A Week of Outfits: Sharon Mrozinski

Week of Outfits: Sharon Mrozinski

Sharon Mrozinski and her husband Paul run an antique store, Marston House, in Maine. Her wardrobe includes linen tops and vintage shoes, mixed with Abercrombie jeans a teenage friend encouraged her to buy. “I said, ‘I’m too old!’ and she said, ‘You can wear them, don’t be silly!'” Here, Sharon shares her five go-to looks and a funny breakfast ritual…

Week of Outfits: Sharon Mrozinski

Shirt: men’s vintage, similar. Pants: Abercrombie. Leotard: Capezio. Sandals: Cydwoq. Pearl earrings:, similar.

“My style icon is Katharine Hepburn. I love her especially in men’s clothing, which I wear often. This white shirt is a vintage 1900s men’s dress shirt from France. I also have men’s equestrian riding pants that I wear in the winter. They have that wide thigh; I just love them. Overall, I like loose, flowing pieces that feel easy.”

Week of Outfits: Sharon Mrozinski

Jacket and pants: Samuel Snider. Shirt: 45R. Sandals: vintage Armani, similar.

“The jacket and pants are by Samuel Snider, a young designer who makes clothing from antique linen sheets! He bought tons of bedding from our store and made the most wonderful collection; I was absolutely astounded. I like to roll up men’s pants. What he’s working toward is more of that — getting rid of gender — which I think is great.”

Week of Outfits: Sharon Mrozinski

Dress: Album di Famiglia, similar and similar. Scarf: similar. Tights: similar. Bag: Marston House, similar.

“We found these giant market bags in France at a tiny village hardware store. You could get paint and bulbs and cleaning products… and these bags. Now we sell them at our store and they sell out. We take ours food shopping, use it as a laundry basket, pack it for the beach, and leave one in a guest room for guests. And these shoes work well because I have bunions! I love soaking my feet — I’ll use epsom salts and put in coconut oil or olive oil, whatever I have, and throw in some essential oils like lavender, and bring the water to where it’s hot and comfortable, and I’ll just sit for a half hour, maybe while we’re having breakfast.”

Week of Outfits: Sharon Mrozinski

Dress: 45R. Pants: Abercrombie. Sandals: vintage, similar.

“Our style has grown more similar as we have been together. Paul and I will get dressed separately in the morning, and then realize our clothes are exactly the same! I got into shopping when I started working at an ice cream parlor as a teenager. Then I’d go out and buy things. My parents were very humble, so I’d cut off the price tag before my mom would see it, or I would cross off what I’d actually paid for it in red and put a ridiculously low price.”

Week of Outfits: Sharon Mrozinski

Shirt: Kiko, similar. Pants: vintage, similar. Hat: similar. Watch: vintage Hermès men’s.

“I like to button shirts all the way to the top, but leave the bottom open. Maine summers are hot, so I want to capture the sea breezes. Over my last 74 years, people have asked, do you have any florals? And I say, you know, I guess I don’t. Usually I wear monochromes: white, natural, grey, navy, black. My closet is so easy, I can close my eyes and grab. I love clothes that I can put on and not think about until I go to bed. They go straight from grocery shopping to working to yoga to a bike ride to dinner.”

Week of Outfits: Sharon Mrozinski

“We love living here. Maine and especially Vinalhaven feel so familiar to our childhood memories. Kids walk along the water’s edge or get down in the water and try to catch crabs. Maine never disappoints, you just keep digging deeper and deeper. Maine, like nature itself, is eternally deep.”

Vinalhaven, Maine

Thank you so much, Sharon!

And a few photos of Maine because we can’t help it:

  1. Amy says...

I love her! This is by far my favorite style series out there. The women are always interesting and inspiring. You leave the site feeling good, not envious of another it-girl’s expensive purse collection. Real style is so much than “stuff”!

  2. Bonnie says...

She is so cool. Love her timeless, effortless style.

