Who’s Your Celebrity Crush?

Beatles fans

Ok, very important question: who’s your celebrity crush these days? Mine is this dreamboat…

Rami Malek

Rami Malek. Be still my heart. As the Globe and Mail said, “he’s mostly eyes… thousand-mile eyes.”

Rami Malek

Did you see him play Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody? That’s the first time I saw him act, and I was like, WHO IS THAT.

“There are things [Freddie Mercury] does with that microphone that defy what the mere mortal can do,” says Malek. “He whips around with it with, you know, violence at times, with elegance. He uses it as the air guitar, sometimes right in front of one of the greatest guitar players of all time, Brian May. So, as Brian May is crushing it on guitar, here is Freddie Mercury air-guitaring. And it is still a magnificent thing to watch. It’s so compelling, and only he could get away with that.”

Of course, I’ve watched him on all the talk shows, like Jimmy Fallon, above.

And he can laugh at himself! Here, he’s joking about an awkward moment with Nicole Kidman. I may have even watched him read a children’s story?

Rami Malek

Too much! I can’t take it!

Who’s your celebrity crush these days? Please spill the beans below:)

P.S. More celebrity crushes, and 14 great reader comments on dating.

  1. Maranda says...

Michael B. Jordan and Chris Pratt always and forever. <3 <3 <3

  2. Jenna says...

Padma Lakshmi is my always and forever girl crush. Watch her episode of Hot Ones on Youtube and you will understand my obsession. Also, girl is socially aware, an activist, articulate and just seems like a genuinely cool person. I want to be like her when I grow up!

  3. SFord says...

Tom Hardy (he loves dogs – always a good cue in my book), Hugh Jackman (he seems a genuinely nice bloke who doesn’t take himself too seriously). Anthony Kedis and David Bowie (mid 80’s).

  4. patricia blaettler says...

Rami Malek in “The Pacific” as Snafu. It was the first time I saw him, and I thought, wow, this guy is really something!

  5. Jess says...

Always and forever, Lenny Kravitz (I came of age in the 90s)

Also, last night I forced a game of F^&*, Marry, Kill on my husband while we were watching Triple Frontier of Netflix (It is a GREAT cast to play that with). Clearly, the answer is:
F= Charlie Hunnam (oh hi there Jax, from Sons of Anarchy)
M = Oscar Isaac (YES PLEASE!)
K = Ben Affleck (ugh, no brainer)

    • Julia says...

Ok I HAVE to watch Triple Frontier…Charlie Hunnam and Oscar Isaac in a movie together? I can’t handle it.

    • Kristy says...

      SAME.

    • Sid says...

THIS. My friend forced me to watch the show and now I’m obsessed. And not just because it’s CanCon. Although as a Canadian I am legally obligated to mention that whenever possible. All the heart eyes for Dan.

  6. Ali says...

Paul Newman in the 60’s, John Cusack in the 80’s and Idris Elba anytime.

  7. Marianne says...

Kristofer Hivju (Thormund Giantsbane in GOT). As a Scandi girl, I just can’t help crushing hard on Viking guys. Especially, ginger ones. Hahaha.

  8. Bethany says...

Always and forever: John Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Paul Rudd, David Straithairn (does anyone remember him in “Molly Dodd”) and Steve Carell.

    • Jessie says...

Ohhh, I love David Straithairn! First saw him in a John Sayles movie & I’ve been hooked ever since.
And also Sam Waterston (Killing Fields & early L&O years).

    • Anana says...

I’m not sure why, but I have a crush on Jason Bateman.

  9. Mirte says...

Reading the comment section and going: yes, oh, yes, ohhh, yes, I forgot about him, yes, yes! But if I had to name one, okay, two crushes, it would be Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus. Together and apart. His Aussie-charm and accent, those eyes, and he’s funny. And Miley is just an awesome, kickass sweetheart with an amazing sultry voice. Love love love.

  10. Riz Ahmed, all day, every day!!! The beach scene with Lena Dunham on Girls was basically the steamiest thing I ever saw, goofiness and all.

    • YES. In “City of Lights,” in the final scene, when he closes the door in the dining room to go answer the front door, when he knows it’s his girlfriend. Also, every scene in “The Reluctant Fundamentalist.” And I just watch the trailer of him and Frieda Pinton in “Trishna” on repeat. Smoldering.

    • Jessica says...

      YES, Riz Ahmed!!

  11. JT says...

Oscar Isaac. I think the first thing I saw him in was Star Wars but I quickly watched most of his other films. Fantastic actor, dreamy bedroom eyes and curls to die for. After someone told me he has a band (Nightlab) I listened to a lot of their songs on 8tracks. They are actually really good and I’m not even being biased.
Also, Kate McKinnon. First in Ghostbusters but then she reignited my love of SNL. She’s so funny and then you watch her in interviews and she’s absolutely brilliant and just seems so genuine. She just glows.

    • Hayley says...

With you 100% – he is my number 1! And his voice too! Doesn’t get more dreamy than that.

  12. Sydni Jackson says...

I liked Rami Malek in Bohemian Rhapsody, but really fell for him when I watched his interviews! He is so charming!

    • Joanna Goddard says...

Agreed! So laid back and humble!

    • Karen says...

And his Oscar speech. Pure class & love. And in interviews, I so appreciate how he seems to pause to consider what words he will use.

    • Same. This interview he did with the SAG-AFTRA foundation is filled with amazing behind the scene stories, humor and grace. A must watch!
      https://youtu.be/zmKdqB0ZBtE

  13. Danielle says...

He has a new fictional podcast where he’s the lead actor, check it out! He’s my crush right now too and I love his voice – it’s called Blackout.

    • Joanna Goddard says...

Can’t wait to listen. One newspaper described his voice as a “just woke up drawl,” which I loved :)

  14. Kelly Griffith says...

    Alexander Skaarsgard. All. Day.

  15. Alli says...

    Always and forever. Donald Glover.

    • Kim says...

      Yes, respect.

