We also sometimes earn an affiliate commission on the sales of products we link to. We feature only items we genuinely love and want to share, and this is an arrangement between the retailer and Cup of Jo (readers never pay more for products). These are the ways we support Cup of Jo, and allow us to run the site and engage with this community we truly love. Thank you for reading!
I bought the cute box of tissues today. :)
Add: go outside. Take a very deep breath of fresh air.
Pet and gaze at a beloved pet. If you don’t have one, watch cute animal videos.
Massage your face with almond oil, apply a nice hot wet cloth, repeat repeat repeat. Wipe oil off.
Yoga with Adriene, meditation for self love.
Could someone please tell me more about stress cleaning? What is the mind-set? The approach? Honestly, cleaning is not my usual go-to when stressed and therefor my house is feeling like it really needs a proper cleaning. This sounds like a min-set I would benefit from adopting. Please share helpful details!
Put on 80s music (or whatever you listened to as a child that’s upbeat) and just dance and go!
I used to volunteer with a retired nurse – she’s in her 80s – and she said that, before therapy and psychiatry were as popular, they would literally prescribe cleaning to help people with their anxiety. Doing dishes does help me calm down when things are particularly stressful.
Oh Emma, just what ever I find when shopping, I have found great products at TJ Max and Marshall’s then at a bath shop near me that is now closed….no place in particular.
I think it’s time for Grace Farris to write a book…
At two weeks postpartum I managed a solo trip to Target and bought TWO super cute boxes of tissues. I put them on my nightstand, and the little happy patterns really did help make the endless hours spent in bed a little cheerier.
Stress detailing! Like stress cleaning, but add on a toothpick and toothbrush and get into all the tiny grimy corners. So good.
Yes to favorite mug! I used to rotate so to not overuse (Why, idk?) my favorite, cheesy Las Vegas mug, but this past year, I have used it every day cause it just makes me happy.
Making my bed and opening the windows male me feel good in the morning. The bath in the evening is such a relief, or even a quick shower.
:) at favorite mug!
We have a mug covered in hearts, acquired too long ago to remember how, but it was something unremarkable, like a coworker gift filled with candy. When my husband or I need a pick-up, we bring the other their warm beverage of choice in the mug. We’ve never spoken about it. It just happens.
Good timing. I think we’re “all” feeling a bit down or cray right now and always love Grace’s art!
The other day I set the table (which I never do) and my four year old pointed the placemats and goes- “what are these for dad?!”
Special mugs, yes! I have a Harry Potter mug from the Diagon Alley at Universal Studios. It looks like a little fat black cauldron. I still LOVE having my evening tea in it. It’s the little things!
Also, stress cleaning has never let me down yet…my mom introduced this idea to me when I was an (anxious) teenager, and I was suspicious that she was just trying to get me to clean haha. But it really works!
Re: Fresh Sheets
My friend and her boyfriend had a Sunday night routine of Triple Clean. Triple Clean is when you have a shower in a clean bath, then put on clean pj’s and get into bed with clean sheets. Now we all do our own versions of Triple Clean, and even add on to it. Quadruple Clean! Quintuple Clean! And if I’m not feeling in a Math-y mood (ie counting), then I just do Multi-Clean.
As a potter, I can attest to the effectiveness of a favorite mug! Or a cupboard full of favorites!
Thanks for this, I have been having a hard time lately.
Nothing like clean sheets, think I’ll curl up in bed after work today with a good book and light a candle.
Oh man I FEEL the cleaning one. I stumbled upon this account from a cleaning company in my home city of Calgary: https://www.instagram.com/gocleanco/ and it has kinda ridiculously supercharged my nesting (8 months pregnant)
I have gotten VERY INTO stress cleaning. I actually don’t know if its stress related because I do it when I am happy too lol. I love GoCleanCo and Amaro’s Cleaning. Both introduced me to dawn powerwash. I use it for absolutely everything. They also introduced me to investing in the proper tools for cleaning, which I didn’t realize had been what stopped me from really cleaning more often!
Oh what makes me feel better is a nice hot bubble bath in candlelight and some soft music to relax by. Lots of bubbles and my favorite fragrance of lilacs and lily of the valley filling the room.
Is this an Emma thing?? This is precisely my favorite way to relax. I love my bath time so much. Mind sharing where you get the lilac and lily of the valley scents? :)