  3. Chelsea says...

I, too, knew right away she was a New England woman. I grew up in coastal New Hampshire and this made this Texas-dwelling girl miss home sooo much. I love these posts and love the diversity of women!

And that breakfast ritual … YES!!

  4. Tracey says...

I love how she’s holding his hand behind her back in the kissing photo. Such love!

  5. Malia Hasegawa says...

One of my favorite style-y features ever. She know her vibe and looks amazing and comfortable in every shot. The two lovers pic is beyond perfect!

  6. Sasha says...

I loved reading this and can smell the sea air!

  7. Nicole Brant says...

LOVE! Sharon is my style twin! Good job CoJ on showcasing women from all different age groups and locations.

  8. jillian says...

If only I could hop on the ferry – I can see the terminal from my office window – and ride to Vinalhaven right now to meet and befriend this woman, if she would have me. I chose this place, and it chose me back, and I find new reasons every day to be inspired and awed by its people – especially the salty, strong, practical, beautiful island women of Maine!

    • Joanna Goddard says...

i love this comment, jillian!!!! we are actually coming to maine next week for a family trip — portland and camden. i’m so excited.

  9. Em says...

Love this. I saw the first photo and immediately thought, “She looks she must be in Maine!” Guess I was right! Coming from a long line of Mainer’s, I immediately felt at home with this style diary. Makes me miss the strong, independent Maine women that I have lost in the past few years.

  10. Sally Vendetti ( House of Vendetti) says...

I was born in Greenville, Maine, Moosehead Lake, now residing in New Zealand for over forty years ! Love her simple relax look…..I too wear the same type of loose linen- and have my own label – sewing big baggy pants for those who adore comfort in LINEN. Looks to be a lovely spot- thank you Sharon for sharing your spot and style!

  11. Anna says...

A week of outfits is my fave!! And love her!

  12. Stacy Martyak says...

    Love this!!!

  13. Emily D says...

Oh, she is divine! Love that you featured her. I only aspire to become more like her as I age! I’m working on gracefully growing out my grey now (I’m in my thirties but have a lot towards the front of my face), and I’m always inspired by women who radiate inner beauty and rebel against some of the more traditional expectations of women. (Like color your hair, wear “flattering” clothes, etc.) She looks so comfortable with herself and happy.

  14. Leah says...

Definitely my favorite in this series. Sharon is my wardrobe spirit animal.

  15. Emme says...

I love the way she talks about Maine. I will be moving there in two weeks, without visiting first, and every positive comment I read or hear makes me more excited (and less nervous) to be going xoxo

    • Ashley Ryan says...

Hi Emme, I don’t live in Maine, but in New Brunswick, Canada right next door :) It’s beautiful around these parts and people are so warm and friendly. You will love it! Good luck!

    • Emme says...

      Thank you so much Ashley!

    • Daniela says...

I spent a summer in Maine and adored it. I’ve been thinking about going back ever since – you will love it!

    • J. says...

I moved to Maine a year ago from NYC! It took some getting used to but I’m pretty much obsessed with Portland and the surrounding area now. Living here I feel like I’m in on an amazing wonderful secret. :)

  16. Might be my favorite Week of Outfits yet!

  17. jeannie says...

What a beautiful woman! I love her style. She is ageless and elegant. And those pictures of Maine – I am hooked!

  18. LC says...

I love your site- I just celebrated my 57th and I am always reading blogs “below my age”- so thrilled to see you feature someone beyond 30-35 for this feature- I read a lot of the comments and it seems younger women want/need to see other women older than themselves in media- guess what ! You can have fun with your clothes, your make up, no make up, love on your man… everyone seems incredulous that Sharon is so vibrant. By the way, you are all aging everyday. We are all aging women. So do it your way, keep living large as you age…

    • Adley says...

Yes! I’m 35 and love seeing a beautifully aging woman as a role model!

    • Lynn says...

