I have just run across this post, I don’t know how I missed it.
Pro-choice does not mean pro-abortion. Democrats are not sluts by association. The poster is fun and is (supposed to be, if you’d let it) lightening the situation.
I am completely bored by your ingorance, previous generation.
That is all, carry on with your weekday lives. Sunday is four days away and you have all the time in the world to judge before you must repent. Off you go!
Being a non-US citizen it is so funny to read your comments.
Outside, we see Sarah Palin as a dumb person, McCain as an old, outdated person and Obama as a movie star.
None of them is actually right for the job, but the idea of you americans choosing someone even dumber than Bush for the job just scares us all…
Fabulous poster! I am really hoping for some change around here!

In response to Jane’s comment (“yes, girls say yes because if they get preggers Mr Obama thinks its great to murder the unborn child as a form of birth control. How progressive and intelligent. Jane”)
What about the fact that when Palin was mayor of Wasilla, the city billed sexual assault/rape victims and their insurance companies for the cost of rape kits and forensic exams (upwards of a grand for the victim, typically)? But even aside from that, what about McCain’s voting record on issues like equal pay for women and availability of contraceptives (http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=110&session=2&vote=00110 & http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=108&session=1&vote=00045)
So, tI’m curious – how might a woman go about getting this birth control you’ve mention under a McCain administration? You know, to prevent the “murder” of an unborn child?
Plus, I don’t think this image had much to do with abortion anyway.
Hey… this poster is great! Its about freedom of choice and expression and freedom of speech.
I already voted for OBAMA and I didn’t not vote for him because he is all over the place…..(maybe that is because so many people like him) I don’t see the anti-Obama’s complaining about Palin being all over the place when she first appeared on the scene?? what happened? So now that she is losing her 15 minutes of fame, all the anti-obama people needed a new celebrity on their team, Welcome= Joe the plumber. Ha!!
Anyhow…..OBAMA inspires, wants unity, peace, to help those less fortunate, believes in the American dream, is a loving father and husband, smart, well poised, captivating, handsome, strong, good sense of humor, very driven, loves his country, is definitely a leader and I believe would make a great president.

I am voting for McCain and very proud of it…no “anonymous” here!
I have no hateful comments to make…just sadness after reading the other comments. :(
“There is Love.” -CT
Obama = God
Sarah Palin doesn’t support women – that is what’s scary. Not that she has been successful – that is admirable in most ways.
Crying socialism vs. capitalism is simplifying things to an embarrassing degree. Please DO do the research and vote for the issues you care about, not your tax bracket.
Another McCain-Palin supporter here! I enjoy this blog -but don’t agree with the posters intent. It’s clever in design/concept, but debases women.
I actually think Sarah Palin is a great example of true feminism, she has a family and an amazing career! I don’t know why that scares so many women?
Thanks for the great discussion!
I just posted my vote for obama in today. Now i just gotta find one of the girls in the picture :)
uh, i came back to say that i am absolutely 100 % pro obama – especially after all the anonymous comments (seems like they are a little ashamed of their opinion?)
i just do not think the poster says it right – from a feminist point of view ,-)
Cute poster, very talk-able.
Although the photography on this poster is the cutest, it didn’t quite resonate with me as something grand. “Girls say Yes to boys who say Obama” doesn’t paint a pretty picture of Girls in my mind.
I’m definitely for Obama but I am saddened about his stance on gay rights issues, being a Queer female. So it is hard for me to sport his shirts and buttons and posters even though I want him to win…badly. :(
What do you all think?
:)

Why doesn’t everyone stop posting things anonymously? If you are SO proud of your viewpoints and your support for John McCain, then voice your opinion and don’t be ashamed of it. It is just SO strange how many anonymous comments there are about this topic.
GO OBAMA! I am so proud to support a candidate who believes in a woman’s right to choose her own path.
Looking at all of these posts, maybe the discussion did branch off into another direction other than a light hearted comment on how women feel about the possiblity of a VP, a woman no less, that wishes to take away a woman’s right to choose. I get that and I don’t know of any women in my circle who would want to put anyone in a constrained position when it comes to their reproductive health.
I guess when you are a few decades! older than the women in the poster, you just feel for them and the overall flippancy of the subject matter, which does not get much more serious than a person’s body.
Anyway, I just cannot understand how the essence of the election for the most powerfully political position in the entire world, can be drilled down into one issue – reproductive health.
I am so sick of reproductive rights and homosexuality being on the frontburner. I mean there are children in this country who go to bed hungry night after night – many are able to eat only at school. Why don’t people get passionate about other social issues? Something to think about…
May the best candidate win.
