Have a Beautiful Long Weekend.

What are you up to this weekend? Any fun plans or trips? We’re going out to a romantic dinner tonight, and I’m hoping to go kayaking in the East River tomorrow morning. Thank you for all your great comments this week; I always love hearing from you. Hope you have a good weekend, and here are a few links from around the web…

Words to remember from Roald Dahl.

In one sentence, Amy Poehler schools a guy on what it’s like to be a woman.

Do you sleep in something cute? I’d love to wear this instead of pjs and socks.

Ha! An awesome screensaver.

The 23-year-old who is making the New York Times crossword puzzle cool.

Nude portraits with a funny twist.

Abstract Parisian rooftops.

My friend makes the best sandwiches—and here’s his secret weapon.

What every trendy restaurant menu looks like.

How to be polite.

The five love languages. Which are you?

Yoga moves to do after sitting at a desk all day.

On my fall wishlist: This beautiful wallet, of all things.

Cool gallery exhibit in Denmark.

What a glass of wine looks like. (Smaller than you’d think!)

Have a good one. xoxo

  1. Panini grills/George Foremans really do make any sandwich incredibly melty and lovely.

And seeing that wine poured into a baby bottle will forever remind me how small my pour should be :)

  2. I love looking at sexy lingerie, but I can’t wear any where there are two little triangles that show me where my boobs should go. My boobs are way too big for those triangles, and they hang below the lines, and it just looks terrible.

  3. Great post!!

Celebrating my 2nd Anniversary of my blog.

  4. I just stumbled upon your blog and am so excited to have found a new one to love! I hope you end up having a wonderful weekend!

  5. Roald Dahl is my childhood! I’m starting my freshman year of college at a woman’s college, so I was really excited to see you link Amy Poehler schooling a guy with a sentence. Also, thanks for the yoga hacks! -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey’s

  6. I just designed a print for my office gallery wall using the second half of that quote! And I’m Receiving Gifts and Physical Touch tied — exactly the way my mom and stepdad loved me when I was young!

  7. I love that article on being polite! Sometimes I am really very polite and still don’t like the person with whom I spoke. it’s nice to see this small failure as something different.

  8. Happy Anniversary!
May you have a life time of good health and happiness

  9. The painting is beautiful! I love the nightshirts from Victoria’s Secret. They’re soft, cute, and comfortable, and they come in cute prints and perky solids. Enjoy your long weekend!

  10. Gah. That screensaver. So clever. I’ve already downloaded it. Thanks :)

Also, I’ve done the Love Language test and my personal profile is Physical Touch. I’m a bit surprised since I don’t consider myself a loving person, my family is very loving and touchy and have been comparing me to a cat, cause I usually don’t want hugs/kisses most of the time. With my friends and guys which I’m romantically involved with, I tend to be more loving. But I didn’t expect my Love Language profile to be Physical Touch!!!!

  11. amy poehler is my hero.

  12. Sounds like fun! I hope you have an amazing dinner!

  13. This may be my favorite compilation of links to date! Have a great weekend, Joanna. :)

  14. Loved that Katie Barnwell interview with Anna Shechtman! I never would have read it otherwise, and I’d never heard of Anna Shechtman, who sounds amazing :) Thank you so much!

  15. I love that nightgown! It’s so pretty. I think it’s really important to invest in nice pajamas. I always feel better when I’m wearing something nice instead of just a t-shirt and knit shorts.

  16. My love language is Gifts, but my last boyfriend’s was Words of Affirmation (which ranks lowest for me). I used to schedule it into my phone: “Call BF and tell him you’re proud of him,” or “Send BF an email to let him know you can’t wait to hang out with him tonight.” It was totally out of my comfort zone, but it meant everything to him.

  17. I love being polite. Also, it saves having to feel terrible, terrible regret for having blown up at a poor mother who took your parking space during parent pick up at school. I mean, just in case you ever do that.

  18. Super great link list this week! I loved the article on Politeness and while I’d heard the Amy Poehler thing before, seeing the clip was fantastic. She’s such a rockstar.

  19. That painting is gorgeous!

  20. You sleep in socks too? I’ve met like 2 other people ever who sleep in socks and I get such flack for it!

  21. Great words to remember!
Have a nice weekend too :)

  22. Thank you for posting such a beautiful picture. I have been desperately searching for a picture to include on a mood board to give to my wedding planner. I am a law student with no time to plan my may wedding and am struggling to hand over my vision. This helps tremendously!

  23. I loved that article on politeness. And such a stunning image you chose! Have a great weekend, can’t wait to hear about your dinner and kayaking experience.

  24. It always put a smile on my face when I see the “15 links”–Thank you

Fabulous drawing–made my day. Would love to sleep in one of those as well (maybe a gift??) but it seems that I prefer “Quality time” as my love language and a gift is the least(I wouldn’t complain this time-lol).

The article on politeness..and the Roald Dahl quote…PRICELESS

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!! Enjoy your romantic dinner and kayaking tomorrow

  25. I just love the flower photos on your blog! Gorgeous…. (And since when was the NYT crossword not cool?)

  26. I’m loving the flower picture too! This weekend I’m celebrating my birthday.- Mostly I’m looking forward to cake and ice cream.

  27. I agree — that photo made me gasp! So beautiful!

Also, the quote from Roald Dahl just makes me so happy. It’s true!

And… I think the idea of a pretty something to sleep in is so nice, but when it all comes down to it, I just want a soft cotton t-shirt! :) Have a great weekend!

  28. What a gorgeous photo! That alone is making my day. :)