I’m the same age as you and I’m right there with you, reading blogs below my age even though I still relate! I refuse to dress like an old lady and love seeing women like Sharon who have such fantastic, easy, approachable style! We ARE all aging, daily…

    • Ellie says...

I love your comment, as I am weeks away from 58 and love Cup of Jo and other blogs “below my age.” (Actually, I feel eternally 32, although my face seems to betray that fact.) It’s good to know that I’m not the only 50-something reading blogs directed at younger women.

  19. Lindsay says...

Joanna, I really love how you include women of all ages in your content. Sharon seems incredibly cool! Enjoyed this so much & Maine is certainly on my list of must-get-to’s!

  20. M says...

Beautiful! Classy! I love the diversity that you show in your beauty posts.

  21. Twyla says...

This is almost EXACTLY how I see myself dressing as I get older. Sharon, you are a vision! So classically chic!

  22. Liz says...

She’s gorgeous! Also seems like she’d be a great friend. Inspiring post!

  23. Casual and comfortable AND chic?! Amazing! And multi-functional clothing in neutrals. It’s genius, really. Beauty uniform and house tour, please! I can almost smell that wonderful Maine air in these pics!

  24. Lulu says...

✨My absolute favourite so far! Love her style and vibe! 🙌🏽✨

  25. Kate says...

Sharon is my new style icon, I have been following her on Insta for a while and I think she is the most graceful, beautiful woman and a wonderful example of how good style is ageless. So effortlessly chic!

  26. f says...

wow, major style goalzzzz. wish i lived in maine so i could be friends with sharon!

  27. M says...

I have new GLOW UP goals now. Thank you!

  28. Virginia says...

    Love her!

  29. Christina says...

For linen and Maine lovers (of which I am both) check out South Street Linen in Portland Maine. They have a website featuring their own designs (clothing) and a wonderful selection of linen scarves that are hand blocked designs created on Vinalhaven. There long jackets are incredible. Retiring to Maine in 2019 and found this feature to be so relevant. Thanks!

  30. Cynthia says...

She looks so youthful and her outfits look so effortless.

  31. Kate says...

So nice to see a style post from an older woman who wants to get rid of gender – so refreshing in this day and age!

  32. Kate says...

I love this profile so much. I’m in my thirties but would love to emulate both her style and attitude. Thanks for featuring such diverse, interesting women!

  33. Claire says...

Wow, what a fantastic and stylish woman! Love her style and muted colour palette. Gorgeous!

  34. AH! My husband’s family has a house on Vinalhaven as well as an island off the coast. We literally just went this summer (late June) and I bought a piece for my kitchen at her store. Such a magical place with such unique finds. I highly suggest going if you’re in Maine.

  35. tnm333 says...

    GOALS! for aging beautifully.

(Except I want all her clothes now. And an entire wardrobe out of antique French linen sheets.) Most inspiring week of outfits yet.

  36. aga says...

Wow, she is beautiful! And what amazing style!

  37. I hope I age as gracefully and as lovely as her. She radiates life!

    Paige

    • Heather says...

I was just thinking the same!

  38. One look at that first image and I knew she was in Maine – I love seeing not only the state I call home featured, but the style here, too. Maine style is often written off as all Bean boots and fleece, but like the state itself, it’s so much more than that. I love Sharon’s style and have added Marston House to my “must visit” list – thank you as always for the incredibly inspiring content!

  39. Lynn says...

I just love your blog….this post is one of the many reasons why! This woman, at 74, is lovely and ageless in her manner of dress. I adore her style. I also love your “my beauty uniform” series, as well as mothering in various parts of the world. Love all the unique home tours, recipes, beauty hints, peeks into your life, and all things NEW YORK. You are doing a wonderful job, Joanna!

  40. Nina says...

I love her style. I’d love to not care that my linen is all wrinkly and I so don’t want to iron it everytime I wash it. I’d love to be so at ease with life, as she appears to be. How fun that she and her partner dress the same. Makes me laugh.

    • Kim says...