  16. Sherry McLaughlin says...

Alexander Dreymon…….those eyes blow me away, see him in the Last Kingdom…..

  17. Veronika says...

Oh yes, Joanna 100% Rami Malek. It is crazy that overnight he became the Nr.1. celebrity crush. I’ve seen him before in Twilight and I just remember his weird “presence” (I know he wore contacts but this elegance he can hold himself just stuck w me) But after watching bohemian rhapsody I just got hooked. I watched like you Joanna, everything possibly available on him on youtube and it was quite easy as this was before he got really famous and winning everything possible for this role. There are 3 videos worth watching if you havent seen them which totally sealed the deal for me:
    1. search Rami Malek SAG interview. He talkes about his works, a lot of funny moments and touching moments too
    2. Rami Malek phone sex operator (which means reading the Lyrics of Kiss from Prince) It is really only for the strong hearted! haha :-)
    3. Rami Malek guesses which startups are real

    THERE – enjoy ladies!! :-)

    • Joanna Goddard says...

You are a dream!!! Thank you!!!!!

    • Deb says...

Loooool – phone sex operator gave me a chuckle :-D

    • peach says...

yup – he had me at Twilight too :)

  18. Anne says...

    Jeffrey Dean Morgan!

  19. Laura says...

Channing Tatum. Cue up “Pony” and melt. I took my Mom to see “Magic Mike” (as a surprise!) and after, we both agreed that he seemed like a very nice young man.

    • Stacie Martin says...

      LOL!!!

  20. Alice L. says...

My all time crush is Matthew Goode!

    • Heather says...

I love him! He was so great in The Good Wife and Downton Abbey

    • Elizabeth says...

Yes!! I love everything he’s in, but The Good Wife is the best.

  21. Hannah says...

Huge crush on Roger Federer… I find him so humble and quietly confident and I think I’m just attracted to men who play tennis hahahah.

Always and forever will love Andy Samberg and Bradley Cooper.

I don’t understand the Adam Driver crush that everyone seems to have!!???

Funny thing about Bohemian Rhapsody – I just found out the man who sang all those songs is the brother of my worship leader at church (his name is Mark Martel)!! You should google him singing Bohemian Rhapsody (the song) on YouTube… it’s amazing to watch him sing it, I still can’t believe how much he sounds like Freddie Mercury. Never knew much about Rami Malek but now I want to watch all these videos!

    • Hannah says...

After some further investigation I realized he didn’t actually sing alllll the songs but they did use his vocals in addition to originals from Queen… still worth a watch though :)

  22. Jessica Cash says...

Trevor Noah. If he asked me to marry him tomorrow, I would say yes.

  23. Lula says...

I have very specific crushes on characters! So, Kit Harrington as Jon Snow; Idris Elba as John Luther; Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby. Plus Tom Selleck, in whatever he does. Still as sexy in Blue Bloods as he was in the 80s!

    • Robin says...

Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby is my forever love. We are destined for each other in some other dimension. Haha!

  24. Judy says...

I am glad you asked !

Gautier Capucon, the French cellist. He can explain the meaning of life by his playing!

  25. Julieta says...

How come no one has yet mentioned Hugh Grant in Four Weddings and a Funeral? I recently learned that he had been cast to play Gilderoy Lockhart in Harry Potter 2, but then he was replaced, and I can only dream about what performance would have been :(

  26. Anna says...

I cannot believe no one’s mentioned Joel Kinnaman! His starring turn in Altered Carbon season 1 was MIND BLOWING. I fell, hard!

Ditto for Scott Eastwood, aka son of the legend Clint Eastwood! Admittedly the younger Eastwood’s acting chops aren’t quite there yet – Overdrive tried and failed to launch an imitation Fast and Furious-type franchise for him, Diablo was a passable effort but only served to highlight that he’s not there yet as a cowboy extraordinaire unlike his dad – but he gives GREAT smoulder. Look him up in Taylor Swift’s music video Wildest Dreams and you’ll see what I mean!

Max Thieriot – the single best thing about SEAL Team, and there are plenty of hotties on that ensemble show as it is (not least of whom is David Boreanaz aka Angel himself). There’s something about Max’s air of vulnerability on the show (the blonde hair, puppy dog blue eyes and abs for days don’t hurt either) that makes me want to swoon!

  27. mia says...

    Diego Luna
    The Chalamet
    Antoni Porowski

I stan a bilingual (trilingual in Antoni’s case) talented babe in any language x

  28. Sarah says...

Brandon Flowers from The Killers. I almost died when I saw him in concert for the first time!

Also- Andy Samberg, Mark Ruffalo (who weirdly sort of looks like an older version of my husband), John Krazinski…

    • Lorraine says...

      Yes on Brandon Flowers.

  29. Amber says...

    Justin Baldoni.

    • Brooke says...

Ohh yes!! He’s so winsome and his talks on evolving masculinity are incredible.

  30. Erin Mary says...

Emma Stone and Jason Mantzoukas (aka my podcast crush)

    • Dana says...

      Those choices are maximum Derek

  31. Kathleen says...

Totally here for Josh Charles (swooned over him so much in The Good Wife!), Taylor Kitsch (in FNL), and MBJ!

    • Kathleen says...

This was my reply to/agreement with someone else’s comment; not sure how it also ended up being posted here.

Anyway… my list of celebrity crushes is quite long and also includes: Andy Samberg, Jason Mantzoukas, Milo Ventimiglia, Michiel Huisman, Mark Ruffalo, Jason Sudeikis (with a beard), Adam Sandler (when he’s being cute/sweet instead of gross/immature), Ray Romano (when he’s older, like in ‘Parenthood’), Hugh Laurie, James Marsters, Zachary Levi, Jeff Goldblum, Jake Johnson, Colin Firth… and I’m sure I could continue if I thought about it longer.

Loved reading everyone’s comments! Fun post!

  32. Karin says...

Always and forever: Keith Richards and Keanu Reeves.

Solid standbys: David Strathairn and Stephen Colbert.

Recent, non-age-appropriate but delicious discoveries: Adam Driver and Armie Hammer.

