An Ode to Stripes

This post speaks to my heart! I love stripes and my husband always laughs at me when I come home with *another* striped shirt….dress….pjs…. Can’t get enough!

(I am fat, though. I know they don’t suit me, but there’s nothing I feel more comfortable in.)

Ages ago I had a striped boatneck from crew that I wore to death. I imagine you to be more often than not seen walking around Brooklyn in stripes!!

I love stripes. I recently counted 13 striped tops and dresses in my closet! They’re all horizontally striped and I just say it makes everything look curvier, not fat.

I saw a blue and white jumpsuit at Madewell this week. I know it’s only a matter of time until it’s in my closet!

Over the decades, I’ve grown to be a plus size, but stripes still look good! I love a good clingy striped dress–even if they’re horizontal stripes, somehow they trick the eye into making me look all hourglass-shaped, and it’s a beautiful thing! Stripes for the win!

First time commenting! I actually had to tell myself to stop buying stripe shirts the other day! My last were from J.Crew and I’m wearing it for my birthday in a couple days. Like others have said, they are just so classic and “French” and you can pair it up with pretty much anything else in your closet. Stripe lover for life.

Yes! I love stripes (and plaid). They’ve been my mainstays for years. I always feel incredibly pulled together in my striped shirt.

Ohhhhhh, LOVE this piece because I LOVE stripes. They are timeless. Most of my closet is stripes and solids. Polka dots are my second pattern. I like all but the last dress honestly, but that’s only because I don’t think I can pull that off.

Yes! I have this red and white tissue tee from one of those designer collections at Target that I bought ten years ago for a trip to Europe. I thought I would look so cool running around Italy in it (I was in my late teens, what can I say). The hem may be unraveling, and I may be shopping at better stores now for clothes, but I still have that shirt and wear it all the time. I’ll own that shirt until it actually falls apart, and then I’ll probably find a way to re-fashion it into something new.

There’s something about stripes. Maybe it’s the Coco Chanel vibe. She was one of the first women ( if not the first one) to start wearing stripes imitating the tees wore by fishermen (or sailors ?) Stripes are my favorite, judging by my Instagram!

I haved always loved a good striped t-shirt, and I once had a boss tell me I was “In a stripes rut”! I remember the first one I bought when I was 15, that I saved up a whopping $40 for.

Love strips! Sometimes I don’t like it with my stomach, but I’ve found so many shirts that are flattering regardless.

Wearing striped shirts and dresses and shopping for striped shirts and dresses is a constant in my life–it’s like breathing :) There is something so fresh and classic about them. I can wear them everywhere, to nearly every occasion, and they always feel like I picked the most perfect thing.

Also, this is related but random: I remember reading a post on Cup of Jo about a couple who got married at City Hall and the bride wore a striped shirt and overalls. And I remember thinking, “You can do anything in a striped shirt. I could totally get married in a striped shirt!” :D

YEA! What’s up with that? How come stripes are always, always the right choice? Except when you wear a striped sweater with a striped dress over striped tights – that’s not the right choice.

Having wide shoulders as I do, I’ve stayed away from stripes pretty much all my life…until I started reading your posts on striped tees! You’ve pretty much converted me! My latest striped tee arrived in the post yesterday!

I’ve been wanting to get this one from J.Crew, but something is always holding me back, like “Wait…do I want to be a cliché?”. You guys point out this is more classic than anything :)