      I never iron my linen!

  41. Is it weird I kind of can’t wait to be an older woman? Not that I’m wishing away time, but I’m in my ’30s and while there are definitely scary things about aging, I feel like with each passing year I grow more confident and sure of who I am — but I’m not “there” yet, if that makes sense. This woman just radiates “love my life” and I want to be that sure and beautiful in my own skin.

  42. Bonnie Blackard says...

Thank you for posting about an older woman!!!

  43. Maryann says...

Gosh what lovely style Sharon has. I love how stylish and yet easy she looks in every photo.

Shout out to Greta Rybus on the gorgeous photos too. That 4th photo down of Sharon captures the Maine coast perfectly: craggy, a little wild, and ghostly. I love Greta’s instagram feed.

    Thank you for sharing!

  44. Angela says...

The longer I look at her the more beauty I see, calm yet radiant. It makes me think that we ought to spend more time really seeing those around us, not just looking. We might be surprised to find astounding beauty right under our noses.

  45. arielle says...

I LOVE THIS. What an inspiration!

  46. Cara says...

My first comment (after 5+ years of reading:)) to say that this is the BEST week of outfits yet. I’m in my twenties and have never related or aspired to anyone’s style more than Sharon’s.
Please invite her back for a beauty uniform and/or house tour! x

  47. Carolyn M says...

Love this. Reminds me of my mom who is the most stylish woman I know :)

  48. Juliette says...

What a beautiful, classy lady! She‘s glowing from within. I hope I’ll get to grow old like that.

  49. Maggie says...

If she wouldn’t mind, I would love to see a beauty article about her. I would like to be her when I grow up.

  50. lulu says...

What a beautiful smile. What a beautiful soul.

  51. Anna says...

Hands up who’s now planning a trip to Maine? I live in Manchester (in the UK) so this is definitely a fantasy one (for now). Looks so beautiful!

  52. Jill says...

I absolutely love this. What a woman!

  53. jilly says...

whoops! the photo i mentioned is actually on the website for their shop…..

  54. jilly says...

everything above about how beautiful a soul she is….but can we talk about the sweetest and most wonderful photo at the end….her husband’s kiss to her forehead….

  55. Sarah says...

Love this! I’m from Nova Scotia (Canadian Maine haha) and all the beautiful foggy shots made me homesick. Of course love Sharon’s style too!

  56. Ali says...

Dayummmmmmmm! I will never be as stylish as Sharon! She is goals, I am sending this as inspo to my Mom right now!

  57. AB says...

Somehow this alleviated all my fears of looking older! Radiant.

  58. This was just beautiful. I love Maine, I’m actually headed there for a silent retreat in November. It will be my 3rd trip to Maine this year. “Maine, like nature itself, is eternally deep.” – she is so right and embodies that depth herself. I thought I once captured Maine by calling it “The Hawaii of the Northeast” but she really gets it right. Just beautiful. Thank you.

  59. Sarah ann says...

Maine is the top of my list of places to visit. Her style and description have me wishing vacation was on the horizon!

  60. Geri Gaskill says...

I love Sharon’s style and life sensibilities. She seems so centered and content, it is so good to see mature women in your Week of Outfits feature.
This feature is one of my favorites and could be called “to thy own self be true” since the women you select are so individualistic in their clothing choices and sense of self and style. Bravo, COJ!

  61. Whitney says...

I love this. Effortless and beautiful.

  62. Babs says...

Thank you – the pictures, this woman, her style, this island – lovely. The best thing I read today.

  63. Edie Morris says...

Her style is so inspiring! She is seriously my new idol as I age! Please do a follow up week of outfits featuring her winter wear, I imagine it is slightly different than her linen ensembles.

    • Yes, I agree! Please do this!

    • eve says...

i second this! a follow up please! her style is so lovely.

  64. WAIT after stalking Samuel Snider’s instagram did I read right that Sharon and Paul have a home in PROVENCE too!? Could we have TWO house tours with them??? Pretty please?

