Motherhood

Nostalgia

How many children are you planning to have? We are probably going to stick with two, so little Anton is most likely our last baby. He’s six months old, and watching him grow up is bittersweet. His milky smell, his round belly, his warm neck, his soft arms, his chunky thighs. I want to breathe him in, eat him up; motherhood is so tactile.

Sometimes I feel swept by a wave of nostalgic for these baby days, even as I’m experiencing them.

Anton, stay little, my little one!

Oh, my heart. So. In honor of all the soft and sweet children out there, we’re giving away two $200 gift cards from The Honest Company, which makes safe, natural, non-toxic diapers, wipes, bath care and green cleaning products. Our family uses Honest for all our household cleaning, bath and baby needs, and I am so glad to have a brand we trust! (And how sweet are their winter patterned diapers with tiny axes?)

Plus, earlier this winter, Anton was fussy and Toby was cranky, and I finally realized it was simply because their skin was dry and itchy. (Forehead smack.) All that dry indoor heat was drying out their skin. So we now have a winter survival kit: lotion, body oil, healing balm; sensitive diapers and wipes, and an all-mighty humidifier. (Alex now has a Liz-Lemon-esque love of humidifiers and we have one in every room:)

For a chance to win, please visit The Honest Company and leave a comment below. Two winners will be chosen tomorrow at random. Thank you so much! Update: The two winners have been emailed. Thanks for playing.

Bonus for all readers: The Honest Company is offering free shipping with a minimum purchase of $25 with CUPOFJOFREESHIP for the next two weeks. For the first purchase only.

P.S. A winter challenge, and would you ever decide NOT to have kids?

P.P.S. Feeling nostalgic for Toby.

  7. Hi Joanna. I’ve been following your blog for years. It’s my absolute favourite. However, I sometimes feel like a complete failure when I read your posts about family and work life. I’m 30. I have a great education but no job, no boyfriend, and no children. In your posts it sometimes seems that all of these things are a given.

As you do have a family and a job, naturally they are a part of your blog. But, in addition to your wonderful posts on family and work life, I would love some posts for those of us who haven’t just arrived there yet.

  8. I have been itching to try some Honest Co. products on my two littles (2 1/2 years and 7 months)

  9. tt says...

We love Honest too! especially their sunscreen and bubble bath for our toddler.

  10. Having my first baby this Summer. I need help!!!! But, I can’t wait just the same.

  13. I’m a huge fan of Honest products for myself and we are expecting a little one in May so I look forward to expanding the number of products I use. Here is to life in NYC with little ones.

  14. We’re expecting our first and it’s great to hear everyone recommend these products!

  15. I have found so many uses for the healing balm it’s not even funny. Right now it is saving my poor chapped nostrils from this never ending cold. Ugh.
Would love to try more Honest products!

  16. I adore their diaper prints!

  17. The name says it all – Honest! It’s wonderful to have a healthy option when buying for my grandchildren (and you know I will!) – a one year old baby girl and a second little girl due in one week! It makes spoiling them all the more acceptable – and has a grandmother’s seal of approval!

  18. I’d love to try the Face & Body Lotion and the little Dish Brush is adorable.

  19. Just announced my pregnancy this week! I’d love to win some fun products to start everything out on the right foot.

  20. What lovely pictures.
I have an almost-8 month old (what? how? when???) and feel exactly the same way. In fact nostalgia was how I described our first few weeks with her as well….I remember feeling like I *missed* her even while holding her and cuddling her and taking in all of her lovely babyness.

Also love love love Honest Company products! Its expensive to ship to Canada though so I could really really use a giftcard.

Love your blog! I check it very regularly. Keep up the great work!

  32. Have never tried the Honest Company, but would love to on our new little bundle of Boy-joy coming this April!!

  33. Jo, I know this is late, but can you tell/show us what kind of humidifiers you go for? I too have a Liz Lemon-esque appreciation for appropriate air moisture content, but most American humidifiers are so ugly and annoying that I can’t convince myself to spend money on them.

The coolest humidifiers are almost all Japanese. I so regret not buying one when we were there in 2009! When we go back I’m pulling the trigger. I even have a Pinterest board of them. I’d love to geek out about what you’ve got and what you do and don’t like!

  34. I love the diapers and wipes!!

  35. Wow! Love the diapers!!
