Fall Clothes Under $50

Fall Clothes Under $50

Hope you had a great long weekend! It’s finally starting to feel like fall, which is my favorite season for clothes (wool sweaters, high-waisted jeans, sneakers). If you’re hoping to spruce up your wardrobe, here are a few pretty pieces under $50…

Thoughts? Which would you wear?

(Top sweater from Zara — I’m also loving the dark red lipstick paired with a high ponytail!)

I face the same fashion quandary every year… Clothing sites (take JCREW for example) or fashion blogs tend to show really cute outfits for autumn/winter. However, cute dresses and skirts tend to be shown on bare legged women. I live on Cape Cod, and come January, this is simply not possible unless I have a death wish. I’d love a style posting on cute outfits for winter that take into account the reality of winter climates and the fact that most days we’ll be wearing boots and tights. I need inspiration, especially for the office!!

I’ve just ordered the Off the shoulder dress, cannot wait for it to arriver. Can you do a post how to wear ordinary clothes during pregnancy. We’re expecting our first baby and I’m soooo lost getting dressed. Thanks :)

  3. Tons of good choices, long sleeved tops and mules are at the top of my list!

Joanna, loving the red lipstick too! Any idea what colour is that?

Just a heads up (and to echo another commenter) that Zara steals designs from small independent artists. You can see more information about it here: http://www.shoparttheft.com/

I’ve chosen not to shop at Zara anymore and support smaller businesses instead. To each their own, but I wanted to spread the word to anyone who may not be informed.

Thank you for this. I am definitely boycotting Zara for their blatant theft of designs from artists.

  6. I so love the skirt and the white sneakers, perfect for fall. I’m in the process of revamping my closet for the change of season, so really excited to get started on my new collection!

Thanks so much for including a plus size option!!

  8. Kate says...

Thanks for including a plus size :)

  9. Alex says...

I would love to see a piece on Slow Fashion on Cup of Jo. Stores like Zady are making pieces that (yes, are a little more pricey) but are meant to last a lifetime, don’t follow any of the moment trends, and won’t harm our planet like some of the dyes and chemicals used in a lot of fast fashion will. Pretty please!

  10. Cynthia says...

Thank you for showing some cute and affordable clothes and accessories, including plus-size items.

  11. Theresa R says...

Faux leather bags! Yay, you, Jo!!!! I like them. Priced right to boot.

  12. Susan K says...

Hey – some great items – diversity in sizing and price. Something for everyone. Thanks.

  13. Carmen B says...

Oh, thanks so much for including a plus sized item.
    That printed dress is darling.

  14. Bonnie says...

I have the Superga for Target sneakers in navy and love them!

  15. Laura C. says...

Fall?, which fall? We are having 105 F (today 109 F) here!! I want all of thay clothes AND the right weather to wear them! (Sigh!)
    Xoxo

Wanted to echo a few other posters – it is SO APPRECIATED to see a popular & beloved blog such as your list a plus-size piece of apparel in a “fun new seasonal clothing” piece! Normally I fall in love with a listed garment only to find that it’s impossible for me to wear. Representation feels really, really good. Thank you!

  17. Great selections! Fall is my absolute favorite season for clothing! I love the bomber jacket the most, but I have such a jacket obsession its crazy. I have a whole section of my closet dedicated to various jackets, and it’s my favorite when the temps dip down low enough that I can bring them out!!

  18. Paula says...

Just an FYI – Zara steals designs from independent artists. I would never buy from them.

  19. I own those exact Superga sneakers and they are the best, the low cut is really cute and they are so comfortable. The only issue is they are hard to find socks that don’t show because of the unique cut.
I’m also loving that shift dress and it’s so cheap! Black dress and tights are kind of my uniform in the winter. Thanks for inspiration.

  20. Rebecca says...

I got a pair of navy Supergas from Target this summer – I was going to tour England and wanted something slightly more chic than my typical Converse, but still made for walking (and walking and walking…). They were perfect. Super comfy and cute. Two thumbs up!

  21. Sara says...

You are my hero! Low cost and for all body types. Thank you.

    • Celeste says...

Yeah! loved the inclusion of plus-size options. Round of applause for Jo and friends!

    • Sara says...

I almost fell out of my chair when I saw a plus-sized item on this list. THANK YOU!!

  22. cooper says...

Just ordered that beautiful black shift! Old Navy is my go-to for simple dresses, and I’ve found the shift style to be super flattering!

    • Joanna Goddard says...

great!! i hope you like it!

  23. The off-the-shoulder dress is so sweet! I’m trying to avoid fast fashion, and it’s a big challenge! (Resisting all that looks lovely.) I’ll be hitting the consignment boutiques for a couple of cozy sweaters and a dress for autumn in the near future.

Emily, I’m trying to avoid fast fashion, too, and focus instead on brands that are more environmentally focused and concerned for the fair treatment of their employees. It can be challenging to check all the labels and research different compabies, but I think it’s important to consider where our clothes one from, just like we do with our food. I’ve found that Reading My Tea Leaves has some good ethical fashion posts, but many of the pieces are often out of my budget. I’d love to see a roundup here on Cup of Jo if you think that would interest your readers, Joanna! I really love all the pieces you’ve featured here, but not that they’re made in China.

  24. Jenna says...

I just have to say I love your blog so much. I sometimes go weeks without reading it and then pull it up and the first post is perfect for me (I felt that way about the “where do you get your news” piece!). You have curated such a thoughtful and FUN space, a perfect balance. You all do GREAT work! Thank you!

    • Joanna Goddard says...

thank you so much, jenna! you’re so sweet!

  25. Thank you so much for posting affordable styles! I love all your recommendations!

  26. Made me laugh to see a striped shirt. If there is one thing I know, Jo will have stripes!

    • Joanna Goddard says...

      hahaha busted.

  27. Marissa says...

Love that sweater, but trying to support Zara right now unfortunately.

  28. Heather says...

THANK YOU so much for posting something available in a plus size that’s cute AND affordable. <3

  29. Linds says...

Finally more affordable pieces! The usual posts are beautiful, but thanks for thinking of those of us on a budget from time to time. :)

  30. I love it all but the cream sweater looks especially cozy…I can’t wait for fall weather!

  31. Natalie Brennan says...

Great picks! And I appreciate the plus size model inclusion.

  32. Lena says...

Love the everyday bag! The other colors are so nice as well, I especially like “ecru.”