    • Jess says...

Yes! They mention it on their “About” page for the store. I would LOVE to see it!

  65. Love this! As a 30 year old, I have a lot of similar pieces and this gives me hope I could potentially come off chic and not just shlubby! I love her buttoning the shirt all the way up and leaving the bottom open, I usually do the opposite but I might give this a shot soon!

  66. Laura says...

Thank you for sharing!! It’s so lovely to see a mature woman with great style and a zest for life. I’m looking forward to aging. :-)

  67. Ellen says...

I visited Vinalhaven last September and eyed this antique shop every day hoping that it would open so I could get my hands on those gorgeous linens! Alas, it was the shoulder season and it did not open. Now I really have to go back!

  68. Charlotte says...

Sharon is so gorgeous. Her energy seems so strong and peaceful. Thank you for sharing!

  69. gfy says...

Oh gosh, I hope I look like her when I’m her age! Even now, I have to be aware of how things I take for granted actually make me look older or stodgy and boring when there is no need to look so conservative!! Especially as we age. I love her look. Natural, conscious and carefree!

  70. Bec says...

This is such a wonderful post! She looks amazing and I too love some vintage linen. Also loving Paul’s style. I looked at that photo of them together and thought “hmm I need to get my fiancé into some long sleeved loose tees!”

  71. MelissaB says...

That’s for me! I want to be her when I grow up!!

  72. Jeanne says...

LOVE her style! So elegant and comfortable. It looks like it breathes. I’m definitely working towards this style and have a few similar pieces. I also love the different demographic. <3

  73. Wonderful feature. You guys finds the coolest women to feature. Also, the photographer deserves some laurel for these shots. The harmony with the surrounds, she managed to keep in the photos is impressive.

  74. I’m such a Maine girl. I live in the Midwest (Indiana), but spent all my summers in Maine! I think that is why when I looked at this I felt so connected to her style! My mother is from Maine, and I was lucky enough to spend time with my grandparents every single year. Now in my middle 40, I love how young she looks, loved the extra photos… Maine is such a special place, and so are all the people who are lucky enough to land there!

  75. Tracie M. says...

Sharon is absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for featuring her and showcasing her amazing style!

  76. Clou says...

Thank you! Some time ago I suggested that you feature a more mature woman — your content is relevant to many who are no longer 30-somethings. I would also love to sea a mother-daughter team featured as so many of your stylish guests count their mothers as their inspiration. I think Ms. Mrozinski’s style is something to aspire to as we age. Loose, stylish, and comfy in our own skins. Just add a beautiful smile which she has done.

    • Kristian says...

A mother-daughter soot (or maybe several pairs w/ one look each?) would be so cool!

  77. Kate Ahalt says...

I am totally in love. I want to be this woman. First you give us Julie O’Rourke and now this? You might be the best piece of marketing for mid-coast Maine I’ve ever seen.

    • Katie says...

lol. Maine calls to me. I need to get up there soon. So glad to have found @rudyjude via this blog because her IG is one of my favorites. Her child especially makes me smile so hard.

  78. Tracy says...

She is beautiful and I LOVE her style.

I want to be her, and like one of the commenters said, please do a house tour with her, she (and hub) run an antique store, I can’t imagine what pieces she’d have in her house.

  79. Megan says...

Omg please do a house tour with them! Living above the antique store?! I can only imagine how dreamy that must be.

  80. Moira says...

Oh Vinalhaven!!! My husband lived there for a short time when we started dating. I was in college in Brooklyn at the time and I would take the bus to Boston, and the bus to Portland and then we would spend the night in the back of his station wagon in the ferry parking lot, and take the ferry over in the morning. It was the most magical place, especially during the winter. Now I wat to go back and visit her store!!

  81. isavoyage says...

What a beautiful person! And so much style.
“Maine, like nature itself, is eternally deep”, wao. I had the feeling that nature is eternally deep, now i have the words. Thank you so much.

