Four Fun Things

april-bloomfield-eating

Chef April Bloomfield on how to earn your stars at work. “There was a time when a very famous Australian chef came to Kensington Place. It’s customary to come in and shake hands with the other chefs. I reached out my hand, and he actually just walked past and didn’t shake my hand. It made me look at him and think, I’m going to be better than you one day.”

Four Fun Things

My friend Abbey, who is a genius with flowers, once told me that the secret to simple arrangements is a vase with a small neck. Even a single bloom will look beautiful, versus sparse or wilted.

Anxiety Land Theme Park

Featured attractions at Anxiety Land Theme Park, including the Regular Elevator: “Enter this normal, functioning elevator… if you dare. Watch with terror as the metal doors creak to a close. As you ascend at a low speed, observe the inspection chart on the wall. It’s written in faded pencil, so there’s no way to know for certain that it’s up to code! Sneak a look at the people around you. They will be your entire world if you get stuck in here and are, for some reason, never rescued. There’s no way to escape Regular Elevator!! Find yourself seized with fear when you reach your floor and… the doors don’t open right away. That’s right — there’s a three-second delay.”

I just bought those divine earrings, thank you SO much for the recommendation.

  2. Ann says...

On behalf of Australians my apologies to April. What appalling behaviour by that Australian chef. She didn’t have anything more to prove. She was ALREADY better than him.

  3. Bianca says...

The model is Natalia Castellar! This shoot was amazing.

  4. Ooh I love that interview with April Bloomfield and am now completely intrigued to know who that rude/chauvinist Aussie chef is? I’m embarrassed someone from my country would behave so badly…

  5. Lynn says...

I love love love April Bloomfield. Her “Mind of Chef” episodes are some of my favorites.

And that last picture with the model and the earrings? Perfect lipstick color.

  6. Cynthia says...

The earrings are made in a studio in Richmond, Va. where I live!

    Lol-ed at the anxiety park!

  11. Lauren says...

I love small necked vases. The problem is cleaning them! Sometimes vase water can get gunky and all you can do is put in really hot water and soap and shake it around. Just a warning if you’re looking at clear glass ones- they might stay a little murky

  12. Lauren E. says...

That Anxiety Land Amusement Park is the funniest thing I’ve read in a long time. I thought I was the only one who read the elevator inspection chart!

  13. I love the suggestion for the vase! I have never considered a vase with a small neck, but it’s brilliant! And I love the terra-cotta look of the one pictured!