    • Mouse says...

Yay! Another Straithairn lover. My best friend and I used to watch his movies and just freeze frame over and over.

  33. Katherine says...

Always and forever, Paul Rudd and Joseph Gordon Lovett. Weirdly, Phil Collins. Newly, Michael B. Jordan and Karamo from Queer Eye.

    • Jess says...

JGL! Sooo cute! And very sweet in person… he was dancing the hora, next to me, holding my hand, and I had the biggest grossest zit I’ve ever had. Easily the size of a dime. And he never even appeared to look at it. I’m kind of in awe of that. And pissed I didn’t get a cortisone shot ahead of that wedding!

    • E says...

      team JGL forever

  34. Hailey says...

Can we also talk about girl crushes? I’m so here for Blake Lively — what I wouldn’t give for Uh-mazing hair like hers! — and Charlize Theron. The woman is ageless, fearless, talented as all heck and fierce AF. I’d literally watch anything she’s in, but Atomic Blonde in particular blew.me.away. Queen! ??‍♀️ Also Cate Blanchett, who’s both beauty and brains in an articulate, feminist package — I loved her calling out all the sexist questions/scrutiny put on actresses on the Hollywood red carpet and at Cannes — and just all-round cool AF.

    • Shakti Wood says...

      Love! :)

    • emily says...

oooo we have very similar lady types! Those 3 are queens!

  35. Annie says...

My crushes fly all the time, but the current one is Michiel Huisman. He is my solid number one since last fall (Hunting of Hill House anyone?) Also Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Paul Newman…

    • Lorraine says...

Ooh great crushes! I forgot about Michiel Huisman mmm

  36. leah says...

JON HAMM. WHY ARE WE EVEN HAVING THIS DISCUSSION.

    • Loesie says...

True that! I’d be his Betty Draper quicker than he can make me a cocktail!

    • kk says...

      YES.

    • Mimi says...

lol @ this delivery!!! and you’re right.

  37. Andy Samberg, Trevor Noah, Jon Hamm, Stephen Colbert.

I feel like there is an order according to age here, but I would date any of them and I’m 26. Sorrynotsorry. #lovethemall

  38. Alexa says...

LP. Completely in love with her, which I guess is a bit confusing for me, but I’m not mad about it.

  39. LZ says...

Mike Meyers. While I was pregnant, I just wanted to laugh and his movies helped me through so much but then in the Love Guru he looked so much like my husband and I was totally crushing. Not to mention a nice belly like his parading around in underwear with bad false teeth doesn’t hurt the funny bone if you know what I mean…Then I saw his documentary Super Mensch and then I developed a huge crush on him. I’m flexible.

  40. JKT II says...

I am absolutely in love with Bohemian Rhapsody and I love Rami Malek but RDJ is my #1 celebrity crush. And now I’m showing my age here but I love Andrew McCarthy…especially in pretty in pink. I also think I’m a little in love with Charlize Theron….

  41. Bonnie says...

Ken Olin from Thirtysomething, Keanu Reeves, Aden Young from Rectify (Great show on Sundance), Josh Charles, and Antonio Sabato Jr. (looks only).

  42. Clare says...

I don’t have one celebrity crush, but my goodness are there some attractive traits out there:
    Mark Ruffalo’s passionate, progressive politics
    Idris Elba’s excellent acting
    Paul Rudd’s charm
    Henry Golding’s smile
Chris Pine’s dedication to working with women
Chris Evans’ love for his dog and correct use of “myopic” in a sentence

    • Heather says...

‘Henry Golding’s smile’ – yes to this, a million times!!!

    • Ali says...

So true, traits are so often why we find people attractive. I’m really attracted to Justin Theroux and how much he loves dogs.

  43. Marney says...

Weirdly, lately, Ray Ramano! The clueless annoying dad in his tv show, the oddball photographer in Parenthood, the amazing friend in Paddleton. I’m digging it.

Don’t get me wrong. Chris Pine, Adam Driver, Jeremy Renner. All hot. But something about dependability is very sexy.

    • Kathleen says...

I totally got a crush on him when I binge-watched Parenthood recently, too. Also enjoyed him in the movie “The Big Sick”.

    • Anna says...

      Paul Rudd.
With a side of Jon Hamm.
      For dessert? A Peter Sarsgaard.
      Late-night snack: Rob Delaney.

    • Joanna Goddard says...

      Hahahahaa

    • MD says...

One time Rob Delaney said something about how other men speak negatively of mom bods, but him totally having the hots for mom bods. Here for it! Which leads me to when Jamie Foxx had a crush on Oprah. I guess I’m into guys who are into grown ass women.

  44. Amy says...

    Paul Walker! Gone too soon.

  45. Sasha & Jilkine says...

I cant believe nobody has yet mentioned that Rami Malek is dating his co-star Lucy Boynton, who plays his love interest in Bohemian Rhapsody!

As for me, many years after Motorcycle Diaries still love Gael Garcia Bernal. Saw him last in Mozart in the Jungle, an underrated comedy on Amazon, and Museo, a movie about a grad student who robs Mexico City’s famous museum of anthropology.

    • Clare says...

Gael Garcia Bernal has been my celebrity crush since I saw him in The Science of Sleep in high school!!!! so dreamy hehe

    • Rabia says...

Yasss Gael Garcia Bernal!!Since y tu mama tambien!!!
      So dreamy!

      Also Tom Hardy anyone??

    • Veronica says...

      Love Gael!

    • Mirte says...

Oh yes, Gael Garcia Bernal since high school, and mostly Gael Garcia Bernal’s mouth. His lips have this amazing curve, can’t stop watching.

    • Elizabeth says...

Mozart in the Jungle!!! He’s soo good!

    • OMG, Gael in Mozart in the Jungle is the ultimate.

  46. Oh man. Ok. Here we go! When I was pregnant with my first child I had a very satisfying and vivid dream in which I was having an orgy with the entire LA Laker team. Yes. The whole team. As such, in real life, I developed a sudden interest in watching all kinds of basketball games, and on one fateful night I discovered LeBron James. Let’s just say that my husband is now, too, a fan of basketball season.