  82. Carol Wynn says...

She is so wonderful! She has great, classic style.

  83. Samantha says...

Omg loved her so much! Most of my wardrobe is also monochromatic. Lot’s of blue, black and white. I like not having to think too much when putting an outfit together, specially for work.

  84. Jane I. says...

(Insert heart eyes emoji!) Wow, the color scheme of these photos alone is enough to make a sister swoon. As the kids say these days: mood.

  85. Sasha L says...

Also, bravo Greta Rybus, the photographer for these images, you hit this one out of the ball park.

    • Joanna Goddard says...

she is SUCH a talent. you should have seen all the outtakes! it was impossible to choose selects.

    • Abby says...

Absolutely incredible pictures! Each and everyone is stunning.
I love how the surroundings are so wonderfully captured and also mirror the outfits in a way.

  86. Sasha L says...

Sharon just seems like she belongs in these pictures, like she was born to be exactly who and where she is. The colors and the nature back grounds and Sharon herself are so soothing, like a warm cup of tea…… Or a nice foot soak. I felt sad at the end of this post, I could look at this for days and days and still want more. Thank you so much COJ for just always being what a heart and soul need.

  87. Elisabeth says...

    Iconic.

  88. Colleen Keller Mishra says...

    #goals

    • Laura C. says...

      This.
I want to be her! Her wardrobe is ideal, I love those colors and I love her smile and her living in Maine. Thanks for this.

    • Sara says...

yes! exactly what I was thinking.

  89. Christina Simon says...

I love her style! She’s absolutely beautiful and so chic.

    • Kate says...

Yes Natalie! I have this dress in white and it is perfection, I need to order a few more colors. I have several pieces from Not Perfect Linen and they are wonderful. Thanks for sharing!

  90. Lauren E. says...

Love love love!!! Such timeless style.

  91. Oh my, I love this woman! Such grace and style.

  92. Mallory says...

She’s beautiful! Reminds me of a character from a Nancy Meyers film. I have to know though, what shoes are good for her bunions?? They look so cute but I don’t see a source. I’ve developed a bunion after two kids and it’s recently started hurting. I don’t know what to wear!

    • Joanna Goddard says...

she wears sandals that give them space and don’t touch them, if that makes sense!

    • Emma says...

I’ve had horrid bunions my entire life. Two sandals that I can walk in for miles and miles are OluKai Upena and Naot Dorith. They’re both pricey-ish but I walk around 5-9 miles every day during the summer and they last beautifully and go with everything!

  93. Emilie says...

Anyone who cites Katharine Hepburn as her style icon is dead on in my book!

    • Eloise says...

DROOL!! But I’m too short for these, I think….and nervous about shipping from Lithuania. But GORGEOUS!

    • Jill Palumbo says...

Just be careful-I ordered from overseas and I believe they are a lot smaller over there. The neckline and the armholes were teeny, tiny. Check out meg by design on Etsy. Her linens are yummy!

    • Margot says...

Brilliant recommendation! notPERFECTLINEN is THE BEST! Incredible quality and colour selection. I own three pieces and the linen gets better with each wash (and dry!!) of the garment. The shipping from Lithuania to Canada was under ten dollars! That said, it did take four weeks to ship. Worth the wait!! With each first-time order, a package of one inch colour swatches are included (which I found so clever)!

    • Abby says...

I also own a few pieces from notPerfect Linen- and I LIVE in them. The dresses are perfect for summer days, and the tunics and pants are so comfy and chic. I have this dress in a small and at 5’7″ and ~130lbs, it’s quite baggy on me (big armholes, as well) so I haven’t experienced what Jill mentions above! Production takes a few weeks, but $7.59 shipping to the west coast only took one!

    • Jill says...

I’m glad you had better luck. I’m plus size and she was sweet enough to make the body part of the top fit but I couldn’t even get it over my head. The fabric was divine though and I wish the top would’ve worked.