Me too! Now go vote girls and guys!! (I’m going to vote early today!!)
Oops..that wasn’t Lucy who posted it. It was another anon post. Anyway…socialism will be the downfall of our nation. NO OBAMA!!
Lucy said it best. I WILL NOT vote for Obama. God have mercy on our great country.
i must admit, my first reaction to the poster was that it was extremely sexist and that girls should say yes to obama for reasons other than the boys.
but, thanks cake for posting the original link – puts some context to it.
it’s sad to see such hateful reactions in the comments here. love your blog joanna – and i’m voting obama!
we should get back to the point and talk about the original!
wow, quite hornet’s nest you stirred up Jo. Always interesting to see the cries of socialist redistribution of wealth. Where were the shrieks from Truman until Reagan when 90% of national income went to 99% of americans and the richest 1% only got 10%? Talk about the red scourge of socialism. Eisenhower, Kennedy Nixon, Ford; all damned commies.
Thank god Reagan began the redistribution of income so that now 1% gets 23%. If we can just get shift that a bit more so the 1% gets, say 30% think of all the jobs the rich can create kelly.
Let them eat cake!
Love love this! Put a huge grin on my face in a time of stressful studying.
Who doesn’t love a cheeky political poster? I have now saved it away for day when i need a smile on my face. Thank you! x
Yashu: I believe that small print, “Palin is not a woman’s choice,” actually means that women didn’t choose Palin for the VP nomination. Men did, and they did it in order to win female votes, because they believe we are that simple: women vote for women, right?
Wrong. Dead wrong.
So, while I completely agree with your definition of feminism, I want to point out that that small print is actually speaking to the nomination of Palin in the first place.
Joanna, thanks for having a good sense of humor. I appreciate a little laugh as we bear down on the election.
wow, this poster stirred up a lot of comments. interesting read. i love the poster – i think it’s great. thanks for sharing.
Cool poster!
actually i have nothing more to add despite the obvious hostility. but i do hope you have a great day regardless.
xo
Lucy and other silly girls,
You need a economics lesson. Those idiots in Congress should have let it freefall. The consequences of accepting money from the European community canot be good. THEY SOLD OUR COUNTRY PEOPLE! Our banking system went bankrupt people! The US only put in 40% of the bailout money back into the banking system. Where did you think the additional money came from – the toothfairy? This is the beginning of a new world order. The dollar will be officially be gone, in fact they are already making plans to get rid of our quaint dollar bill in favor of a silver coin. Yep, that’s right, you heard it here first. People I talked with said that if the government would have stayed out of it, we would have had a great depression and we would have worked our way out of it. There probably would have been money for the taxpayers in the end. But, noooooooooooooooo, nobody wants to suffer in this land of spoiled brats.
With Obama, this is perfect timing wiht the collapse of the banking system for his people to fully begin to socialize this great nation. Oh goodie, then we can become like the UK, 10% attendance at church and we can all work for Uncle Sam. Oh, brother, this is bad……
I happen to be pro-choice, and get the joke, and think it’s a cute poster.
Yet I’ll be voting for McCain. (Admitting that in certain circles is liable to get one excommunicated.) What irks me most about the poster is its statement re what is “not a woman’s choice”…. Because it *is* a woman’s choice, indeed– i.e. her choice to vote (or not) for either candidate, as she sees fit. Just because a woman is a Republican, or votes for a Republican, or happens to have different political (economic, foreign policy etc.) views from you, does not make her any less (or more) of a woman. And not necessarily any less (or more) of a feminist. It’s insulting to be told (I’ve heard this again & again) that if you’re a “real woman,” or a feminist, then you have no choice– you must vote for Obama. That’s the opposite of feminism (i.e. to presume to dicate how a woman should vote, as a woman). I have good reasons to vote for McCain, as you probably have good reasons to vote for Obama. Respect me, as a woman & citizen, to make that choice for myself. In other words: I’m politically pro-choice, too.
Sorry to come off thin-skinned, in response to a light-hearted post & poster. It’s just that that little line represents a widespread opinion, often expressed much more hatefully, which I find terribly closed-minded, and ultimately not good for women or feminism. Cheers.