    • Mirte says...

Laughing so hard after reading this comment :’) Go Lakers!

  47. ALI says...

Zaddy Steve Carell. I have never been so jealous as I am of his wife Nancy ;)
Funny and gorgeous, I am fanning myself as I type this!

    • Amy says...

Gabriel Byrne. Swoon!! Also, weirdly, the Kratt brothers. Cute, goofy environmentalists? Yes, please!

    • Karen says...

The Kratt Brothers! Lol! And yes to Steve Carrell. Dan in Real Life is one of my fave films.

  48. Rudbeckia says...

Richard Madden. loved Bodyguard, and I am watching anything else starring him that I can get my hands on. his accent and his little swoop of gray amongst those ginger curls…ugggggh he kills me.

    • Rachel says...

Ohmygod YES!!! What a hottie!! Not gonna lie, he was the only reason I sat through the whole series while silently thinking “no way, she’s way too old for him!!!” What I wouldn’t give to have him follow me around solicitously, put my safety above his own, and preface everything he said to me with “Mam” in that amazing lilting accent, haha! Clearly I haven’t thought about this much at all, lol ?

    • patricia blaettler says...

All those m’aams sound like ‘mum’ to me…

  49. Alexandra says...

Jordan Peele. He’s the smartest person in the room without flexing it. Hot AF!!

  50. Christine says...

100% Adam Driver, though he’s too young for me. :) And yes to Mark Ruffalo and John K., too!

  51. ch says...

rachel maddow, lester holt, steve kornacki… clearly watching more news than movies/pop culture of late

  52. Lacey says...

Joanna, I hope you’ve seen Short Term 12! I think it was one of his breakout films -his role
isn’t super big, though. it’s free
via Amazon Prime and such a great movie.

That said, I don’t know if I have any new celebrity crushes. I still love John Krasinski. He can do no wrong. Maybe I need to browse the comments for some inspiration. :)

  53. Kristin says...

James McAvoy, MIchael B. Jordan, Matthew Rhys, Tom Hiddleston (don’t tell my kids), Josh Charles, and Seth Meyers.

  54. Akc says...

Please, someone, make a bar graph.

    • Shakti Wood says...

Oh gosh, yes, maybe a rundown of the top 10…with pictures :)

    • Heather says...

Hahah oh my goodness that’s a great idea – I want to review that data too!

    • Min Z says...

Hahaha your comment madey morning! I want to see this bar graph made too!

  55. Gloria says...

Rami Malek FOREVER!!! If you haven’t seen his cameo in Gilmore Girls its pretty cute but very cringeworthy. I def have Mr. Robot on my watchlist. Past crushes…Gael Garcia Bernal — eyes you can drown in. Eddie Redmayne and his freckles. And who can ever forget the angsty Leo DiCaprio in Romeo + Juliet ?!? #swoon

    • Andrea says...

I rewatched the entire season recently and recognized him right away! Haha!

  56. Sarah says...

Four years ago I discovered the band Panic! At the Disco while in a dance club on a cruise. I started listening to all their music, and fell head over heels for Brendon Urie. His voice is so beautiful and he’s just adorable. I flew across the country to see him in Kinky Boots on Broadway, and my 46 year old self was right there with all the 14 year old girls screaming his name!

    • Shiobhan says...

Yes to this but especially so in Dead Poets Society. Omg that baby face! I watched an interview he gave pretty recently in which he said his kids were finally old enough to watch it, and they couldn’t figure out which one of the boys on screen was their dad! And when he told them they didn’t believe him!! Lol!!

Ah, the ego crushers that are kids…

To me Ethan Hawke in Gattaca was the ultimate crush-worthy version of him. It didn’t hurt that that movie also had Jude Law and Uma Thurman, which was where he and Uma first fell for each other.

    • Kiki Machado says...

Yes, yes, yes! Ethan Hawke! Before sunrise, sunset, midnight, anytime! ;)
But Gael Garcia Bernal too and to add one more… John Corbett, Aidan, furniture designer, just the most amazing GATO (Brazilian word for good looking, cat!)

  57. Anita says...

First, I love that this is a shame free zone.
I am currently crushing on Volker Bruch, who plays the lead in ‘Babylon Berlin’.
I also have a long term crush on Daniel Bruhl (ever since the movie Goodbye Lenin). He’s my imaginary celebrity husband.
Apparently I have a thing for german men? (*considers moving*)

    • Liliana says...

Yes to both! Plus Matthew Rhys from The Americans. Love men who can speak multiple languages/speak with an accent.

  58. Suzanne Monk says...

Taxi Cab era Robert De Niro. *I die*

Also Jeff Goldblum. And Cate Blanchett.

    • Me too. That scene in the godfather when he’s walking through the streets with the gun. So good!

  59. Anita says...

Yes! Listen, I’m a lawyer. I have huge respect and admiration for RBG. But Armie is the real reason why I saw that movie multiple times on the big screen. #swooncity #guiltyfeminist

    • Anita says...

This was meant to be in response to Claire btw – Armie Hammer 4 eva!

  60. Chris says...

    I’m here for Taron Egerton.

    • Jillian says...

      Oo me too!

    • Jade says...

He seems perfectly cheeky and that jawline!

  61. I’m in love with all the guys in the South Korean boy band BTS. They’re top notch performers who produce and write most of their songs, and they’re great rolemodels too. Check out their UN speech and their Love Myself Unicef campaign as well as their music videos for “Save Me”, “Fake Love”, “Singularity”, “Epiphany” and “Idol”. https://www.love-myself.org/eng/about-lovemyself/

    • Alice says...

      Colin Firth

    • Caitlin says...

Co-sign! I was about to leave a version of this comment but scrolled down and saw this first. Armies unite! :)

  62. Terry says...

Matthias Schoenaert is a stand out!

    • Andrea says...

Omg yes! Can’t believe I haven’t seen his name pop up more on here!

    • Courtney says...