  94. Ana says...

I LOVE THIS. What great style Sharon has. I have dreams of having a wardrobe like this, despite the fact that my actual wardrobe is completely opposite – I work in a very conservative corporate office, so all of my clothes are stiff and structured. I want linen, not tweed! Maybe someday :)

  95. Julia says...

What an impressive example that youth really comes from the inside. I am 41 years old and know plenty people of my age who seem much older than this beautiful lady-girl!

  96. i want to be just like her, in every way. she is so flipping gorgeous, all things light and airy.

  97. Kate says...

Yes, more Maine on the blog! Love everything about this.

  98. Allison Carr says...

I love this series! such a variety of beautiful, stylish women :)

  99. Allison Cooper says...

My gosh. The beauty of being 100% in your skin without apologies. Simply stunning.

    • Sasha L says...

Oh you said that so perfectly, just what I am feeling with this post as well. True beauty.

    • aga says...

      100% agree

  100. Jean says...

Oh my goodness, I absolutely love this post! I love Sharon’s style, so classy and elegant and brought Katharine Hepburn to mind before I read the reference to her. I also aspire to a similar style (but am mostly WAY off the mark!) I wear mostly trousers and lots of linen, and have been avoiding buying florals recently as I think they suit me less and less the older I get (I’m 57). I’m going to adopt a no-floral rule from now, thank you Sharon for the inspiration.
p.s. More posts like this please Cup of Jo x

  101. Leanne says...

I want to be her when I grow up!

  102. mckenna n says...

She is lovely, chic and beautiful! I love her style and her smile. Thank you for posting.

  103. Nerissa says...

I just love this so much! Her ease, the lifestyle. Such an inspiration.

  104. Lisa says...

Such amazing style! She’s literally radiant

  105. Claire says...

She is just so pretty! Elegant, comfortable, and unique outfits are the perfect way to go. I especially love the men’s white vintage shirt in the first photo. (And I keep trying to zoom in to see if she is wearing makeup because I am on the hunt for ideas on how to spiff myself up…my silver hair, pale skin, pale eyes wash me out. She looks like a natural beauty!)

She is amazing! I would love to emulate her but whenever I put on loose, flowy clothing it really does look like a SACK. How do other people pull that off?

    • Sasha L says...

Same. My figure just doesn’t work for big flowy tops. Still love these looks on Sharon though, love that she looks so at home in them too.

  107. Julienne says...

Absolutely love this post. It’s wonderful to see older women sharing their amazing style on Cup of Jo. I like to remember my two grandmothers’ very different vibes—my maternal grandmother loved fine silver jewelry and always wore pale hats and soft blues and pinks to compliment her “summer” colouring. My paternal grandmother gravitated toward angular shapes and wore rust or olive turtlenecks and tweeds, and always a dangerously sharp agate ring. Two women who could not be more different but whose beauty and individuality I think about every day—they made and still make more of an impact on me than any flawless teenaged model in a magazine.

Sassy older women………………..more of the same x

  109. Tami says...

Gorgeous! I’d love to hang out with her in Maine, share a glass (bottle) of wine and chat about life.
Her smile says she has a lot of wonderful stories to tell.

  110. KL says...

Wowza, the timing on this! I am planning a babymoon for my husband and me, and we were looking into Vinalhaven! My aunt discovered that our great, great (great?) grandparents came over and settled into Vinalhaven before coming to Northern Massachusetts and then the Boston/Cambridge area. Funny that this place I’d never heard of before has become a place I now hear about often! Loved this piece for that reason, and because I see how my style has evolved over the past few years, and can see that eventually it’ll continue to evolve until I’m practically Sharon’s doppelganger (with curly hair).

    • My husband’s family is the same! They have a house at the north end of the island by the area that looks like a witches nose. We just went in June and it was magical. Highly suggest.

I think this week of outfits is the embodiment of “Yaasss queen”!

    • Jillian says...

Oh I love love love this quote!