Hey New American,
Haven’t you heard, the left is the new right; that is why most people remain anonymous when voicing their opinions regarding the sad, sad, decline in the moral convictions of this great nation, otherwise these’old left-new right’ individuals will get up in arms and attack like wild animals. Don’t need my privacy invaded with such venom, that’s why I remain anonymous. Lefties, believe that their liberal views cannot be questioned or else they go all atwitter…
Anymore comments new american?
p.s. love the poster
i agree with Kaylen, Anonymous 3:53 and A Print a Day. eight days to go and the tension is palpable :)
the poster here is supposed to be funny, as, i’m sure, is a button one of the McCain campaign’s online stores is featuring — it has Palin’s picture on it and says “Coolest State, Hottest VP” (from http://www.johnmccain.com/storelanding/, linked from the official campaign page)…
though they’re funny, are these silly things why anyone’s voting for Obama-Biden or McCain-Palin? are these why anyone wants their significant other to do so? of course not. we’re all smarter than that.
read about the issues, care about your community, vote vote vote!
It’s a bit of a shame that such “pro this candidate” and “pro that candidate” can insight such hostile attitudes. I love this country, and I’m proud to be a new American myself, and I’m truly grateful for the freedoms given to us as citizens. But I also believe that with freedom, it is important to exercise respect toward other people’s choices and beliefs. I respect Ms. Goddard’s choice to post this image. I respect the posters’ and the commenters’ beliefs of pro choice or pro life. What I am irked by is the spattering of hostility under an anonymous guise, and I see this every single time someone posts about either candidate. At this time in our country’s history, the last thing we should share with one another is meanness and hate. It’s one thing to have an opinion and to deliver it with tact. It’s another to shove it down someone else’s throat or attack another without taking into consideration that people have a reason for believing in what they want to believe in.
holy crap i love this!
must buy before my republican in laws come for a visit
This ring of bloggers just tends to be more liberal than conservative, I think. I don’t think it’s just because someone else likes him. He’s not just for celebrities, you know… I think that many people on here are educated on the issues, because they know that they have to be! Granted there will be people who vote for either one candidate or the other because of their judgments of them, but many people are becoming educated on the issues and where everyone stands, simply because THIS PRESIDENTIAL RACE IS KIND OF A BIG DEAL. I’m only 20 and I’m actually doing research, and I actually care about this…and so does the vast majority of students at my college.
I’ve seen so many postings for Obama lately. If one truly believes in Obama, great.
However, I hope there aren’t people who simply assume…well if he’s good enough for Joanna, he’s good enough for me…or if Vera Wang and Marc Jacobs love him, then so do I…or, so many talented artists are supporting him, I’m an artist, then I should support him too…
All over bloggy land I see folks leaving anonymous anti-Obama comments…are we afraid of the repercussion of not being on the Obama team? I feel like so many have bought into the way this man has been marketed…like a celebrity. It’s like if one wants to be “popular” , say Obama…yuck.
Please do your research people!
Don’t let someone else decide for you. This election affects our freedoms, it will affect your life :)
SERIOUSLY. this poster is tongue in cheek and just for fun. ease up!!! and obama would be an amazing pres, he gets my vote for sure.
wow. sexist poster.
so many things to deal with…
girls say yes to boys who say obama? really? attention men, vote for obama and get laid.
why?
oh…well, because (the alternative which includes) sarah palin isn’t a woman’s choice?
why? because she is against abortion being a choice.
oh. well, she’s right. it isn’t a woman’s choice. it isn’t a man’s choice. it isn’t anyone’s choice to take a life.
wish we girls wouldn’t make it feminist issue and realize that it’s a sanctity of life issue.
hearts and a cupcake to you all. from an anti-abortion, anti-war, anti-death penalty, independent party voter NOT voting for obama. and i hate this poster.
love your blog, joanna.
Ashleigh.
hey ana…I was an anonymous person today, not because of anything other than cause I feel like being anonymous. By the way, there wasn’t any thing in my comments that said I HATE Barrack Obama…I’m just not going to vote for him. You have your reasons, I have mine. I am middle-aged, I have been voting since Jimmy Carter, I have owned 7 houses, owned 3 businesses and have lived in NY, CA and AK..yes that is Alaska. So, I know a bit more than a pretty face when I see one and I have heard every argument one could possibly make regarding politics. I just want to keep my hard earned money. That’s all.
ana
while you are gasping, can you say double entendre?
Seven more days…and I can’t wait to vote for Obama and Biden!
(It’s quite telling that all the Obama-haters can’t bear to reveal themselves. I love how girls in cute dresses and *gasp* BARE knees are “promoting sexual promiscuity.” That is pathetic.)