He sure is… *stops to dreamily stare into space*

    • Robin says...

Yes. I will also endorse this.

    • Claire says...

YES, especially as Gabriel Oak. Kind, solid, amazing. OH MY

    • Em says...

      Yes. Please. Forever.

  63. Leigh says...

My all time crush is Adrian Brody.

    • Jessica Cash says...

      YES. Someone else who understands.

  64. Sophia says...

Josh Groban. So utterly charming and has the cutest dog.

Zachary Levi. He is just adorable. I love him in Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Rufus Sewell. I love period dramas and Rufus is my period drama dreamboat. Swoon.

    • Stephanie K says...

Josh Groban, yes!! His hair is amazing, he’s slightly nerdy in a charming way, and oh soooo funny! And did I mention that his voice makes me melt? Love him!

    • Sarah says...

Yes, Zachary Levi! I agree, very adorable (and hot) in Marvelous Mrs. Maisel!!

  65. Krisanne says...

Armie Hammer! Call Me By Your Name did it for me. I ran into his wife in Central Park last summer and then a couple of nights later I saw on his Instagram that he was dining at the same restaurant and SAME TABLE that I had dined at the night before. It was fate. Ha!

  66. Andrea says...

    Viggo always & forever <3

    • Jessica T. says...

Absolutely! with a side of Jason Momoa:)

  67. Lily says...

Jeff Probst, the host of Survivor. 19 years and still crushing!

    • kk says...

I feel like I remember this crush the last time Joanna asked us on whom we were crushing. Way to stay strong Lily!

  68. Amanda says...

Colin Jost! His intelligence, humor, and laugh with those perfect teeth. Ooo la la!

  69. CJ says...

John Krasinski. Sweet, funny, vulnerable. Marriage material.

  70. M says...

I was a young teenager during the ER years when George Clooney came onto the scene; he was much too old for me to find him attractive. Now….I totally get it.

Jake Gyllenhaal is the hot guy that you’d have a complicated/dysfunctional relationship with. John Krasinski is the sweet, cute guy you marry and who becomes progressively hotter with age.

  71. Kelly says...

Dev Patel. After watching Lion. UGH. What a hunk.

    • Annie says...

Seconded. I remember whispering ‘that’s daddy’ 1st time I saw it

  72. Dienesa says...

    That silver fox Steve Carell

  73. Katerra says...

    Aidan Turner!

  74. Sarah says...

Yes to Rami Malek! He has some of the best speeches too, and those eyes… Seems like such a nice genuine guy.

And of course, Leonardo DiCaprio still! I think Jimmy Fallon is cute too! Colin Jost, Andy Samberg, Michael B
Jordan, Milo Ventimiglia (Jack!!), Sterling K. Brown, Cole Sprouse… So many girl crushes too! Lady Gaga!!

    • Sarah says...

Plus, Scott Foley and Jake Johnson!!

  75. Liz says...

    Joe Alwyn!

  76. Janine says...

Joanna if you’re into all things Rami, you really have to catch The Pacific! It’s basically Band of Brothers set in (spoiler) the Pacific instead of Europe, supposedly starring Joseph Mazzello (the little boy in the first Jurassic Park movie, all grown up) and James Badge Dale except Rami steals every scene he’s in and practically runs away with the whole show!

He was absolutely riveting and his Southern accent was so spot on that when I later found out about his Egyptian heritage I was completely thrown for a loop! And the fact that he has an identical twin brother!

Also agree with the recs for Mr Robot and Short Term 12.

  77. Shannon says...

Beto O’Rourke has been my celebrity crush since he was a Freshman Congressman in 2012. A coworker framed a photo of him that sits on my desk.

    • mcf says...

I have a photo of Beto from the ’90s saved on my phone. WHAT A DREAMBOAT!!! I don’t even think I’d vote for him for president but oh man…he can be president of my heart. Ah-ooga!

    • Em says...

I used to work on the Hill, where there are decidedly not many handsome men. One day I was walking to get lunch and I saw an attractive man leaning against a building talking on his cell phone. I thought, “Why haven’t I noticed this good-looking man walking around the Hill, EVER?” Then I realized it was Beto, who I learned is even better looking in real life.

    • JoLynn says...

Mr. Velvet Voice, Mike Rowe; Chock full of common sense, writes beautifully, personable, easy on the eyes and an has a quick, clever sense of humor. He could just read me the phone book!

  78. Brooke says...

Jimmy Smits in NYPD Blue and the movie Gringo!

  79. Kate says...

Paul Newman. No matter what age, he was handsome and just plain gorgeous. He had great style. His marriage to Joanne Woodward was the epitome of relationship goals. (He was so madly in love with her.) He chose interesting projects and had a long and varied career. He drove racecars! And let’s not forget his philanthropic work and his political beliefs. I am all about eye candy but when there is style and substance under the very pretty surface, that’s even better.

    • Anna says...

Here. For. This. Paul Newman was, is, and will always be the object of my crush.

    • Jess says...

100% THIS – even just a photo of Paul Newman has me swooning!

    • Annie says...

      Totally agreed!!!

  80. Mónica says...

Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell back in the day. #childofthe90s

    • kim says...

      Eddie Vedder forever!

    • Krystal says...

      Yes, yes, yes!

  81. Kim says...

    Stanley Tucci. Pure sex appeal.

  82. Mia says...

    Oooh this is so fun!!

I’ve always had a thing for Matt Damon, especially in the Jason Bourne movies — dude was cool AF. But! He could also play adorably goofy/nerdy (Ocean’s 11&12), and deliciously conniving/evil in The Talented Mr Ripley, plus he just seems like an all-round decent human being and nice guy.

Aside from that, I’ve also crushed HARD on Alexander Skarsgaard, ever since Generation Kill and True Blood. Those eyes! That voice! That hair! That towering height! SWOON. I’d watch him read the phone book!