    • Abby says...

“This is how I am now.” immediately went on a post it and is now living on my office wall. What a great quote!
Reminded me a bit of that Girls Quote in the first episode (?) where Hannah Horvath says to her parents: “I have work, and then I have a dinner thing, and then I am busy trying to become who I am.”

  117. Laura C says...

Yes Sharon! I’ve been such a long distance fan of her and Marston House. Their Instagram gives me life! She is the living definition of natural beauty & she seems to have such a sweet spirit.

  126. Kate says...

She reminds me of my mom – lots of loose, flowy, comfortable linen, gorgeous skin that’s never needed a lick of makeup, and skinny jeans! It took me a while to convince my mom to try on a pair and now she loves them :)

  127. Amy says...

Sharon is the epitome of chic! I love her style!

  128. Lesley S says...

Love, love, love Sharon’s style! It reminds me of the effortlessly cool and comfortable, yet interesting style of my best friend’s mother. I always think she looks so great from the most casual to dressy events – I think it’s the monochrome and wonderful fabrics that do it. Am trying to be more conscious of that and quality of clothes for myself now. And the pictures of Maine! Swoon! Great post!

  129. Anna says...

Love this. I have a feeling Sharon’s home would be worth a tour as well!

    • Jill says...

      I second this!

    • Sasha L says...

      Yes please.

    • cindy fried says...

Thirded! And also winter outfits as somebody else said. And ‘beauty secrets’ as they used to say in mags. I’m over here in the UK and Maine is working its way to the top of my hit list for next summer. Going back to look at these inspiring pics now….

  130. Kate W says...

  135. sara says...

My husband and I stayed at the Bed and Breakfast on their property during our babymoon! Gorgeous spot (nearly unusable mattress, which was a big challenge at 8 months pregnant, but hopefully they have replaced it by now! Otherwise, would HIGHLY recommend!).

  136. Maia says...

Talk about aging gracefully. This just put me at ease. One of my favorites since Linda and Winks. I would also love to see an elder AA woman featured sometime.

    • Amy says...

I agree with you! She has such a timeless style, and she exudes life!

  138. Juultje says...

I hardly comment but she is so wonderful and full of life. Plus I love her style, it’s simple yet it suits her. Beautiful real woman (plus, the smile!)

    • Jill says...

Sorry to be negative, but I hate the phrase “real woman.” We are all REAL WOMAN. What does this term even mean? It seems like a way to put down women that don’t have a more “relaxed look”?! Can we all agree to stop using this term?

    • Juultje says...

Sorry, but I don’t agree. I think when especially aging women just show aging, with all the wrinkles and grey hair and they show that women are beautiful at every age. When a women with curves just wears what she wants without thinking and her confidence shines through those are ‘real women’ to me.
Yes, we are all women, but sometimes seeing women who try so hard to be someone else, or hide aging or whatever else, I long for more ‘real’ and less superficial. I’m sorry you’re experienced my comment as being negative.

  139. Caitlyn says...

I adore her style. This is what I’ve been trying to cultivate lately. Loose and flowy and effortlessly chic! That said, I ADORE that dark grey boatneck sweater dress she has (I actually gasped a bit when I saw it and was so excited!), but the “similar” item linked does not capture the spirit of the original at all. Would love a to find a version that’s closer to hers if anyone has ideas!

  140. Nyk says...

I would like to be my version of her when I grow up ☝️

    • Caroline says...

      same!

  146. Sarah says...

What a breath of fresh air! She is a timeless beauty.

  147. Katharine says...

I just have to tell you, it’s KathArine Hepburn, not KathErine. I’m named after her so it immediately jumped out at me :)
Love her style, and love Maine!

    • Joanna Goddard says...

      thank you!!!

    • Kate (short for KathArine!) says...

Amazing! Me too! I’ve met a lot of Katherine, Catharine, and Kathryn’s in my 37 years but no other Katharine. It’s a rare one :)