Kelly,
Thanks for communicating what I could not earlier in the post. And I agree that we should be focusing on limited governmental involvement in our lives, and of course that means staying away from our body and our choices. I guess the poster just rankled me in that it plays into the whole notion of ‘silly girls’ thinking that if abortion as a woman’s right is left alone by the Barry Obama camp (hate the name Barrack), that other issues in our lives will also be left alone. I admit an Obama type candidate is needed in our country, but now is not the time. This country is in serious need of a strong and fiscally conservative individual who will not be pushed around by these oil rich countries. Study your history ‘sillie girls’, Obama is a scarry individual at this point in time. He even created what looks like his own presidential seal with that Pepsi looking logo; next he will create his own anthem.
Signed,
Proud American Traditionalist
P.S. The poster has obvious sexual overtones and it is quite repugnant. It takes a moron to not see the relationship it is promoting between sexual promiscuity and proclaiming the right to choose. I mean come on. This poster is nothing to be proud of.
Obama is not about socialism. The bailout was forced socialism because of the Republican resistance to regulation. Now look at the mess. Both candidates are patriotic Americans with differing views. I favor Obama and think he will be an absolute blessing for this country. I also do not think Sarah Palin should be one heartbeat from the presidency. Eveyone is entitled to her own opinion, so let’s all read about the issues, ignore the smears and vote for the candidate who persuades us. Let’s not fight – let’s debate in a civilized way and exercise our right to vote.
I am scared for this country if Obama is elected. I am scared.
Aside from abortion, what about CAPITALISM! This country was founded on an American dream to start your own business and make your own money… It makes me SICK to hear him say “spread the wealth around.” Seriously, ladies. Listen to what this man is saying!!! The thing people don’t realize is that we NEED rich people in this country to provide jobs! As an interior designer, I am reminded of this every day… Can we take a minute and think about the negative effects his ideologies will have on this country?
I feel like I am living in the fable, “The Emperor’s New Clothes.”
Kelly
I was around when women were coming up the ranks in the work force and in politics. Whatever your views, it is disrepectful to all women to show such disregard for Governor Palin by stupid name calling. It shows lack of tolerance and immaturity on your part.
It IS a shame. Personally, I LOVE this poster. I think it’s fantastic. It’s humorous, tongue-in-cheek, and glorious.
And why anyone is bringing up birth control and abortion is beyond me right now. The poster says N-O-T-H-I-N-G about that. At all. Maybe these women are just extreme environmentalists? Bet you didn’t think of THAT!
And Joanna, I think your website is perfect. Like some other people have previously stated, I’m glad you do not shy away from showing your political views. It’s refreshing. Especially because Obama is great, and definitely the best candidate for the job. I would rather have him in office instead of Old Man and Caribou Barbie, by a LANDSLIDE.
thank you so much, natalie! yes, the poster is definitely definitely tongue-in-cheek and is not meant to be taken literally. i completely respect everyone’s opinions about the election. i am voting for obama and am pro-choice. woo!
wow. some of the comments here have become quite ridiculous… i guess that the poster supposed to be slightly tongue-in-cheek and says nothing at all about spreading one’s legs or being proabortion (there isn’t such a thing, anyway). and three cheers for hello gorgeous.
the whole reason we have an election is because every citizen has the right to express their choice. if obama is not your choice, there is no reason to get nasty about it or to imply that those who would vote for him are less intelligent or have fewer moral values than those who would not vote for him.
joanna, thank you for sharing this and i am sorry that so many people are being so harshly critical and trying to read something into this poster or the ‘message’ of your blog that simply isn’t there. it’s a shame really.
It’s the most stupid poster I have seen. Keep spreadin’ your legs honey….cause that is all you are worth. Sad that that is what young women think of themselves. It must have been some dumb ass man that came up that piece of crap idea. You talk the talk about having the right to have an abortion because you are women and yet you think nothing of a poster that depicts women as sluts. I think it is sexist and demeaning.
lol your post is looking fabulous as always :) …
i just needed to tell you that my sister tagged me in the “game of 6 unique things” … one of the rules is that i have to tag 6 people. and i chose one of them to be you!! :)
check out my blog for all the details…
<3
I’m def, voting Obama.
great poster
LOVE IT!!
I love obama and I think this poster is fun!
anyone who equates being pro-choice as being pro-abortion is an idiot. being pro-choice means preserving a citizen’s personal liberty and individual freedom by allowing it to be a CHOICE decided by the actual person it affects. My mother, to name one example, is an extremely traditional woman who would never in a million years have an abortion. But she is adamently pro-choice because she would never dream to have her personal viewpoint imposed on everyone else.
-kr
yes how sad is that.
people are voting for a president as if he was some kind of celebrity.
never mind his background and what he stands for.
if oprah supports him, then he must be right. it’s like the political version of oprah’s book club. whoopee!
thank god i’m not american.