I could go on and on, but here’s the rest of my list in no particular order:
    * Sebastian Stan — Hubba hubba! Hands down the single best thing about Captain America: The First Avenger! ?
    * Paul Rudd — How is it the man hasn’t aged a DAY since Clueless???
    * That new guy in DC’s Titans playing Dick Grayson aka Robin — unbelievably hot!
    * Brendan Fraser in The Mummy (1999) and The Mummy Returns (2001) — Square-jawed, floppy haired perfection, with huge puppy dog eyes, guns for days and impeccable comedic timing too. He and Rachel Weisz had such chemistry! So glad he’s back on the scene again in Doom Patrol!
    * Jensen Ackles in Supernatural — Dean Winchester FOREVER ?
    * Keanu Reeves — a holdover from my teenage years. My love for him was legend among my friends; so much so that even the guy friends who teased me mercilessly about it would still save me any posters or pictures of him that they came across — not an easy task either since this was long before the Internet became a thing!
    * Benedict Cumberbatch in Sherlock — that accent!!! That baritone!! And those razor-sharp cheekbones!!
    * Jason Momoa — SMOKING hot and such a good sport/gracious soul with all his fans and co-stars, too. Plus he just seems like he’d be fantastically fun to hang with!
    * Zachary Levi — I’ve loved loved loved him since Chuck but the ending of that show really left a bitter taste in my mouth, which unfortunately (through no fault of his own) tainted my affections for him/his character, which of course in my mind are one and the same. I’m really excited to see him getting his own leading role in a superhero movie this summer though. (That “blink and you’ll miss it turn” as one of the God of Thunder’s posse in Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok hardly counts!) Hope Shazam turns out as great as the trailer promises!
    * Chris Hemsworth — there’s something about that super chill surfer vibe he exudes, while still seeming like he’d be game to get into some mischief with you, and that super sexy smile! And that voice! I mean, the man literally played a god. Nuff said.
    * Henry Golding — gotta give a shout out to my fellow Malaysian, who was super dapper and HOT AF in Crazy Rich Asians, amirite ladies?

Also if I were a good 15 years younger, I’d be ALL OVER Noah Centineo (what a dreamboat!!) from To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before and the actor who plays Harvey the boyfriend in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Be still my heart!!!

  83. Katie says...

My mom’s coworker as a photo of her celebrity crush (Bradley Cooper) framed and sitting in her desk at the office. Always cracked me up!

    • Sydni Jackson says...

Hahahahah made me laugh out loud!

    • patricia blaettler says...

For Christmas my son gave me a coffee mug with “I love Bradley Cooper” on it. He knows me so well!

  84. kristin says...

i was lucky enough to go to the oscar’s this year and rami was a very surreal person to meet in real life. he has such a dramatic, angular face! and very striking eyes. granted, he had just won an oscar and had fallen down trying to take a picture on stage after the ceremony had ended. but he was glowing and giggly, which was fun to see (as juxtaposed with the brooding morose techie i’ve seen him play in mr. robot)

    • kristin says...

      *oscars

  85. Jess says...

For 32 years so far, until infinity: Keanu Reeves.

  87. Martina says...

Jim Parsons – I can’t help myself he’ s so cute

  88. Theresa says...

Michael Fassbender and Jon Hamm. Be still my heart…

    • Jackie says...

Oi did you see John Hamm on the Travel Man? He was a guest on the Hong Kong episode. On Netflix. Delightful.

    • Ro says...

      !!! MICHAEL FASSBENDER !!!

  89. Kara says...

    Paul Rudd!
Something just so sweet about him. Especially when he falls for Phoebe on Friends! Love that Paul Rudd <3

    • Kalli says...

Agreed! He seems like a good dude and he always has a sparkle in his eye.

  90. Claire says...

Um, how has no one else said Armie Hammer? Especially playing RBG’s dear husband in those fabulous gold sunglasses…swoon city.

    • Sara says...

Tom Hiddleston, Ryan Gosling, Armie Hammer and Henry Cavill in Man from Uncle… J J Fields, and most recently but not too recently Matthew Goode- I loved him in Leap Year, but just saw the younger him in Chasing Liberty and just about died. And oddly when me and my friend were fresh out of high school we both had a little crush on George Clooney, whixh we called “the silver fox” haha.

  91. Kelly says...

Sam Heughan of Outlander fame. Not only has he brought the hero Jamie Fraser to life, he uses his celebrity status to bring awareness to Bloodwise which is a charity that raises money for blood cancer research.

  92. Stevie says...

I feel about Leonardo DiCaprio as Greta Gerwig does… there is still a part of me that thinks we are meant to end up together, and I will be the first non-supermodel he falls for. (I also had a Leo photo wall.)
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QS-02ALihcQ

Also, Idris Elba and Chris Hemsworth.

  93. Jeno says...

Tom Hiddleston. most especially in The Night Manager

  94. Sara Gorrell says...

I have the biggest crush on Rami….I have since I saw him in Mr. Robot, which if you have seen the show is a little concerning!

    • Valeria says...

      Ben Harper and Bruce Springsteen!

  95. Christian Bale, Gael Garcia Bernal and Clive Owen for me. No one else. ?

    • Sara says...

Seth Meyers, Armie Hammer, Stephen Colbert, and OBAMA

  96. MICHAELA DELA CRUZ says...

    TIMO.THEE. CHAL.A.METTTTT the kinggggg

  97. Kristina says...

Cillian Murphy. He’s an Irish actor who is in Peaky Blinders on Netflix. Those eyes, that accent, swoon.

  98. M says...

If seeing bohemian rhapsody was the first time you saw him in something, YOU. MUST. SEE: “Short Term 12”. It’s phenomenal! It also stars Brie Larson before she got her academy award.

  99. Michele says...

I am with you Joanna – Rami Malek. It is the eyes and the voice. He is also pretty charming in interviews. You should watch Mr Robot.

  100. Natalie T. says...

Noah Centineo as Peter Kavinsky in To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.
    I mean…perfect Millennial boyfriend, no?!

That floppy mess of hair and those lips. I’m into it.

And Antoni of Queer Eye. He’s too adorable even if it wouldn’t be a match in real life. Hence, the crush.

