Great Wallpaper for Children

13 Wallpapers for Kids

For my first 15 years in New York City, I rented apartments — and always secretly daydreamed about plastering the white rooms with wallpaper. Now that we have our own place, it’s exciting to actually consider getting some. Do you have any wallpaper you love? Here are a few beautiful patterns for kid’s rooms….

13 Great Wallpapers for Kids

Trapeze for the win. Can’t wait to see your new place all done up!

  5. These are wonderful! I’m crazy for wooden villages.

  6. Jillian says...

I want the Wooden Village in my own room!

  7. My cousin, also named Joanna, has the blue bird wallpaper (the one with the bicycle in the picture) on the ceiling of her son’s nursery. It’s GORGEOUS. The whole room looks magical because of it.

Love wallpaper! We have wallpaper in our master bedroom, and all of the bathrooms! We even used the extra from one room and applied it in a linen closet- such a fun surprise when you open the door. I’m due with #3 (a girl after 2 boys) and just wallpapered one wall. To control costs we did one wall and we ordered it from Etsy. We were able to apply it ourself because it is peel and stick.

  9. Loesie says...

Studio Ditte! Love the rocket wallpaper! And the Cars! Birdhouse wallpaper!

I’m sure it’s great for your boys!

After having scraped two layers of the old-fashioned paper wallpaper applied with paste from our walls and ceilings, I do not care for wallpaper in my house. I know the new types are easy to apply and remove, but I will stick with paint. All the wallpapers are cute, but I like the strawberries the best, because I like anything with a strawberry motif. These wallpapers would actually be cute designs for fabric.

When we re-did our powder room we almost put the Aviary paper in. We ended up going with Flavor Paper’s Cherry Forever in black and white, but I do love the Aviary paper in black and white. I love the Clovers paper too.

  12. I want them all!!!

  13. These wallpapers are so beautiful!

  14. Oh, I love a good wallpaper! It can totally transform a room. I designed several for a wallpaper company and the best part is that they are removable. For commitment-phobes like myself, I love that they can be swapped out. Here’s the link if you’re interested:

PS the dinosaur paper was a collaboration with my 6 year old son. He did all of the tracings and I helped finish them off. I think I love that one best. 😊

I am expecting and ordered nursery wallpaper from littlehands.com. They’re based in Portugal and you have to measure yourself and order custom sizes, but the wallpapers are gorgeous. I am so happy with the quality. We ordered a mural that looks like a map of the world with hot air balloons.

      that sounds beautiful!

Growing up, we had two kid bedrooms for three of us: there was the baby room and the little kid room. The baby room had this sweet white/cream wallpaper with all over little blue stars, and the toddler room had this gorgeous cream wallpaper with tiny windows. Each window was probably an inch or two tall, and showed the same imaginary view during four seasons. The seasons were randomly arranged on the paper. If only those weren’t 35 year old wallpaper patterns! Incidentally, one of my siblings is expecting the first baby of the next generation, and my mom was *just* telling me how much she loved those rooms, and how proud she still is that they were age-appropriate without being too cute, that they aged well as we got older, and most importantly for her that they were gender neutral. (My mom knows what’s up.)

  17. I love birds picture, look so unique and creative.

For something fun and bright for kids, I love the Mosaic Classic wallpaper by Bien Fait – it has been a fave for years!

  19. We have the beautiful seascape wallpaper by Abigail Edwards in our toddler’s room, and I swoon every time I walk in. (See it on her Instagram here: https://instagram.com/p/BIsYA96AWdb/) It’s so special but also not too busy. I find it calming, and quite honestly, I’d love it in more rooms of our house. Wallpaper always felt so off limits to me — too permanent or too expensive, perhaps? But I think if you find something that really makes you happy, it is just like art and worth investing in.

    • That wallpaper is so calming! Love your Instagram feed too :-)

Having recently stripped just a small section of wallpaper off the dining room walls in our new home, I have to say NEVER AGAIN. Unless wallpaper is now way less painful to remove…the memories still haunt me.

  21. Daynna says...

Love these! When will we get to see your new place? I’m actually so surprised that you haven’t already done a reveal!

Not to be intrusive or anything! Hope it doesn’t come across as such. It’s just that youve always shown us your home before once you’ve moved and decorated and I’m just certain that I can’t be the only one dying to see how you’ve done your very own place! You guys have such unique, beautiful style and we love the little peek you afford us readers into your lovely home. Fingers crossed you won’t keep this one all to yourselves!!

    • I’m dying to see it too!!!

    • Lisa says...

I believe I remember Joanna commenting, a few weeks ago either here or on one of her instagram posts, that they were waiting for some light fixtures to arrive before doing a home tour :)

    • Joanna Goddard says...

yes, that’s exactly right! :) we took forever figuring out a light fixture for the living room, and finally ordered it, and it’s going to take a month or two. then we’re all set!!! can’t wait to share. thank you so much for the sweet comments.

  22. I love so many of these!! I am a huge fan of Jenny Komenda’s ceiling wallpaper, the bird and clouds one. The other whimsical scenes are darling as well. I would love to wallpaper at least one part of my apartment (or three ;) if we weren’t renting and could swing the cost. I do think often about papering a small hallway with removable renter’s wallpaper.

    • And I have to say….these are all lovely but the trapeze paper has to be the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. So fun!!

  23. Victoria says...

I love how calming number 8 is!

  24. ooooh, i love those lemons! would actually be pretty awesome in a bathroom.

  26. Slash great wallpapers for young-hearted adults! :) I love these prints.

  27. Brianna says...

Yes to wallpaper! I can’t wait to have my own place so I can wallpaper some walls.

  28. Lily says...

Hey Jo! Give us a home tour of your new house! We’re dying to get a peek :)

  29. Cyn says...

The house I grew up in had the craziest wallpaper in the kitchen. That kitchen was the true heart of our home and the warmest most wonderful place. Right before my parents sold their home, I snuck in and cut a piece of the wallpaper to save. I have it in a little frame and it still makes me feel warm and cozy.

    • Maggie says...

      This is awesome.

    • Escondista says...

I love that story! So sweet!

  30. Olivia's Mum says...

i love wildthing for various reasons
1 my daughter is called Olivia
2 she is mixed english/motswana baby living in Englad if i can have that for her room it will be a good reminder of part of her

  31. Joanna! When are we gonna get the deets on your new place? I remember reading your post about it right after my daughter was born in September and now she’s 5 months old! Too long to make us wait, haha! ;)

  32. Kate says...

My parents finally remodeled and stripped all of the fun old wallpaper from my and my brother’s childhood rooms and while I love and embrace change, it’s a bit sad to not have it on the walls anymore!

  33. t says...

beautiful, beautiful papers. i have to say though when i was a child i had wallpaper in my bedroom in a floral design and at night in the dark when shadows danced i thought bugs were crawling all over my walls and i was terrified.
