I have a really active imagination, especially in the middle of the night when I’m sleeping at my apartment alone. I always think that a burglar is creeping in, and one time, someone leaned on the buzzer outside for ten minutes and I almost had a heart attack. This genius lock would be the perfect safeguard!

I think it’d be great on a junk food cabinet…determined diet breakers only! ;) Give you time to let the craving pass… :) soupprincess
Well, it does have a somewhat practical use. There is a way to get past a door chain using a wire, as well as re-locking the door chain as they leave with the same method, but it takes skill and time, and it’d be easier to just cut it. So, unless you’re seriously expecting someone coming in to bug your place while you sleep without you knowing, this device would probably be good for the paranoid only.

I was just discussing the fear of someone breaking in with some coworkers yesterday. I’ve had some nights where my dog’s barking has woken me from a dead sleep and my heart is pounding out of my chest! The lock is aesthetically attractive, but thats about it. A taser is the way to go.
This is so cool. I would love it for my apartment which is not in the best neighborhood in the world. No one would get in…but I actually would most likely never get out. Particularly not before my morning cup of coffee!

That is probably the worst lock I have ever seen! I would NEVER in a million years want to subject myself to locking it. Why and how would that deter a burgler? It just makes it harder for YOU to close the door. Honestly!

It’s good to have dogs. They will drive you crazy at times, but they will certainly let you know if someone is right outside your window.
I think this lock is cool looking though, maybe to just put somewhere in the house as decoration.
I’m the same way! When I was living in Seattle I lived in a ground floor apartment and I thought I heard someone outside my door and my boyfriend told me I was crazy, so I just tried going back to sleep. But then I finally got up and peeked out the window and a creepy man was leaning his ear against my door!!! I called the cops and he must have heard me up because he ran. But now I don’t ignore any weird noises. Ever.
I’d be afraid of locking myself IN with that maze! But it’s so beautiful…

too funny. i totally agree with you, i would definately sleep better with this on my door, even if they can still just use a small pair of pliers to cut the chain!
That lock is crazy – I don’t know if I could deal with it everyday. I have the same feelings too since I live alone. What is it about being a woman and living alone?
That lock is brilliant! When we lived in Manhattan I used to have a repeating nightmare that someone was breaking into our apartment. I think I needed that lock to put my mind at ease!

I was just about to post this on my blog! I saw it on BoingBoing and had just about the same response as you. At last, with the genius lock I can sleep well at night. But then I thought about a fire or other said emergency when my leaving the apartment would be slowed greatly. You can never win.