  101. Kimberly says...

    TOM HARDY
    *drool*

    • Molly says...

      yep!

    • JoLynn says...

      Tom Hardy in Taboo…Oh My!

  102. Kate says...

    Adam Brody, always and forever.

  103. Annie says...

Adam Driver, Nick Offerman, Mark Hammill, Aidy Bryant, I could go on, but then I’d be listing ideal ensemble casts instead of crushes ❤

  104. Kelly Williams says...

My son is obsessed with the movie Cars and when I looked up the people who vocalize the characters I discovered Armie Hammer. My, oh my, he is so handsome!

  105. Jessica says...

Eddie Vedder. Without trying, that man exudes so much sex appeal.
    And Micheal Fassbender.

    • kim says...

      Vedder all the way!

  106. Renee says...

No one is crushing on Leonardo Dicaprio anymore?

This is so funny because if this blog had existed 21 years ago his name would have been on most people’s crush list. I remember the whole 1998 ‘Titanic’ era craziness when women of all ages were crushing on him. Funny how times change.

    • Natalie T. says...

This is so true! I’d also say the same of Justin Timberlake. He completely lost his appeal!

    • Lana says...

I don’t know, I bet they will be after his new movie with Brad Pitt comes out!

    • M says...

Nobody is crushing on Paul McCartney like they used to anymore either. Times change. People get old ?

    • michaela says...

      ALWAYS crushing on LEO.
      onehundredpercent.

    • Deb says...

I still think Leo is awesome! I was about 14 when Titanic came out and was mad in love! Now it’s not really about looks anymore but his acting is phenomenal and he does a lot of environmental campaigning too so <3 <3 <3 for Leo!

    • Lacey says...

Hahaha! CoJ should totally do a throw-back celebrity crush post.

    • Cheryl says...

Actually… a few months ago my MIL wouldn’t stop talking about how great Titanic was and swooning over Leo. Turns out it was the first time she’d ever seen it!

And about a decade ago now, I went with friends to see Billy Joel at Shea Stadium (so much Long Island in this sentence) and Paul McCartney was a surprise performer. Our row of 20-somethings screamed and pulled our hair like those 60s teens. He’s definitely old but he’s still one of the Fab Four!

    • Katie says...

M and Cheryl, I’m with you. Young Paul McCartney was a total dreamboat. Biggest crush I’ve ever had!

  107. Brooke says...

Nyle DiMarco. He is the most beautiful man inside & out. And he is doing phenomenal things for the Deaf community.

  108. Emily says...

    Tom Hardy!!!

    • Jill says...

      Yup. Totally agree!

    • Andrea says...

      Yes!!!

  109. Beth says...

Tom Hiddleston, especially in The Night Manager, and Matthew Goode. Those British men. . .

  110. LyndyM says...

Guy Raz- so thoughtful and insightful, so cute (blue glasses!), able to laugh at himself and appears to be a stellar dad & husband. Swoon.

  111. Chris Hart says...

    Shamar Moore

    • Liz says...

Agree! The man is just beautiful.

  112. George Clooney! Really, once I saw him playing a pediatrician on ‘ER,’ I was a goner.

  113. Jennifer says...

    BRADLEY COOPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    LOL

    • Lynn says...

      Oh yes. BRADLEY COOPER, swoon!

  114. Maddie says...

Harry Styles! And since I’ve read The Idea of You by Robinne Lee it’s even bigger!

  116. Te says...

Tilda Swinton / Dylan Moran, ha.

  117. Mouse says...

    Sam Elliott–that voice, that mustache
    David Straithairn–that stillness
    Idris Elba–future husband
And my new one is Michel Huisman–google the images girls!

I love me a man of few words, like my husband…..

    • mk says...

      Yes to Michiel Huisman!!!

  118. Jess says...

1000% Andy Samberg. I’ve liked him since his early days on SNL, and my friends used to make fun of my crush, but these days, with Brooklyn 99, people finally seem to be catching up to the fact that he’s a stone cold babe.

    • Rudbeckia says...

love him so much! his goofy grin makes me smile :D

    • Kathleen says...

      Yes!!!

  119. Em says...

Jack White! More like Jack White of yore, but still.

Cillian Murphy is a doll, too.

    • Andrea says...

      Yes!

  120. Maywyn says...

Jeremy Sisto, his voice is dreamy, and his presence solid and thoughtful.

    • Leslie says...

“Oh my God, Elton!” Clueless is such a class.

You’re so right about that voice.

  121. Leila says...

I similarly have not spend much time thinking about this ;) My list: Michael B. Jordan, Richard Madden, Josh Charles, Taylor Kitsch, Justin Baldoni, and Felicity-era Scott Speedman.

    • Julie Schoelzel says...

      Taylor kitsch yaaaaasssss

    • Kathleen says...

Totally here for Josh Charles (swooned over him so much in The Good Wife!), Taylor Kitsch (in FNL), and MBJ!

    • Scott Speedman is my long-time crush too. I once saw him at a coffee shop and my husband left the patio to let me make my move. Needless to say, nothing happened. He put on his headphones, drank his coffee, and walked past me and my adorable dog. I can believe that he didn’t look at me, but MY DOG IS SO CUTE.

  122. Jill says...

Andy Samberg. FOR. EVER. Talk about dreamboat.

  123. Erin says...

    Monty Don :)

    • Alida says...

Yes, Monty Don makes me swoon. Especially in the episode where he has a cut on his forehead and a short hair cut.

    • Brooke says...

Ohmygosh!! I’m dying, Erin and Alida. I never dreamed anyone else would also say Monty Don. He is the most joyful and winsome and handsome man. His gardening show is like being wrapped in a sexy British hug. ;)

    • sandra says...

Monty is such a gem, he wears scarves with such ease and knows his rhododendron from his primrose. His netflix show is like meditation. That said I will always love Keanu in Point break and River Phoenix in anything!

    • Mallory says...

I have never felt so understood by a community of strangers. Monty Don forever, y’all <3

    • Anna says...

