Pretty Pottery

These days, pottery feels cooler than ever — getting painted, gilded, even marbleized. Clay hasn’t looked this good since Ghost. Here are 12 we like…

Thoughts? Any others you like?

P.S. 16 jollifiers to make you smile and teeny gold earrings.

Does anyone know where the vase in Seth Smoot’s photo is from? I’d love to know!

I LOVE everything about this post!!! I’m going to be a crazy vase lady when I grow old, as opposed to cats.

    Beautiful, quirky stuff.

LOVE the colors on that circle planter.

I *love* ceramics. This is a beautiful roundup. It reminds me of a glass artist who I knew when I liked in the Bay Area. You might like her stuff: http://www.jesswainer.com/pages/Glass.html

    Really pretty picks!

I spent an indefensible amount of time gazing at the collection of stoneware on http://www.canvashomestore.com the other day thanks to the DALs post about it.

  9. I love how starting the day with coffee in a handmade mug is a little celebration of beauty in the everyday moments.

  10. Thank you so much for featuring the amazing BDB Ring Cones that we carry at MEUS. I personally have a soft spot for ceramics so I always make sure that the shop is stocked with my recent faves! Thanks again Jo! xx (PS. Here are other ring cones by BDB that we just got in this week http://meusshop.com/products/bdb-midi-ring-cone)

Yes to this! I have a collection of their mugs and they are absolutely beautiful! Love that they color all of their own clay too!

Being from California, I’m partial to Heath ceramics. Everything they make, from their bud vases to their mugs, are so beautiful and simple.

    • Suzanne says...

      I completely agree about Heath!

Those hand dishes are SO sweet and cool… but be warned, they are SMALL. I was surprised when mine arrived notably smaller than the estimated measurements listed on the site. It can hold, like, two rings. So if you want to spend 40 bucks for a two-ring holder, you found the right one.

    • Lynn! Ivy here (I make the hands!) I’m so sorry you were unhappy with the size! I make each one by hand – no molds or cut outs – so sometimes they don’t always come out exactly the size that’s listed! And even then they still are meant for small delicate jewelry, a crystal or two or a stick of palo santo! But If you’d like I’d love to send you one of the ones that ended up slightly larger, please email me at iiivvvyyyw@gmail.com! Want to make sure you’re happy! Xx

    these are gorgeous! Great post.

    • Melissa Maya Pottery on Etsy is the business!

  14. Jo, you have no idea how much seeing my white and gold bud vase on your site has made my night! Schoolhouse Electric does sell them, but would you consider linking to my individual website instead of the Schoolhouse Electric so your readers can see the rest of my work too? No worries if not – just thought I would ask.

      Of course, thank you!

Lovely! I’m an amatuer ceramics artist and I love it. Such a soothing and fun art form.

  16. Alice Quin says...

  17. Obsessed with the circle planter! Such a cute gift for a hostess of the next shower I have to go to!

  18. Great post! I love ceramics and I’m always looking for new ones for gifts!

  19. Emily says...

So excited you featured something from Fern in Cincinnati! Hometown love!

  20. We have that bathing suit pot (the nude version) and love it! Such a conversation starter when we have people over :)

  21. So…what if I like the vase in the top photo most, and it doesn’t appear below with a link?

Yours is beautiful, but I think Iris means the blue one in Seth Smoot’s photo. I’m also curious.
