Mother’s Day is May 12th, and I turned to the jewelry brand Catbird for a gift for my mom. Catbird’s mission is to make beautiful, responsibly made jewelry that will bring joy — and it’s really true. (Alex teases me that whenever he asks me for a little wishlist, I’ll just say, “Catbird. Anything.”)
Catbird, based in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, was founded almost 15 years ago and is women-owned. The tiny flagship store is a destination spot and often has lines out the door. You can wear their lovely pieces every day, and they’re made to last forever. “I’ve fallen in love with Catbird’s understated jewelry,” says my mom.
Catbird also prioritizes sustainability. All their materials and vendors are chosen with the intent of minimizing environmental impact, and the gold and brilliant diamonds in the Catbird line are recycled. They make their own line by hand in their Brooklyn studio, minimizing the carbon footprint. And a percentage of all sales are donated year round to non-profits aligned with the core beliefs of equality and helping others.
I’m especially in love with the monogrammed dollhouse locket — we put in photos of the boys, including Anton in his cowboy hat! You could put in wedding portraits, baby snapshots, loved ones, yourself, anything you like.