Omg, yes, me too. Monty Don! His soothing voice! His wry smile! Swoon.

Val Kilmer, but only as Doc Holliday in Tombstone!

    • Stevie says...

      But also as Batman!

    • Valerie Coulton says...

“You’re a daisy if you do”. All time great performance… Couldn’t agree more.

    • Candy says...

      We named our dog Huckleberry!

  125. Alba says...

Oh my, Jack Pearson from This is us. Yep, I know he is not real, but man… That moustache.

    • Sarz says...

Most of the famous men I swoon over have left us. Sam Cooke? Leonard Cohen? Yes, please. Leon Bridges does a stellar job of satiating my classic soul cravings, however. And while we’re talking throwback artists, I think Kacey Musgraves is stunning. The fact that she’s doing her part to dispell the once-conservative, exclusive image around country music doesn’t hurt either!

    • Zulema says...

Matt Bomer, I know he’s gay but still he sooo handsome ?

  126. Lisa says...

Bob Marley. Marvin Gaye. Harry Belafonte. David Gilmour.

    • Jw says...

Yes, young David Gilmour in the 1970s! Alas he is old enough to be my dad.

    • Mims says...

David Gilmour from the 70s, YES! Then as he aged out, Courtney Taylor Taylor from the Dandy Warhols, and now he is getting older, either of the Avett Bros, Scott or Seth. Am I terrible that I am getting older and my crushes getting younger? For an age appropriate crush: Robert Downey Jr.

  127. Jackie says...

    CHARLIE HUNNAM

  128. Maureen says...

    Still Jason Momoa!!!

    • Lia says...

      Yeeeeaaap

    • K says...

      Always and forever Jason Momoa

  129. Amy says...

Oscar Isaac and Matthew Rhys. And Jamie Dornan but from The Fall not from 50 Shades. Which is probably worrisome.

  130. Amy says...

Jeremy Renner. Since 2007’s 28 Weeks Later.

  131. Sharon in Scotland says...

Con O’Neil, (British character actor) and Sam Elliot………………always and forever

    Chris Martin. Always.

  133. Vicky says...

Aidan Turner, Idris and James Corden

  134. Bevan says...

I definitely have a type and all my celebrity crushes fall within it. Dark hair, dark eyes, an Irish or English accent and a smile that makes you melt.

Jamie Dornan ( with facial hair) – that boyish and charming smile get’s me every time

Kit Harrington – because I could stare into those brooding eyes all day!

    • Molly K says...

      But not Colin Farrell??

    • Bevan says...

I wouldn’t say no to Colin Farrell either :)

  135. Laura says...

Colin Hanks. Funny, down-to-earth, and impossibly handsome.

Early 2010s Ryan Gosling will never be replaced by anyone.
Riz Ahmed comes as a far second.

    • Tara says...

yess. can we have a vote on these men/women plz???

  137. Rob Lowe, Keanu Reeves and Patrick Dempsey who have all managed to get even better looking with age. Also Bill Murray and Treat Williams. I adore them all for different reasons…

  138. Nigerian Girl says...

My love for Chris Pine is still going strong. Same for Ryan Reynolds. Michael B Jordan is the latest addition. Be still my um, heart.

  139. Lisa says...

Oh so many. Stanley Tucci – he just seems so sweet. He published a cook book of his grandmother’s recipes, I mean come on

Andy Samberg. I secretly hope that he’s a lot like Jake Peralta in real life.

Trevor Noah. I also grew up in Johannesburg (VERY different circumstances) and I just think he’s so funny and charming and modest and self aware. Anything happens to my current husband, I’m after Trevor

  140. Still Cillian Murphy

    • Anne St.Jean says...

he’s one of those obsessions that’s made to last a lifetime.

  141. H says...

Sondre Lerche – his cover of thank u, next was on my Spotify Discover playlist. I (foolishly) googled him and found out we share a birthday, so it really was written in the stars.

  142. Natasha Jansz says...

A few months ago, my husband was at a barbershop in Studio City for a haircut. He sat down in the chair, and the stylist asked him if he was Rami. He said that he wasn’t, and that the only Rami he’d ever heard of was Rami Malek. The stylist shrugged and proceeded with his haircut, and guess who walked in a moment later? Not that my husband isn’t a dreamboat, but I wonder if that stylist was kicking herself that somebody else got to cut the movie star’s hair!

    • Erin says...

Luke Bryan. I could watch him dance around a stage in his skinny jeans all day long! Plus he’s just a great human being.

  143. Hanna says...

Nick Offerman (especially with a beard. Have you seen him in Making It? Holy smokes hot!) and Sir Patrick Stewart. Seriously, the most attractive men EVER (on so many levels)aside from my husband. He has a crush on both of them too ?

  144. Tammy says...

John Krasinski!! Jim and Pam forever. Plus the story about him crying the first time he saw Mary Poppins Returns… sigh.

    • Karen Canas says...

I need a Jim Halpert in my life. Could really go for a tea pot love note right now.

    • Jade says...

John Krasinski for me too! Also Zachery Levi. I found him so charming in Marvelous Mrs Maisel.

    • Katherine says...

Oh gosh I forgot to include John Krasinski in my list and I legit feel bad about excluding him. I’m sorry John I loveeeeeee you!!

  145. Katie says...

    mark ruffalo, my love

    • Ceridwen says...

Yes! And Maggie Gyllenhaal. She’s so cool.

    • Lana says...

      Same. Always and forever.

    • Annie says...

Me too! Mark Ruffalo, to me, is the dreamiest.

    • Alice says...

      fourth!

    • kk says...

      5th!

Add Benicio del Toro, Jon Hamm and Bill Murray to my list.

  146. Karen Canas says...

JAMES MACKAY!! That jaw structure!! Maybe in another life….

  147. Still, always and forever, Tom Welling. Other celebrity crushes come and go but I would almost consider leaving my family behind for those blue eyes (kidding, but still).

    • Chiara says...

Padma Lakshmi! I’m almost relieved that this season of Top Chef is over because the swooning became exhausting.
